The NLT is one of the only modern translations that has gotten BETTER with each revision. Sadly, is basically the only Bible that tells you if the "you" is singular OR plural. ( see John 3:7) The CSB was not an improvement to the Holman Bible translation. I have the "Jewish Annotated New Testament". It is really sad that there is anti-Jewish HATE in the hearts of many "christians". ( Such people might want to re-read ROMANS 11:21!!!!!!!) There are some verses that I have researched/compared over the years. ( I know it is not possible to have EVERYTHING in one translation.) Such as: Matt. 1:2, Matt. 3:1, Matt. 5:2, Matt. 7:1, Matt. 7:7, Matt. 20:20, Matt. 28:18-20, Mark 7:19, Mark 15:13, Luke 3:33, Luke 16:13, Luke 16:19-31, John 1:5, John 3:16, John 5:10, John 11:35, John 21:15-17, Acts 14:13, Acts 16:37, Acts 19:15, Rom. 10:4, 1 Cor. 7:1, 2 Cor. 8:1, Gal. 3:1, Eph. 2:8, Phil. 2:7, 2 Tim. 3:16, Heb. 11:31, James 1:1, 2 Peter 2:4, 1 John 2:2, Rev. 6:8, Rev. 20:11, and others.

Quite a coincidence, this. I’m currently reading through the Salem Kirban Reference Bible. It’s a traditional (not new Scofield) KJV text, with every page including some uncontroversial commentary by Kirban and Cohen or a Spurgeon devotional. There is some (single colour, and not distracting) highlighting of prophetic passages throughout, and the book of Revelation is replaced with the complete text of Kirban’s Revelation Visualised, per your NT. It must have been quite a popular Bible in its day, as my copy dated 1992 (published by AMG) claims to be the fifth printing since its original publication in 1979. I paid a king’s ransom for a new-old-stock copy; it’s a very rare book here in the UK where Salem Kirban is almost completely unknown.

I have NEVER seen a Gideons pocket Bible in hardcover in my entire life so I bought it right away for 50 cents. It's in immaculate condition in dark blue with gold lettering on the cover + spine, also has gold gilded pages. I take it with me on the road when I know I'll be stuck in the car or in an appointment. Translations don't really matter to me because that's why The Lord gave us the spirit of discernment, so regardless of whatever translation you prefer, don't let a lukewarm Bible pharisee tell you otherwise, because that's what the devil wants, he want's to create strife through foolish arguments. Nice discussion of the five Bibles. I agree with your assessment of both the REB and the NRSV. If you appreciate ecumenical Bibles you might check out the JPS Bible (Hebrew Bible only, of course) and the NABRE (New American Bible Revised Edition). The JPS and the NABRE often deal with "problem" passages differently than the NRSV or NRSVUE resolve them, but both are every bit as ecumenical as the NRSV. A good reading Bible, I find, is the Jerusalem Bible. I read the original 1966 version in French, but the English translation is almost as good. If you like the NABRE, you might consider the Catholic Study Bible (NABRE), which has plentiful notes and cross-references and also 400+ pages of commentary ("Reading Guide"), which I find very useful. There's hardly anything in the NABRE that is uniquely Catholic, even in the notes and commentary. It's just a solid academic Bible. If you speak French, the best ecumenical Bible by far is the Traduction Oecumenique de la Bible (TOB), a kind of scholarly, ecumenical revision of La Bible de Jerusalem. My favorite Spanish language Bible is the Biblia Latinoamerica (NOT La Biblia Latinoamericana, which is La Biblia de Jerusalen), which is very easy to read but decidedly Roman Catholic in flavor. A solid Bible with a wide range of mostly conservative notes is the NET Bible. The NET isn't really for reading, but is an excellent resource for broadly conservative commentary. I find myself using it more than the ESV Study Bible. PM 2024

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I haven't read it much, but the JPS 1985 is one I reference, I have it in the Oxford Jewish Study Bible. I've considered getting Oxford's Catholic Study Bible as well to get the NABRE which I'm less familiar with but I've heard others recommend it, even some who like me are not Catholic. I picked up a couple 1966 JBs this year, I have the big one with all the notes as well as a smaller volume containing just the NT. I've found both the translation and the notes to be quite excellent. The NET Full Notes edition never leaves my desk, I reference it often for the notes and to see how it translates things, but I find the actual translation a bit too technical and "cold" for actual reading. I'll have to take your word for it on the French and Spanish bibles as a monolinguist, but that's interesting to learn about, I hadn't heard of either of those. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

He also mentioned we have wisdom dancing before him as a woman in the original language as Sophia. Can I speculate a male female relationship in the divine? My answer is yes. But would I translate the Father as YHWH-Sophia? My answer is no as I would retain the authority aspect of the original.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if it simply said Parent. Instead, it gives the impression of two parents; Metzger was right to criticize this kind of translation method.

It leads me to wonder what theological implications other changes they made might have; it's definitely a concern. Parent would be a safer choice.

That really is a great find, even for a disappointing translation. And the extra paperwork make that a no-brainer. Nice to hear your youngest making her TH-cam debut!

She had her own concerns to express! That printout took me back to the early days of buying online, huge nostalgia trip.

Great review. I still use the 1662 for Sunday Evensong. As a lifelong Anglican who became Lutheran a few years back, I have yet to find any Lutheran prayer book that can surpass the BCP. We have some great prayer books, but nothing like THE Prayer Book!

Thank you! The BCP does seem to be unmatched. I have a Lutheran Prayer Book from 1951 which I've found helpful at times.

Doesn't their Marxist changes of using silly twisted euphemism fails terribly? the nouns are far better for sick people such as demonis, epileptics than people with adjectives/diseases. Prost;tute is still quite offensive as wh*re, why not go for "adult entertainer", escort, lol?

It was an interesting find but not something that I would read. Still, I enjoyed your video.

I enjoy it for how unique and interesting it is and the issues it brings up, but no not one I'd read.
