- Willys Jeep changing the bowl gear on a Warn overdrive! One of the coolest features of the Dana 18 transfercase is the ability to easily bolt on an overdrive. An overdrive splits your gears giving you more top end speed and greater control of your engine rpm. There are several brands of overdrives for Willys Jeeps but I am using a Warn unit. The same Warn that makes the legendary 8274 winches also made overdrives back in the day. I have to change out the bowl gear to match my Teraflex 3.15:1 Low Gears I installed in the previous video. This is an excellent, and easy bolt on upgrade for any cj2a, cj3a, CJ3B, or cj5!

I have a 1948 Willys Overland T-4 pickup truck. I've owned it since 1986. I have a Warn OD unit in it and it makes the 63hp L4-134 much more flexible. I live in the mountains of Nevada and overdriving 2nd. gear climbing steep mountain roads keeps the engine from lugging or screaming.

Good morning there buddy thanks for the informative video.I will be buying an overdrive and a bunch of stuff from herm for my 69cj5 . I can’t wait to get it all together. ALH, sm465, Dana 18, o/d 4.11 gears and a locker up front. Gonna be awesome for pulling a log arch recovering logs from the forest!!

Bought my OD new from AA. But i couldn't thread on that retainer nut to the trans main shaft. So i took my SM465, dana 18, and OD to the shop that rebuilt and modified the 465. Turns our that AA installed a metric nut instead of an SAE nut. Anyway it's all together now.
Now I’m wishing I would have checked that before I put it all together! Small details like that can really slow down a build! Glad you got it straightened out!

Another well done video. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Borg- Warner sell this overdrive to Advanced Adapters and isn't this being sold as a Saturn Overdrive? My 50 Willys Pickup has a Saturn Unit in it from Kaiser- Willys parts, now I am wondering if its the same. Again, well done indeed, Thanks
Thank you! I think Advanced Adapters bought the rights from warn maybe in the 90’s and started producing the Saturn drives but don’t quote me on that haha

There pretty slick for a bolt on part! Pulling parts at the junkyard the other day, it kept me awake that night for sure 😂

Wasn't stuff made well back then....any idea what years these o/d came out....I have a British 1975 Landrover with a simular design gearbox.....in 1975 an o/d became available made here in the UK by Fairy Engineering.
Was wondering if these units predate my 1975 unit....sort of similar.

That’s cool to hear land rovers also had bolt on overdrives! If I had to guess probably from the 60’s. These are later units the black label warns are the ones everyone collects and bring crazy money! Thank you!
@@SevenBarSalvage Thanks for getting back to me....I suspect then that Fairy Engineering here in England got the idea of an over drive for the old Series Landrover from the unit you have....
Certainly made the landrover much easier to live with with its low geared 4 speed box.
