Tasty treats along the Camino #travel #Camino #foodies #caminodesantiago
Eating along the Camino is perhaps the best part of the journey. It allows us to savor the local produce and learn about the community in a more intimate setting. In this video, I discuss where and how we eat along the Portuguese and Norte Caminos. And if you enjoyed this video, please consider buying me a coffee or wine. The link is below. Thank you again.

The Camino is calling and we must heed her call. Therefore, we are heading back to the Camino Portuguese in May 2025. Unlike in 2019 when we did one and a half days along the coast before moving to the Central route, this time we will stay on the Coastal route the entire time. As always, I'll be posting before and during the adventure. Please be sure to subscribe so that you don't miss a thing....

After one month as a camp host I’ve learned a great deal. First, be sure to start the van periodically. If you don’t, the battery dies. Second, bugs love me. I have lots of bites. But most of all, I’ve met wonderful people and have been able to connect with nature. Let me know if you have any questions.

    2. From Pontevedra I strongly recommend to walk to the very beautiful village Combarro (we stayed in Hotel Xeito, but there might be better ones). Either stay in Combarro or directly climb up to the Monastery of Armenteira where you should try to get a room for the night. Book far ahead over their website even if it says that no reservation is possible. Avoid the weekend if possible because then it's very crowded. Next day is the most spectacular day of the whole trip - but don't walk it on a weekend and also rainy weather makes it rather difficult. In case of rain or wet trail walk on the less beautiful but safer left side of the creek. The trail down from the Armenteira Monastery is called "Ruta da pedra e da auga". 6 km full of beautiful nature along a creek with old mills and little waterfalls. The day ends in Vilanova de Arousa. Next day take an exciting 90 minute boat trip to Pontesecures. Book boat ticket ahead. This boat ride is accepted for the Compostela. Many greetings from Germany, Lisa

Hi Anita, Great news!! For some reason I can't post my long comment. I try to split it. I walked the coastal route twice (last in April/May) and have two recommendations for you. 1. Stay two nights in Vigo and on day 2 take a day trip to the most beautiful Cies islands. Boat ticket to be booked ahead, e.g. at Mardeons website. Hotel "Ciudad de Vigo" is excellent and close to the harbour and also close to the Camino.

All good points. Re guide books, because a lot of/ most people follow the start and finish locations it puts a lot of pressure on the accomadation there. A point I would add is this is not a wilderness trail. The idea of walking from village to village to town etc. is a very different experience.

I'm curious to know how you found the actual route from Iran to San Sabastian? I'm on the Camino del Norte right now, about 15 days in. I couldnt find ANY route markers from Irun so ended up walking on the road all the way. It was a disaster! Farmers fields, they were shouting at me. Angry dogs, crazy steep banks through stinging nettles, just an awful first day! 😂 All because I couldn't find the signs. But, 2 weeks in and there is still very very poor signage. Miles apart from the Frances, loved that one! Thanks for sharing your experiences, loved the video. 😊

The first day was odd. Lots of pavement, although I expected that, but no other pilgrims. I’d go through a village an no one said Buen Camino. At the end of the day I felt lost and discouraged. Thankfully, a woman did wish me Buen Camino as I left town the next day. I did get lost a few times. Watch my videos. Look out for the wild boars coming out of the corn fields!!!! It was a tough journey but so worth it in the end. Buen Camino.

great comments Anita! I found it funny that people are paper chasers rather than enjoying the journey. Last year I too did the Norte abd enjoyed your vlog. (even left comments haha) . I recommeded your videos especially the equipment one on a forum ( and others took up your suggestions esp the oversized rain coat). Next year I am planning another camino/s. This will entail the first week of the Norte (as it is the best), 5 days on the San Salvador and the Primativo to Lugo. After that Santiago to Fisterra. So, no I won't get a piece of paper but will slow down and enjoy it more. I discovered that rushing through a Camino is not the way but a process.

Wow! I am planning to do camino del norte in September. I am still undecided whether I want to do or skip the first stage from Irun to San Sebastian. Because it's a very long distance on the very first day. Last year, on camino portugues, I started very easy (8 km, 16 km, 20 km) and so on and it was the perfect slow start for me. I looked on the map and it looks like it's impossible to divide this stage in two, because there is no accommodation on the way, right? :/ I would like to do it because it looks so beautiful!

Hi Anita. That was very enjoyable and some of those birds migrate all the way up to Canada. I can name a few of what you showed us: Starting @1:26 Canada geese and their goslings; 1:45 White egret; 2:00 Downy woodpecker; 2:17 Great blue heron; 3:11 Great blue heron in flight; 4:09 Mallard drake; 4:11 Red wing blackbird; 4:19 Turkey vultures; 4:38 yet another Great blue heron and I will not mention the slitheries on the log ... he he he. Have a great drive and will see you on the next one.

Thanks. I had no idea it was peak migration season when we booked several months ago. If you are into birding, this is certainly the place to be.
