Pettyjohn ROUS, The Rat you want around the house.
In this video you will hear the ROUS played alongside the 1981 DRV. Following that short song demo, I spend a few minutes dialing in different tones with just the ROUS.
Comment if you'd like to know the signal chain.
Ultimately, I like this pedal. It's got some amazing medium drive tones in it, and lead tones that can be perfectly tamed or wildly unruly, depending on what you're looking for. Running it at 18V was my preferred set up, but 9v sounds great too!
The DRV is a really special pedal and I think the ROUS can definitely hold its own in the realm of Rat clones when standing next to it. Even with just three knobs, the DRV is still pretty darn versatile, but with the ROUS's 5 points of adjustment, you can be a bit more intentional with your tweaking. You can't go wrong with either, but at $200 and in a smaller enclosure, the ROUS may very well look more appealing to most! Again, Great work Pettyjohn team!

    Thanks, Drew, for taking the time to make this video. I’ll be laying out a ton of effects on the TRIO 28. I’ve built a number of large pedalboards using wood, so I have a good understanding of setting up proper signal flow and running patch cords. Temple Audio products are exactly what I’ve been waiting for. I’ll be able to approach my next project knowing that I’ll end up what an elegant solution. Between the wealth of information posted by experienced users like you, and resources such as Pedal Playground, I’ll be able to get past any quirks in the building process. Many years ago my dad, who was a highly experienced electrician with an eye for detail, introduced me to beauty of zip ties and their accessories. I wish he was around to see the results of this build. Anyway, thanks for the mini-workshop, and the inspiration to get busy.

    what pedal is making those glitchy octave up cascading reverse sounding noises in the intro?

    • @drewroze4168
      @drewroze4168 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kevin, that’s like 90% a patch on the ZOIA called Loop Forrest! And then a very subtle delay from the D1 to further emphasize with much less prominent repeats. Again, most of the heavy lifting was coming from the ZOIA. The thing is, it’s very sporadic and can sometimes wrong away with brief foul sounds. So I’ve been hunting down a way to recreate it but with more control. I pretty much nailed it with the pitch shifting of the Thermae into a more ambient and glitchy delay from the Specular tempus. With that set up the glitchy octave noises always stayed in key and were a lot more reliable! Either way, I’m sure there’s other ways to achieve it that don’t cost $1000 in delays. Hahaha let me know if you experiment with it! Oh! Also, the microcosm gets pretty damn close on its own as well!

    Nice video, and rad board! Question? Regarding your Goldenface OD, since that's always on, would it have been possible to remove it from where it currently is, move the tap tempo delay into its space, move the Tumnus and the Speculan Tempest (spelling?) down, and then finally put the Goldenface OD on the top?

      100% yes! Lol I actually ended up doing something similar to that! It’s a never ending puzzle and I enjoy the process a lot. Trying new things, thinking it’ll work only to get on stage for rehearsal and finding that it doesn’t. Haha I’ll often find a work flow that works for me for a couple weeks and then completely change it up for no reason. Again, I just enjoy the modularity of a pedalboard!

    I bought an HX stomp for direct recording and tried for like 2 years to be happy with the amp modelling, my main amp is a Friedman Dirty Shirley 40 and so I go for that open, warm low to mid gain Marshally thing.. I tried with the stomp, bought a bunch of IRs, etc.. never really happy with it. Bought an Iridium a few weeks ago and was instantly "this is much better, more real, touch sensitive, tone, etc.." I am running it direct with HX Native for some verb/delay. I want to just play it not constantly jacking with it trying to be happy.

    • @drewroze4168
      @drewroze4168 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man, I get that! Ultimately you can get amazing tones from most solutions out there today. The HX stomp is amazing, my buddies of We Never Settled recorded most of their guitar parts with the HX stomp and it sounds PHENOMENAL. Definitely check out their album and you’ll be amazed by the tones coming from a simulator. Lol At the end of the day it’s all about what work flow is best for YOU. And that might not always be the same in every scenario. For example, while at home, I plug into my real amps. When Im playing somewhere and want the closest thing to plugging into a real amp and getting amazing tones, the iridium wins. But right now I’m on deployment in Europe and would LOVE the versatility and tweak-ability of the HX stomp, just to have something to tinker with, you know?
