I love that little KJV John. We ended up with bunches of standalone copies of John, Luke and Matthew, and Acts, as well as some combination epistles, from years of coaching Bible quizzing. They're all NIV, though.
Nice find! I would think Mark or Luke would be more accessible to someone not familiar with Christianity. The christology in John can get pretty deep, at least for my pea-sized brain.
That's a great point - it seems to me as well that another gospel may be more accessible, but when I checked it seems standalone copies of John are quite common and for Luke, not so much. That's something I'm going to think about next time I read through John, how it would read for a new believer. Thanks for commenting Scott!
I was just thinking the same thing while watching. I would recommend Mark or Luke. On the other hand, I was won over after reading Matthew's Gospel. It was a smart recommendation for a person with my foreground. Its original purpose/target audience was met. 😂
I started reading John last night. There are many wonderful sayings in it which are popular in Christianity. Maybe that's part of why it's recommended so much, but there are many challenging and deeply theological sayings as well! Mark seems a solid choice.

Very cool! I know the NIV used to be quite popular for Bible quizzing. Good choice for evangelism too, though not one I read myself.

I don't know why people recommend John to new believers. Its the hardest to understand and very repetitive. I'd go for Mark.

While my favorite Bible verse is John 3:16, my favorite Gospel is the book of Luke. Those are a great find though.
