Hello. Does he mean his father or other family members? I only ask because child labor was largely outlawed here by the early 1920s. They had men working at like 16, 17 by then, but 5 year olds, etc. were outlawed from working in the mines and breakers by around the time of World War One which ended in 1918. @@AnthraciteHorrorStories no it was him in 1942 at 5 years old his father was actually a coal miner and him and all his brother were breaker boys him being the youngest and yes it was outlawed your right but his father wasn’t a good man and a lot parents would bring phony documents making these children seem older and the people employing them would turn a blind eye making it seem as if they were small for there age knowing Damn well these were very small children so the laws weren’t enforced 🥺 these laws were in place but apparently not regulated at all because this went on for a while …….my patient went into great detail of what he has bin through and no child should be subjected to that smh .

Hello. Sorry to hear about your family member's death. No, they meant "fall of roof" or simply "roof fall" which just means a roof collapse in a mine tunnel/working chamber. I have plenty of videos on here of me exploring our local abandoned mines. You'll get an idea as to what these "cave-ins" look like underground. They're pretty terrifying. @@AnthraciteHorrorStories ahhh ok that makes sense! Thanks and you’re right, I couldn’t wrap my mind around a miner standing on top of a roof and then falling off. It just made no sense to me. But I didn’t know enough about those breakers. Oh that’s funny because yeah, I was picturing him falling off the top of the breaker. 🤣

@@kellymurphy6642 it's all good. The mining lingo can be tricky. Ya, the mine "roof" is the "top rock". Hahaha, ya, it definitely wasn't the breaker! A lot of people did die in the breakers too though unfortunately!

Most mines have been sealed off, some have eroded open or other ones have never been backfilled. Look through some of my exploration videos for an idea as to what is in our area!

@@AnthraciteHorrorStories I got like 10 of em I inherited from an uncle of mine he used these in the mines. Also, I may be exaggerating a bit but, not a far stretch. It was at least a days work but, the company gave you credits that you could only spend at their coal camps. From mingo county WV we’re steeped in union and mining culture.

I don't even tempt fate with my SUV on that flooded hellish road up top. Be careful in the winter up there. I almost went off the side of the mountain due to ice, wrecked my SUV pretty bad. Took me many days (alone) to get it finally down the mountain! DCNR couldn't believe I went up there with so much snow 😆! Used to always go up there with snow, now it's a fear I've unlocked.
