  • The Camino is calling and we must heed her call. Therefore, we are heading back to the Camino Portuguese in May 2025. Unlike in 2019 when we did one and a half days along the coast before moving to the Central route, this time we will stay on the Coastal route the entire time. As always, I'll be posting before and during the adventure. Please be sure to subscribe so that you don't miss a thing.

    Hi Anita,
    Great news!!
For some reason I can't post my long comment. I try to split it.
I walked the coastal route twice (last in April/May) and have two recommendations for you.
    1. Stay two nights in Vigo and on day 2 take a day trip to the most beautiful Cies islands. Boat ticket to be booked ahead, e.g. at Mardeons website.
Hotel "Ciudad de Vigo" is excellent and close to the harbour and also close to the Camino.

Wonderful news!! We’re currently on day 5 of the Camino del Norte. It’s been tough but the views are epic. We’ll be back on the Camino Portuguese in 2027. ❤ Buen Camino!

Love the Norte. Did it two years ago. Great food in the small villages.

    2. From Pontevedra I strongly recommend to walk to the very beautiful village Combarro (we stayed in Hotel Xeito, but there might be better ones).
Either stay in Combarro or directly climb up to the Monastery of Armenteira where you should try to get a room for the night.
Book far ahead over their website even if it says that no reservation is possible. Avoid the weekend if possible because then it's very crowded.
Next day is the most spectacular day of the whole trip - but don't walk it on a weekend and also rainy weather makes it rather difficult.
In case of rain or wet trail walk on the less beautiful but safer left side of the creek.
The trail down from the Armenteira Monastery is called "Ruta da pedra e da auga". 6 km full of beautiful nature along a creek with old mills and little waterfalls.
The day ends in Vilanova de Arousa.
Next day take an exciting 90 minute boat trip to Pontesecures. Book boat ticket ahead. This boat ride is accepted for the Compostela.
    Many greetings from Germany,
    Lisa
