Game Over or Taking Off? Mosquitos and Tiger Moths in Plane Mechanic Simulator
An honest game review. Plane Mechanic Simulator features a de Havilland Mosquito bomber and Tiger Moth trainer. In this video I review the game which I downloaded onto my Linux PC from the Steam platform. At the time of purchase it looked like a bargain but should I heed the negative comments

Why are there so many holes in a Mosquito? What are they for? Surely they will cause drag?
มุมมอง 79K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
A look at what the apertures, ducts, ports and intakes are for on a Mosquito. The high performance of the DH.98 Mosquito was partly due to it’s light-weight composite construction, mainly built of different types of wood.Another factor was the smooth aerodynamic shape of the fuselage and wing, making the aircraft very “slippery” and reducing drag. To help still further, the fuselage and wings w...
Birth of the "Wooden Wonder": Salisbury Hall - the home of the de Havilland Aircraft Museum
มุมมอง 6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
An exploration of how and why Salisbury Hall was chosen to develop the first Mosquito aircraft early in WW2. Located only a few miles south of de Havilland's main factory at Hatfield it offered a secluded site for such a project . However having no airstrip did later prove a challenge! The design of the lightweight, fast, wooden DH.98 Mosquito was too radical for the British Air Ministry, which...
Modellers at the Museum

Three volunteers at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum tell us about what they love about constructing model aircraft. They discuss their favourite kits, aircraft types, research and modelling techniques, and show us a small selection of their most cherished exhibits. Each week, the museum is visited by loads of aviation enthusiasts, many of whom also build models of aircraft. And the Museum is d...

มุมมอง 7K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Without Freddo Frog there may never have been a Mosquito. It's 90 years since the Great Air race and the 'golden age of aviation'. It was a great success for de Havilland and some of the world's most famous aviators. Learn about the race the pilots and the plane that won.
Mosquito Roll Out, 13 October 2024.
มุมมอง 225K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
A couple of times a year our Mosquito Fighter-Bomber is rolled out of the hangar she occupies with the two other DH.98s to give visitors a different perspective on the aircraft. This only takes place weather permitting! A dedicated team of volunteers look after all three Mosquitos and ensure the 'roll outs' run smoothly, and display ancillary equipment and weapons that accompany the exhibit. Th...
Hornet Model: Incredibly detailed scratch built 1/24 scale model DH.103 Hornet
มุมมอง 1.6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
This Model was built by the late Mr F.J Butters of St Albans. It has been left in its undercoat paint to preserve Mr Butters’ work. The only change made to the model was to carefully remove the engine cowls to reveal the extremely detailed work on the engines. It featured in our video of the museum's Hornet display. See our full video about the DH.103 Hornet exhibit at the Museum here: th-cam.c...
DH.110 Sea Vixen - meeting the restoration team at work

Ray and Rob from the Vixen restoration team give us a tour around the aircraft and explain its significance whilst it was in service with the Royal Navy. Designed and built at Hatfield, the DH110 took the Vampire/Venom twin-boom layo...
Jeep joins Horsa Glider for Market Garden 80 commemoration
มุมมอง 6343 หลายเดือนก่อน
As our tribute to the largest Airborne Operation of the Second World War at that time, we wanted to display a Jeep, ready for air-lifting, alongside our original Airspeed Horsa glider exhibit. The Horsa was a British troop-carrying glider used during the Second World War. It was developed and manufactured by Airspeed Limited (a subsidiary of de Havilland Aircraft Company), and was named after t...

Horsa Glider Plywood Preparation

The Horsa Glider restoration team fashion a new plywood section for later fitting to our unique airborne landing exhibit. Bernie, Terry and Martin shows us how it's done using decades of learnt woodcrafting skill and knowledge. The hundreds of people involved in manufacturing this aircraft during WW2 would have used the same skills and it is worth remembering that this month, September, is the ...
