This mine video is a remastered version of an earlier video that I uploaded a little while back. The prior editing software I had used caused the final video to have a pulsating like glitch throughout the video once played back. With that said, I decided to redo it, I added new clips, put in a ton of sound effects, etc. I hope you enjoy this one! I put a lot of time into making this. So if you can, please like & subscribe!
This mine like many others, has been destroyed. It is backfilled sadly. I tried to get a bat gate placed on this one, however, concrete was poured into it, thus ruining future wildlife habitats for say, bats, etc. With this said however, YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME POST A LOCATION, A PICTURE OF A MINE (BOTH UNSEALED OR EVEN BAT GATED ONES) OR GIVE DIRECTIONS TO ANYONE & I MEAN ANYONE. I will not post the mine operation name, the CITY where it is, I will not mention the COUNTY NOR will I post what particular Anthracite Coal Field this is in (ex. Northern or Southern, etc.) With this also said, I formerly explored abandoned mines, I no longer do, everything you see here is "past tense" with old clips. When I took these videos, I had no forethought to think they'd be on TH-cam, so if they don't meet your expectations, this may be why. I didn't plan on these being professional grade, as I am a photographer, not videographer. ALSO, NO ONE POST LOCATIONS OF THIS MINE (if it is recognized) OR ANY OTHER MINE. IF YOU KNOW OF ANOTHER MINE, PLEASE DO NOT POST IT ON HERE, CHANCES ARE I ALREADY HAVE SEEN IT TO BE HONEST! I will have to DELETE any comments mentioning locations or even if you ask for locations, these too will be deleted. Sorry for the drama, but there is ENDLESS drama that goes with this hobby. I can write a novel and produce a miniseries on the drama that comes from attempting to be a historian, crawling into a hole in the ground that is abandoned & sharing the history with those that want to learn. DISCLAIMER: Stay Out & Stay Alive!! As you can see from this video, abandoned mines are treacherous. I've worked with the Pa. DEP/Pa. Game Commission (civilian non-employee reporting dangerous mines) over the last 10 plus years to bat gate mines, backfill open vertical shafts that were threats to people & animals, etc.
STAY OUT & STAY ALIVE! I NO LONGER ACTIVELY EXPLORE ABANDONED ANTHRACITE COAL MINES. I HAVE NEARLY 2 DECADES OF EXPERIENCE AND AM TRAINED, HAVE OXYGEN, FLAME SAFETY LAMPS, MAPS, MEDICAL TRAINING FROM THE MILITARY, ETC. YOU CAN EASILY GET HURT OR KILLED IN OLD MINES! Black damp can kill you in mere moments & it is something you cannot smell or see, without training & proper equipment, you will succumb to this. No locations will be given or discussed anywhere on my channel; I will delete them if comments as such arise. I always carried a closed-circuit oxygen self-rescuing apparatus that miners carry. Always a had a ridiculous number of batteries & multiples of flashlights themselves, glow sticks, hard hat, tourniquet, maps of the specific mine, a safety party on standby should I not come out at a predetermined time, etc. I kept my explorations as professional as one possibly could. I also had an extensive knowledge as to how & why miners did what they did underground. I knew what could possibly happen to the roof/walls before it happened in a sense. My geology knowledge was something I worked hard at & most people could miss what I often saw thus resulting in collapses, etc. SO PLEASE STAY OUT & STAY ALIVE!

Many thanks! I appreciate it! Yes, there is a presence in most of these mines...you have to wonder if there are ghosts down there. I'd say yes. It's pretty cool when you stop and take it all in, the mine will reveal its secrets to you in a sense.

Great looking footage of this mine. Truly giving it the preservation it deserves. I’ve never seen the magazines in any of the videos for this one. Just the JFK paper and Dick Tracy comic.

Was the electric in the mine 25 or 60 cycle? Just curious. I know a lot of older electrical installations used 25 cycle and many mines/ colleries had their own power plant to generate their own electricity. Fuel and water were obviously close by. Towards the end of mining I suspect that having a power plant on site was a necessity if using 25 cycle electric because the standard was becoming 60 cycle, unless there were rotary concerters on site to change it over - sorry for the rambling, just curious.
Hello. I'm terribly sorry, but I'm not well versed in electrical. That's like space age stuff to me. Hahaha. I'm pretty sure however that they had their own electricity produced from the powerhouse that fed electricity to the coal breaker, etc. The breaker was nearby to this mine, so I'd imagine they burned their own coal that they mined and produced their own electricity. The Huber Colliery did this in Ashley, etc. Maybe someone else will see this and know/comment. Appreciate you watching this and commenting though.
Great stuff! I've seen the footage that Phil did of this mine a while back. Completely amazes me how they could leave this stuff down there? Such a shame to see that stuff being lost to time. Do you know who owns the rights to the property where this is located? I'd imagine it's city folks that could really care less about what a treasure trove they have down there? It could easily be the next #9 Lansford type tour! How long did it take you to get to the workshops, and mechanical rooms from the entrance?
Thank you. I know, nuts how they left everything down there man. All the mines did that. They just walked away, lol. It is a shame. I can't talk about anything concerning any locations unfortunately. I'm sorry, I really am. Lots of drama comes from it. This could have been the best tour ever to be honest. It's so much bigger in person, it's overwhelming to be honest. So to go down the manway, intersect the slope and then go down the bottom of the slope, it takes a good 25-30 minutes or more if you're non-stop moving. From the bottom of the slope to the hoist room is about 15-20 minutes of walking (if you're going slow). So from the entrance to the hoist, it's about 45 minutes. The workshop is right down from the hoist. A true labyrinth down there though, multiple levels, vertical air shafts, etc. One of the cooler mines out there for sure. The slope is steep, so climbing out is a workout, hah.
I'm totally with you as far as not mentioning the locations of these places for the sake of liability but I was just curious if you knew who the property owners were? I wonder if they honestly gave a shit about anything down there? I grew up with a mechanical background and have spent my entire life working with machinery. My heart literally hurts seeing that stuff left to decompose. So mush land gets bought up by investment companies and such. It would be truly heartbreaking to think of that stuff being lost and not loved by someone. You and I talked last week about Bitumen Pa. By the way, I really liked the videos you did up on Laurel Run. Have you ever been in Breaker Brewing Co.? I want to try that place! @@Davewilliamson5w yes sir! I have been there (years ago now). I think it was an old nun convent back in the day before a brewery? lol. Ya, it sucks that this stuff is entombed down there. Trust me, there's a lot more epic stuff like this all over the state that has the same fate. The coal mines just wrote it all off once they declared bankruptcy.
Holy shit! A convent? LOL! My Mom went to Catholic school and told me stories about being beaten with rulers! Hey I'll drink the beer! I just don't want any nuns hitting me on my hands with a ruler. We call our daughter a nun too btw, long story....lol. There are cool nuns, some horrifying ones for sure too. I went to Catholic school for only 2 years in high school. I volunteered to go back to Wilkes-Barre Area after dealing with those odd fellow students, hahaha.

What level of the mine is that area with the hospital here? I was looking at it on mine maps. I remember we walked a good long ways down to get to it but the map was sort of confusing. I was thinking the third level? Or maybe even 5th?

Do you test the darkness sometimes,like,just imagining How the F the men and boys did all this work without easy light like we can carry on us? The silence must be total as the dark.Id get spooked in -2 seconds,but im a girl,i imagine things,i babble,...no silence around me!!
It's all good. Yes, we always would have moments of total darkness. Changing light batteries, etc. It's not that bad if you plan for the darkness, if it comes unexpectedly, then it's an issue. Hahaha. How they did it back in the day is beyond me. Oil wick lamps really gave off little light. Poor guys.

Agreed, even the wire rope is fine for the most part. Lol. That would make a hell of a yard decoration, wouldn't it? I wonder what the tonnage is on that thing.

I Do Not like those sound effects At All. They feel entirely intrusive, almost rude since they’re clearly not accurate. I know ur tryin different stuff hopin to improve the channel, trust me this ain’t helping. Having u describe what we were seeing was THE BEST👍🏼 No narrative blocking our view, hearing the reverence in ur voice, ur footsteps, water tricking…. Thats all u need dude. It was already perfection. The first vid u did in here was hella more respectful. Just sayin… Ur channel is growing. Tryna improve whats already great is just silly🫵🏽🫶🏽🌹
I have to disagree with you on the accuracy. Buzzers are accurate, sounds of trains going over the rail is accurate, the steel drums for the wire rope would have been accurate, the offices and other places had phones, hoists were steam powered initially, the electricity sounds is well....electric. As for respect and the mines, you've lost me, lol.

@@AnthraciteHorrorStories ok I’ll agree on buzzer sounds bein accurate. And rail sounds, but only to the extent of trains running on tracks above ground. But hearing buzzer sounds over n over while viewing an abandoned mine isn’t natural, and I can’t begin to imagine ore carts operating inside a mine might sound like anything on above ground tracks. And u know nobody made those sounds reading comics or news down there. Dude I Love ur channel, please don’t think I’m in any way tryna insult u. It’s more constructive criticism hoping for ur continued success. It was the solemnity of the original video that referred to respect. I’m old so what can I say
@@bobwoww8384 It's all good, as for the comics and newspaper, I was just trying to convey what was on the paper. Like my Great Uncle in the Congo. The mine cars were 5 ton coal cars each, they'd be rocking and rolling down there. It'd be nearly deafening.
