    Keep up the good work, Coal King!

    Anthracite was once Bituminous...

  • @AbandonedMines11
    @AbandonedMines11 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Interesting seeing the coal veins. Pretty thick! Doesn’t seem to be a lot of timbering in this mine. Is that common in mines back there? Cool video! 👍

    • @AnthraciteHorrorStories
      @AnthraciteHorrorStories  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is actually a really thin vein of coal, but then again it is Bituminous which is a whole different beast. I think they didn't timber too much because it was classic room & pillar mining. Where they robbed out, they gobbed it up. The gobbing then became load bearing. I'm telling you man, this was LOW! I couldn't stand in 99% of it, bending over almost touching my toes just to walk the main Gangway too!

      @AbandonedMines11 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AnthraciteHorrorStories Yeah, that sounds pretty low. We never usually have that problem in the mines out here. Usually you can stand upright in them pretty much the whole time. There may be some stretches of the drifts where you have to stoop over a little bit to avoid hitting your head, but nothing major. Having to constantly crouch, stoop, and crawl is really tiring! And if you forget your kneepads, it’s hell!

      @@AbandonedMines11 oh that does suck. That's good to hear about your mines. Most of the Anthracite ones are pretty big tbh. There's low vein mines in the Anthracite, but those gangways are usually large still.

    NICE! The Bituminous region starts about 10 miles from me. I sure rode around in a bunch of it over the years. I mentioned to you before that I have relatives that came from Bitumen, Pa. We would watch the guy run the drag line all day and when he was done we'd ride our motorcycles to the pit and just stare at that monsterous machine!

      That's cool. Ya, a dragline is an intriguing thing to watch work. Are they still mining coal up that way??

    you were in the track entry, were they took coal and some roof, then they drove rooms off that entry to the right and left where they only took the coal seam, they had to take coal and roof to get the mules and coal cars in and out!!!!!

    The coal thats all discolored, is that still useable? You’d suspect someone born n raised in Ohio would know that, but…

    • @AnthraciteHorrorStories
      @AnthraciteHorrorStories  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If there's stuff on it ya, pretty superficial. I'm sure even the A.M.D. looking stuff, etc. would burn off in a fire. The outside portion of the coal vein will sometimes oxidize too, but again, that's just superficial.
