Hossfeld Bender - Angle Iron Flange Out
Here we see how to set up and use the Hossfeld Universal Bender to bend a radius in angle iron with the flange (or leg) of the material facing out.
We are using a model No. 1 bender. This is the smaller of the two machines the Hossfeld Universal Bender Company makes. The model No. 2 bender is is about 25% larger than the smaller No. 1 but is virtually identical in setup and manual operations.
This video is intended as a reference for students learning to use this equipment in the Tyler MetalShop.

Making Accurate Bends with the Hossfeld Bender
มุมมอง 17K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This is how you make a predictable and accurate part using the Hossfeld Universal bender. I'm using 5/16 inch diameter cold-rolled mild steel, and the eye-bolt bending setup on a Model No. 1 Hossfeld Universal Bender (the smaller model).

Grinding & Blending a Weld
มุมมอง 176K6 ปีที่แล้ว
This will describing how you blend out weld on a flat surface. The first step is to have a good weld; good Fit up (parts need to be aligned perfectly before welding, no porosity (gas bubbles in your weld), good penetration (so you don't grind off all the material holding your parts together), and no undercuts (the edges of your welds don't have groves or channels cut below the surface of the ba...

Welding a Square Frame made with the Whitney Bender
your clear & comprehensive guide has given me the confidence to take the first step with my new grinder. Thanks so much 🤝
Just in the process of getting acquainted with my first grinder today. Terrific video to help beginners like me operate tools safely
Why is he talking like we all work where hes at!? "We dont provide these at this shop, so youll have to just order it online" 😂 all good tho, great video buddy!
I worked for 2 abrasive manufacturers for over 40 years and have visited literally thousands of manufacturers fabricating many types of steel, stainless steel and fibreglass products. This video demonstrates various levels of grinding and finishing abrasives but should not be seen as a “how to” instructional on finishing light structural steel. I never saw anyone using non woven Velcro discs of fine grit orbital psa discs to blend welds on light angle iron. My recommendation would be to use a 60 grit flap discs for this application.
umm right off the bat "I got all my safety gear on..." fires off with bare hands?!
What grit is the first one.?
The wheel.
thanks a bunch. i am very new with angle grinders. glad there is material like yours to learn from. im almost ready to put my angle grinder to work
Super helpful. Learned so much I needed to know.
The best video and demonstration yet great job thank you very much😊
Great tip about the safety guard - it needs to be aligned then secured toward the hand that will hold the grinder (on the side the handle is mounted on). It is there to protect the hand holding the grinder should you slip. To protect your eyes always wear ANSI protective eye shields/goggles when operating a grinder.
wow no gloves?
I have a diamond cup grinding wheel that is threaded/ do I need a nut on top or no? I I don’t like how far mine sticks out.
Why did it take me soo long to find this most helpful video!! Thanks a million!!
👏👏👏👏
Needs to watch out for his feet
man i only have a stick welder, can a stick weld look as good as this?
How much money
Interesting I would have thought the weld overlap would have structural purposes...
Thank you so much for such excellent video. I just got today my first angle grinder from HF and despite seeing 7-8 videos, NONE of them explained as clear as you did on how to attach the different disks, paying attention to the flange nut orientation plus emphasizing on safety at the same time. Awesome. These prior TH-camrs should learn from you on how to make an excellent set up video. Just subscribed. Bravo Zulu!🙂
Instruction was clear as glass. Thank you.
Clamp a piece of brass flat stock, like 1/2 × 1 1/2 on backside, and weld with a little more penetration. It will remain smooth on backside.
Thank you, for excellent, clear, simple, display & explanation.
Very helpful tips 👍
The first thing imma use my angle grinder for is to cut my cars aftermarket plastic sideskirts shorter. I bought a metal cutting wheel... I think it might have been overkill but i might need it in the future. Wish I had a garage. Really sucks to be doing projects in my apt living room. But anyways thanks for the info
what about the inside of the angle iron? how do grind the inside part?
Ever used a belt sander?
What do u call that first disc u used
Super helpful, exactly what I needed! I was having a loosely spinning blade, turns out the dimpled nut was facing the wrong direction. Thank you for the help!
Hi Rob. I am a university student attempting to build a sofa with a steel pipe frame. My university has one of these machines (Hossfeld Universal Bender) but no one seems to know how to use it, it’s been around so long. Would you be available to possibly do a video call with me and give me a tutorial on how to use it specifically for my needs? It would be greatly appreciated.
wonderful,

yeah thanks man, i was worried putting that in unthreaded grinder on cause the nut just wasn’t secure enough for my comfort

How to grind round tables
Excellent video. I have one thin wavy/fragile looking circle piece you did not address. Any clue as to what that is? I have never used a grinder. Just using it to polish with 4” felt polishing wheels.
Thanks man. I have some cutting to do on a flat bar with type 27 and I plan to go full MAGA on the bar with my Dewalt D28402 and type 27 disc.
Thank you huge help
Great vid
Hi Rob! Thanks for the amazing educational videos. How did you source or create that large manual?
Hey Taylor, The manual came with the machine. One of the past school technicians put together the binder and added to two colorized pages on the angle Iron flange out instructions. If you own a Hossfeld, I would call them up and see if they'll send you a copy. The official one is printed on sturdy stock and has good clear illustrations and images. Otherwise I have an OK scan I might be able to e-mail but the images are a bit blown out.
Brother I start a grinding job on Monday, I don't want to fail, wish me luck 🙏
Didn't he put the cutting disc on the wrong way? at 7:00
Can this bender do heel up as well?
whate is the price I need
I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read th-cam.com/users/postUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.
Exactly what a first time user is looking for. Thank you
Why go to all this effort when it's going to get painted to prevent rust anyway?
I wish I would’ve showed my welder this video before he made my driveway door. 😢
Thank you!
How much more infor
