Hey man I did exactly what you did and it didn’t work for me. (I doubled checked to make sure I had the right cables.) My HX stomp isn’t powering on with your set up. I noticed after that my HX stomp says 3A 9VDC. Could that be the issue? If not, what else could I look out for?
Hey drew thanks for the video. I had a question. I just bought a couple of these Ojai’s to replace the voodoo lava pedal power 2 plus that I had powering my Strymon Timeline and my Eventide Space pedal. My question is will this thing work with the Eventide Space pedal?? Thanks mate.
@@decembersevetv Honestly brotha, I don’t think it should have any issues powering the space! That’s such a great reverb. Haha It’s 500ma at 9v and that’s what the Ojai’s output per plug, so that should be just fine!
@drewroze4168 should I run it off of a single 500ma plug as opposed to the dual prong to one on the voodoo labs? Or does it still require the double load?
Thanks, very helpful. I have a Ojai for a different board but for the HX I've been using the Sweetfoot HX for a few days now and it seems to work fine. Plus it has a cool picture of Nicholas Tesla and his eyes glow when it is turned on. Has a dedicated outlet and patch cable for the HX and 3 regular outlets for 9v pedals.
Yeah, his stuff is great!!! That was almost the route I went, but the Ojai has been working out perfectly! I’ve recently been using just one output to power the HX STOMP rather than the current doubler, and it’s been working fine! I don’t recommend doing this but it’s working without any issues. Ultimately I think you just have to make sure you don’t exceed the overall mAh output capacity.
Cool! Have you tried powering the HX without the current doubler? Strymon says 500 mah is the port labeled amount available, but each port will go above that to match the device’s draw as long as the total draw from all ports doesn’t exceed the total of the Ojai or Zuma.
Hahaha a while back I actually lent the coupler to my brother in law so he could use with his new stomp for the weekend, I plugged mine in just to see if it would work and then haven’t used the coupler since. 🙌🏼
Is it possible to get a link to the documentation on this? I'm converting my power supply over and it'd be great to have this information. I looked through the Ojai manual, the Strymon website, and their TH-cam channel on their power supplies. There was some round about slight mention that this might be possible, but no hard information on that. Thanks for your help.
Just subbed. Thanks for the great info. I’m researching a ton about the HX stomp to add to my setup. I just bought a Metro 20 to downsize from my current board and be able to travel with the board in my carry on lol.
Hey man! Thank you so much for the support and welcome to the channel! Super stokes for you brotha! It was a scary transition at first, wondering if it was all going to add up to my past setups. @@drewroze4168 it helps a lot thank you. Hope you don't mind, just one more question. The DC cable that runs from the power brick to the Ojai, is it a standard 5.5 X 2.1 mm centre negative or is it a completely different size and polarity?
@@drewroze4168 not yet dude. I’m just planning to build my first powerful rig for giggin’. And I think I will choose hx stomp for the backbone of my rig. Any recomendation?
@@BagusWibisono nice man! Well I’ve tried all of the ones you mentioned and I’d highly recommend the cioks dc 7. It’s so thin, all inclusive, very flexible as far as power needs, it’s easily expandable and built like a tank. 10/10 bro!
Great set up! I got Hx stomp + JHS morning glory v4 too it's superb! Now I'm planning to get Keeley comp and an fs switch for my stomp. Anyway, what pedalboard you use?
Hi Drew and thanks for the explanation. I have an HX stomp and considering to power it in a different way. In my pedalboard there's only the Stomp and a Wireless receiver (Sennheiser Pedalboard ws set) that needs 500 mA of power, plus a switch and an Expression pedal that are passive. The 1Spot Trutone power adaptor has 1700 mA of capacity. Do you think I can power both my devices in daisy chain with that power adaptor instead of buying an Ojai or DC7 Cioks or whatever? Thanks
It’s the Metro 24! I forced myself to downsize from a Templeboard Trio 21. I was afraid it’d be too small but It actually has plenty of space on it! Especially if you get a slim power supply to mount underneath. What board are you using right now?
Hey man, I ordered these cables based on your recommendation, and I got the Amazon cable from the link under the video. I’m sitting down with the board now and I’m trying to power from a strymon Zuma. But the 2.1-2.5 cable doesnt sit tight in the green end of the current doubler. Is there something I may not be doing right? Or was it loose for you too. I noticed it made the Stomp super sensitive, turning on and off, so if there’s a more reliable way, I’d rather try it.
I’ve seen a couple people using it, from what I remember, that was a polarity converter. I only ever used it on the Eventide H9.. I’d just grab a 2.5mm barrel plug for a few bucks and play it safe!
Freddie Louden hey brotha, I’m pretty sure that the barrel just mimics whatever the source is. So if your source is center negative, then the other end of the adapter will be center negative! I’ve seen people saying to invert the polarity for the HX stomp, but as far as I know, that’s not necessary. The HX Stomp is center negative like most pedals. It just needs the 2.5mm barrel instead of the normal 2.1mm.
Drew’s Tone Talk Thanks Drew. The Cioks guy seems to talk about polarity reversal too in his L6 powering video. Puzzling. I really appreciate the reply Drew. Thanks.
Freddie Louden Yeah, I seen that too! He’s a genius so I’m not going to say he’s wrong or anything. I’m just going off the facts provided by Line 6 themselves! Can’t beat straight from the source lol I appreciate your question brotha!
Drew’s Tone Talk BTW. He metered it out and the L6 pedals don’t pull near the spec current. The most he could get any to do draw was a little over an amp. The Stomp never pulled even 900 ma.
Line 6 says that the polarity on it’s current lineup is normal and that the need for polarity switching for these is only when using solutions designed for their older reversed center products. Here's their exact explanation: line6.com/support/topic/47521-pedal-board-power-supply-for-hx-stomp Dec 08, 2019 · The Stomp is center negative, just like the vast majority of pedals out there. The reason so many solutions require a polarity swap is because the 3rd party L6 cable adaptors (to bring the size down to standard) were designed for older L6 tech that was center positive and also reversed polarity.
Haven’t been using one and I haven’t had any issues! If I’m remembering correctly, even the stock power supply that comes with the stomp is 9v center negative, which is the standard for power supplies so I’m not sure why people have been saying it needs the polarity inverter
Those are the Premium Gold Cables by EBS. DUDE. They’re great. Lol I’ve literally been able to put pedals right next to each other as if there was nothing there. Definitely check them out, they’re worth it!
I’ve felt it get a little warm, more so the power brick, but nothing to worry about. The HX stomp itself gets WAY hotter even when using the stock power supply. I read up on the HX Stomp being hot and it said something about it being okay, electronics like this are built to withstand high temperatures. If it starts smoking, then run. Lol Jkjk but you should be fine bro. It worries me a bit at first but I’ve been running it like this for months now and haven’t had one issue, even using all 5 power ports.
