PATCHABLE DRUM SEQUENCER / making a drum machine EP 2
Heyyyy
This is my patchable CD4017 gate sequencer for the modular drum machine. The patching is kind of a weird workflow for a drum sequencer, but it IS fun and inspires you to program different sequences from your usual drum sequencers.
Here's a link to the schematic and a zip file with the gerber files for the PCB: www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/vrmmjwu7ibw4y7gjd8d9k/AAw6u-3j2ZaUl5axYa49uuc?rlkey=nducau7np31i633y641xm8ug0&st=or2uf5r9&dl=0
Download some free samples from the drum machine here: www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/1qnq4tfit7n3yl197uus7/AAOpEYMIfBrOxpDorIYCdq8?rlkey=xsegjz8jpvbce5tqewcj2mggd&st=6ij8815g&dl=0

HALT!! 🚨🚨🚨 THERE’S AN ERROR IN THE FILTER SCHEMATIC! The 10K resistor after the dual pot should be connected to the wiper of the pot! I’ve updated the schematic in the dropbox folder, please use it instead of the one in the video! Why can i never not mess up the schematics in these videos 😭😭😭 I built my own version of Jan Östman's solina string synth. It's a 4 voice polyphonic MIDI controlled a...

super simple DIY electret condenser microphone (phantom powered) + DIY microphone shootout
มุมมอง 2.5K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey! I built myself some simple condenser mics and thought I would make a comparison video between my different DIY microphones. The electret mics sound really good considering how simple and cheap they are! You can search "electret capsule" on eBay and get these capsules for like 1-2 euros for 10pcs. For some reason I've rarely seen phantom powered electret microphone circuits online and I hat...

DIY toms made out of springform cake pans
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Hey! I made these 2 toms out of cheap springform pans and regular drum heads & rims. I think they sound pretty nice for how shallow and simple they are! I should’ve tuned the 12” tom a bit better for the video but its too late for that lol Thanks bye! ❤️ You can also follow me on instagram: lauri_diy
DIY broadcast style microphone made out of plywood!
มุมมอง 972ปีที่แล้ว
Hi, I made another microphone, yay! This one is a broadcast style dynamic microphone, kinda like EV RE20, Shure SM7B or Røde Procaster. I'm actually surprised the plywood grill did not completely ruin the sound of the mic! I couldn't find the name of the capsule that's in the Ibanez TH300 mic, but you can get all kinds of dynamic mic capsules super cheap on eBay and a every capsule i've tried h...

DIY 12V bipolar modular synth power supply and case 😘
มุมมอง 2.9Kปีที่แล้ว
OY!!! There mught be some error in the PCB design or i have just made an error soldering the components! I measured that the outputs are giving 12V and -12V just like they are supposed to but i noticed some weird noise issues etc with modules that work perfectly fine with other power supplies. So i’ll remove the link to the PCB gerber files for now and see if i can figure out whats going on! Bu...
DIY 3 string electric bass
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
This is my first diy slide guitar recently turned into a fretless bass! I used the lowest 3 strings of a regular bass guitar string set. Flatwound strings might give an even warmer and more mellow vintage sound. Sorry there's really no footage of the build, because I built the guitar so long ago, but I thought this might still be interesting or helpful stuff for some! Thanks bye! ❤️ You can als...
That's one way to do it! Crude, yet effective! Well done!
To me the hats sound great
Actually sounds great dampened.
Do you think a DIY CS-80 is possible? (with Arduino and the GX-80 VST)
I dont know a whole lot about coding, but im pretty sure there is no way to run VSTs on arduinos, because the hardware just isnt capable! You could build a dedicated midi controller to use with your DAW and the VST but thats about it i think!
niiiiice! I've tried to build it on Arduino Uno, but it doesn't work! The RX led doesn't even blink :( I've replaced the octocoupler's diode with a led to see if there is signal from my keyboard at that one is fine... Would you have an idea about what could be wrong? Thanks a lot!
I’m not sure what the problem could be! Make sure your pins are correct, as the UNO has a completely different pinout. And remember the output pin needs to be a PWM pin.
But i guess the RX led should be blinking even regardless of the output pin or the analog inputs
Oh and make sure your keyboard is on the correct midi channel! If youre not using switches to change the channel, it should be channel 1, if i remember correctly
@@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV it works! Thanks!
Nice!!
🙌♥️
Parabéns ótimo trabalho , obrigado pelos samplers
Really nice tone like rain drops in the sunshine. That end piece is great.
What heads did you use?
They were just the cheapest heads i could find on ebay lol
Just discovered your channel, awesome work
Wow it's weird seeing that dude's name here. The guy has been completely run out of the synth world for lying and massively exaggerating the capabilities of his products and scamming dozens of people out of money and never sending them their product. He's infamous on the muff wiggler forums. I've been looking into DIY electric instruments myself lately and see his name all over the past internet, and he undeniably did have some good ideas and was at least a somewhat talented engineer. But I've seen too many of his designs that do not have proper safety circuits in place and/or do not work as intended. I am working to recreate his tiny TS synth right now.
Oh, i didn’t even know this, sounds awful! I’ve only used his Solina and Minipops codes and they are wonderful! Not a fan of scamming, though! 💀
greatnss so much greatness
I really hope you'll release drumkits/samplepacks. Would love this to be a new wave, making and recording custom drums to use within audio production!
Thats a good idea! I might start collecting some samples whenever i record the drums and eventually put out a little sample pack 😎 I did make a sample pack of some sounds from my analog modular drum machine, you can find the samples in the drum machine videos descriptions!
I have no idea how I found this channel or even when I started following it but I'm damn glad it happened. Absolutely perfect good Sir.
Thanks! I’m glad you ended up here too! 💛
Please don’t stop Lauri. I love your videos
Thanks! ❤️ I’ll never stop!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Excited every time a new video slides into my notifications
Hi, there are some stackable banana plugs where the wire comes out a little to the side and the hole is at the top rather than on the side, perhaps these could be easier to use?
Yeah cables like that would be waaay better, but they’re also more expensive! I’ve just bought the cheapest wire and cheapest connectors and built my own cables hahah
@@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV There are also some quite cheap ones 😄
Maybe i’ll look for some cheap ones, thanks for the tip! 🌞
You're truly a star, keep it up Lauri
Lovely!
the best channel! informative and cute
MY GOAT !!!
genius! thankyou regards from Argentina
Sounds real f'ing nice.
From the sound I would say that you are not only syncing the second clock but also over enabling or disabling it. The ON/OFF ratio of the master clock defines the enable vs disable duration of the 2nd clock. So it could be interesting to control the on/off ratio of the master clock. With it you can control the number of 'ratchets', so to speak.
Yeah that’s true! You could add a diode and potentiometer to the oscillator for a crude PW control so you could get different kinds of ratchets
Glad you’re doing this series
That's brilliant way of using my favorite circuit. Got inspired of it and will probably do something similar as well. Was thinking that half of the inverters could also be used...well...as an inverter to invert the three clock pulses. Useful to get for instance kick and snare on every other beat. The 12V pulse may be bit hot for some commercial equipment so maybe the 1k resistor on the output could be moved before the LED so that they form a voltage divider. Then just adjust to liking. Some equipment I've seen use 7V pulses, some 5V and some use something else. Regarding the pulse width, you could add a potentiometer with swiper connected to output, one end to the rate potentiometer and one end through the diode. This will limit the max frequency a bit and wont give terribly lot of PW control, but some anyway. Oh yes, it's just a lovely circuit and one can do all kinds of fun with it.
Oh true, i dont know why i didnt concider making 3 clocks with inverted outputs too, that would be handy! I’ve used a potentiometer and a diode as PW control with another 40106 oscillator circuit before! It’s kinda sketchy as it does indeed adjust the pitch, but its a very useful addition concidering how simple it is! 😎
Hell yea! I've been looking into this for while. You gotta do clock divider next!
I do have a clock divider in the system and i’ll make a video about it soon as well! But i will first make videos about some of the sound generators so if anyone wants to build these, they can get some sounds out. But after that, the clock divider might be next!
Nice, new video 🎉
good one
Sounds wicked 👍😁
Thank you! This video is really inspiring. Getting me back into DIY synth. Do you think this schematic will work with a cd4069 chip? I've got loads left over. Looking forward to the next videos
No sorry, this wont work with a cd4069, because it is a hex inverter. The cd40106 is a hex schmitt trigger ic so they have a different function. You can make square wave oscillators with the 4069 as well, but it is a different circuit! You can find examples of a 4069 oscillator on google!
@@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV oh that's a shame. I'll have to order some 40106 chips! I like the thought of getting the weird synced rhythms with this module.
Yeah it is fun messing around with the sync! Its a useful chip to have anyway!
@@garywallace1938 Luckily the 40106 cheap as chips. The 4069 is very useful IC as well. Probably the most common Twin-T drum circuit can be made with it and it's all over synth schematics else where as well so you can surely get them used up.
@@recyclop4058 thanks, 10x 40106 on order! 👍
nicely done !!!!
I think your microphone gives your voice additional warmth, it sounds good, would you tell me which microphone it is, maybe you made it yourself.
Thanks! Yeah its a mic i built myself! It’s a cheap dynamic capsule i ordered from ebay and the body of the mic is just wood from a local forest lol
Oh and the grill of the mic is a simple tea strainer and theres a microphone windshield inside the strainer around the mic capsule
@@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV ...ok, very imaginative and creative with the tea strainer :) Good things don't always have to be expensive!
Yeah for sure! I got the idea from a comment in one of my microphone videos!
Cool! 👍🏾
Genial guy
😝 really cool hyvä päivä
Nice job men, I watched full video and it was amazing
Very nice project ! Thank you !
Magee projekti :D
Kiitti! 😎😎😎
it sounds sick! can i ask you whats the lenghr of it from end to end? i wanna try to recreate it
Thanks! The lenght from bridge to nut is about 67cm / 26,4 inches. And from end to end the whole guitar is about 90cm / 35,4 inches
@@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV thank you so much!! I'll comment again if i succeed💛 Pd: centimeter supremacy!
Awesome, have fun building it! Centimeters are the only correct unit of length and we all know it somewhere deep inside
I really love the lemon bottle on the shelf!
I love lemon juice and also the fact that i’ll see you in about 12 hours, get ready to pajama party like its 1999 🍋🍋🍋
nicely done....what are you gunna put in the space within the rack?
I’m going to fill the empty space with more modules! I have a couple of circuits in mind that i want to build
At least some logic gate stuff!
Onko vahvaria suunnitteilla
Great to see another video. A suggestion to try to suppress the "bleed through" - add a bucket load of capacitance right at the power input the module. On my build of your twin-t kick drum I put 2000uF at the drum supply terminals. It stopped untriggered popping of the drum. Maybe the same will work for you. I find any module that uses a notch filter arrangement needs a lot of capacitance on the power rail at the module itself.
Thanks! Yeah i do have a capacitor at the power input of every module but cant remember what values i’ve used, i might have to buy some bigger caps and try if it makes a difference with this. I also do have decoupling caps close to all the cmos ic:s and that helps with the bleedthrough as well
Cool! Sounds very vintage
Cool stuff. Looking forward to this series!
Love it. Keep at it my dudeyyy
You are the cool man. Man. Very cool.
Cool beans!!
Can't wait for the next video... Daddy
