Great video, especially resonated with the way different life stages inform our enjoyment of games! While I'm unlikely to give Dread Delusion a shot, as it's not really my cup of tea (and i got no time lol), the video was captivating from start to finish, so props on all fronts! Best of luck with your surely soon-to-be burgeoning channel!

Thank you, I'm still trying to find my own flow, but I really liked the way this one turned out.
I would jokingly say something about having luck with your own channel, but it's already quite burgeoning, and your videos are great, so just keep it up I suppose? I'm enjoying your Slave Zero review right now and look forward to more of your stuff.

5:30 spot on, there are some Vvardenfell graphical inspirations, but the grimdark nature of the factions, stories, and world at large is very much 40k-esque. I really enjoy the parallels between the Adeptus Mechanicus of 40k and the Clockwork Kingdom in Dread Delusion, especially with the way the Clockwork King speaks. I also appreciated your first few minutes of a prologue, the comparisons to Morrowind directly do just set it up for failure more often than not, Dread Delusion is just a standalone game that's great in its own right.

I'm ashamed to admit I don't have as much time in 40k as I would like, so I couldn't draw the comparison with the clockwork king, but I love the flavor of the setting and I really enjoyed it throughout DD. I didn't hear anyone talking about it in their 2024 roundups and game awards so I hope more people will give it a chance. Thanks for checking out the video.

Okay you sold me on this, seems really good! And great video as always (really wholesome hearing that little snippet about your dad being a cool guy)

Well that's just too much pressure, I'd hate to think someone bought a game they didn't like because of one of my videos. Personally, what I would never, ever do, is pirate everything I'm interested in and then know for sure if I want to buy it.
And thanks, I liked the way this one turned out a lot. Hopefully the next one can stay around that level of quality but it's looking like it will be a lot longer. Maybe it'll bomb and I can go back to shorter videos.

I'm glad it found you. I generally try to at least warn about spoilers for those who care, but this one is especially worth experiencing for yourself.
Good luck with your game Dev btw, I'm about two years in to a five hour intro course on it myself lol.

Damn, the algorithm really earned its keep today. Your approach feels really fresh, and thanks to this video I'm going to both sub to you, and pick up the game. Excited to see where you go from here!

I feel the same as you about the comparison of this game to Morrowind. I get the distinct feeling that people who say DD is "just like Morrowind" haven't actually played both games and just let the Mushroom vibes form their opinion.
On a related note: I've seen you stab that Scrib. Tell your legal department to expect a strongly worded letter in their inbox shortly.

    • @KalTheSkeleton
      @KalTheSkeleton  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

While I do think the devs must have taken a lot of inspiration from Morrowind, I think that is still only one of many places they drew from. I hope players haven't been going in to it with the expectation that it's a spiritual sequel though, they might be disappointed, and not be able to appreciate it for what it is.
Also, I cannot fathom what you mean. I have never met that scrib, and was in the Caribbean on holiday on the date in question. Whatever befell that vile creature could be no fault of mine, though I'm sure it was most deserved.

For me, the game that made me question whether a choice was good or bad has to be Disco Elysium. In my playthrough I got to the part where the main character is in a dream sequence and has a moment with their wife/living Saint figure from the game's lore. The scene has the wife leaving the main character for the last time, and I played through the dialogue tree where I tried to convince her to stay. The scene culminated in the dialogue choice where you choose to kiss her. A kiss as a desperate act of affection to hopefully convince her to come back. It required a skill check and it succeeded. But the game narrated a one sidded kiss and how the wife did not reciprocate. The game even went so far as to tell the player something along the lines of, "You succeeded, isn't this what you wanted?"
It's hard to explain the impact this scene had without explaining the whole game. But for me, in that moment, I felt like the whole story came crashing down on me. Like every piece of the puzzle finally came together. It's also a double edged sword as the scene spoke to me, as a player, that just because you succeed doesn't mean it's good. Which I feel is a trope of a lot of game, where skill checks you succeed at are always better or the right/morally good option.
Your channel looks great so far. I've only watched this and your Spyro related videos. But I want to watch your videos about games I'm not particularly interested in because of your thoughtful opinions. Keep up the great work!

Ohh that sounds deliciously emotionally devastating. I think I own Disco Elysium on three consoles now, and I've played it for maybe two hours before putting it on the "this game looks amazing but I don't have the mental bandwidth for it right now" pile. I have a tendency to replay a game like that to exhaustion because I want to see where all the dialogue paths go.
I'll resist the urge to go into a whole video script about it, but your comment reinforces that feeling because two of my favorite things in games are when they 1: don't revolve around the player, where npc's have their own lives and desires and 2: when you have a sort of meta-narrative going on with the game developers, like they anticipated what you would want to do, and accounted for it in the game.
Another game that strikes a similar chord, but is more visual novel than rpg, is Slay the Princess. I was a little put off by the visual style, and personally don't really care for VN's, but it's a nice change of pace and has some fun with tropes.
Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the channel, thanks for watching.

I wouldn't want to ever play Morrowind again, I'd rather try this out. It seems like this, at least, has a better indicator of hitting an enemy then that one.

I played through Morrowind again a couple years ago and even though like it because I played it a lot as a kid, I still couldn't blame anyone who didn't enjoy it. The hit chance system alone completely clashes with the expectations established by a first person action game, and I don't care that "it gets better as you level up".

Ha, that's a huge compliment, though it does make me worry that I might have leaned on the inspirations a little too much. Thank you, for your words, and for watching.
