Thank you for your exposition, Dr. Keener. I want you to know that I respect you very much and am very glad that you have started a TH-cam channel for bit sized theology. My question is what you do with when Jesus says, "I saw Satan falling like lightning from heaven." In my mind, I can't help but think that Jesus here is fulfilling the Law and the prophets by alluding to other language in the OT about these entities "falling from heaven." I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. Also, Merry Christmas! I hope you are blessed at the time we celebrate out Lord's birth!
This is so good! Where can I find the full video? :)
Thank you Dr. Keener. I love to listen to you.
Praise God 🎉🙏
The Dark Angel is here in this world which is our side, it is not on God's side anymore and we are trapped with it and basically those kings were power elites. That means that they performed magic using the same system that God uses except that it is on this side where Satan also exits in exile so basically they have no choice but to handle Satan and God will not help them to do that. It might even be true that all of the power on this side is Satan's power. It is all through the black or darkness which is related to the light or maybe can be turned into light. Obviously Satan is a very powerful Power Elite.
I greatly respect you Dr Keener, but that was a poor example in Psalm 82. No chance men are part of the "divine assembly." As for Isaiah 14, yeah it's absolutely about the king of Babylon, but I think the Oracle doesn't make a lot of sense if it's not a compare to some sort of divine being in the backdrop. I tend to lean towards Dr. Heiser's view here
Craif who do oyu think the free masons are refering to when they say they follow Lucifer.when you see celebrities swear to their God Lucifer do you think theyre worshipping a mortal or something that is only an object like the sun? grab some discernment
(Luke 10:18) "And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." Also see Revelation 12:7-9. The King James Bible is not the only Bible that translates hêylêl as Lucifer. The translation of hêylêl as "Lucifer" originated from Jerome’s Latin Vulgate (4th century), where "Lucifer" (meaning "light-bearer" in Latin) was used as a poetic rendering. You have to remember that many scriptures have both physical and spiritual meanings because the Bible is a supernatural book. Who is the (g)od of this world? 2nd Corinthians 4:4 and Ephesians 6:10-20. He is the one who rules the (g)ods, mention in Psalms 82, John 8:44, and 10:34.
Thank you Brother ...شكرا لك بروفيسو Voice from Syria
you're a holy man, God bless you
Lucifer is not his real name!
Congratulations 💐 wonderful I am glad you can hear Him.
Hello Craig, imho, by keeping Ezekiel 28:1-10, the "8th" of Revelation 17:11 indwelt by the Apollyon separate from who is Satan in Ezekiel 28:11-19 your presentation while very good would have been 'perfect'! Good job. Lauren
You can't understand god. He's beyond understanding, and you can't know what he's like
Your version of “god” sounds a lot like the ones depicted in Greek culture. The God of the Bible is both personal and relational.
Love the beard Dr Keener!
There would be nothing more fearsome as hearing the Voice of God. He speaks to us through His word and many Christians lost their faith from lies like this.
What is the lie?
Well done. Many scholars agree Is.14 is not talking about the devil. And even if it were his name is not Lucifer, thats nothing but church tradition, something we should all be cautious of. IS.14 AND Ez.28 are where most of our teaching about Satans fall come from. The Septuagint has a complete different read on who the cherub was. 28:14 Thou was WITH the cherub. Vs16 and the Cherub has brought thee out of the stones of fire. Many do not even kmow what the Septuagint is or why it was the most quoted by Jesus and the Apostle's.
@4:52 How cleaver, Lucifer fooled everyone into thinking he was the Morning Star. Revelation 22:16 " I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." I guess that means that Lucifer is "...the root and the offspring of David,..." Really? I guess words don't really mean things. Or perhaps my ears are being tickled.
Thank you for not going beyond what is written!
Isaiah 7:14 has a dual meaning, one meaning concerning people at the time of the prophecy and one being Messianic. Why could this passage that you are referring to not refer to both an earthly king and Satan?
Exactly that. All the prophecies work that way, even revelation. No clue why these preachers dont get it
Why would it? This would be an interpretation read into the text, removed from the original context in which it was written. What ensures that the Messianic, later interpretation is valid and true?
Isaiah 7:14 is later quoted by Matthew as Messianic. The verses that doctor Keener are referencing are not referenced elsewhere to my knowledge though.
Does Dr. Keener not believe that scripture can have a dual meaning?
Exactly.
Does Dr. Keener not believe in any dual meaning in prophetic scripture?
More to be said here. Isaiah 14 is about the king of Babylon and yet scholars think he is being compared to a fallen member of the divine court in heaven. Michael Heiser has made a strong case that the same thing is happening with the king of Tyre in Ezekiel 28. In a book like Ezekiel where the mundane and supramundane worlds are consistently collapsed with divine throne room imagery we should beware of reducing this edenic court passage to a mere rhetorical analogy.
Thank you, Craig. I maybe wrong but could this and Ezekiel be two examples of polyvalent Scriptures, where the plain reading in the immediate context (the peshat) refers to the king of Babylon in the former and the king of Tyre in the latter; and the midrashic pattern or recapitulation of prophecy allows for both to speak of the devil?
I think we already knew that in context it doesn’t refer to the devil. But the traditional claim is that also in some way the passage describes the fall of the angel that became the devil.
You got me with the thumbnail! LOL! That made my day. Thanks. 😂
Thank you again Dr Keener. And forgive me for going off topic, but great beard! More hidalgo than prophet haha!
Dr Keener, I agree that these passages speak about earthly kings. But they speak about them by comparing them to Satan and his fall from the Garden of Eden due to his pride. (Satan didn't want to serve Adam and Eve; he wanted to rule over them.) 1 Tim 3:6 tells the main reason for the condemnation of the devil - his pride. (Satan tempted Jesus by asking Jesus to worship him as God.) And that's the common theme in all these passages - God allowed a king to be exalted but then the king became full of pride and fell. Ultimately, Satan will be judged just like those kings were judged.
If there's a veiled reference, it could be Adam instead.
Thanks for posting these, Dr. Keener! I gather that you differ with the late Dr. Michael Heiser on Psalm 82. I would love to hear you walk through Psalm 82 and John 10:34 and simplify it for folks like me!
Craig Keener is highly underestimated. I’ve got his two volume book on miracles. It makes a brilliant case for Christ. Loaded with supernatural examples of healing. Thank you Craig.
C-Keen! This is awesome. Thank you, brother.
Lucifer is in the Vulgate 3 times, but in KJV only once.
It is amazing message.
The meme got a good laugh out of me - nicely done, editor. Great video, Dr. Keener! A very merry Christmastime to one and all!
"The earth is a sphere?" "Always has been."
Okkkk.
Dr Craig I think at 19:45 you have missed the "incongruity" - as per John Barclay - of the grace of Christ/God in raising us WITH Christ by saying "so it's because we're loyal to Christ because we are the body of Christ we are raised up with him now". Paul doesn't appear to be contrasting BEFORE and AFTER individual conversions, but before and after the Christ event. It does seem to assert we are saved together 2000 yrs ago without regard to any worth of ethnicity, ritual, or moral achievement when Christ was raised in that Easter morning. Always your student 😉 I guess I wanted to see you talk about the incongruity of grace.
the ending hahaa! so true
Thanks, Craig. I was asking God the other night about a career decision that needs to be made and this pointed me to ask myself what my motives should be for making that decision… it should not be just for money; it should primarily be for what skills I have in which I am confident in, in what I find joy in doing, and how I glorify God in these skills.
The context follows in verses 17-21 Scripture explains itself.
Thank you!
This was extremely encouraging!
Laodikea is still being excavated. Visited it last year. Beautiful place!
Just be careful Craig While I love learning the true meaning of scriptures Some of the things we take out of context are none the less true and provide much encouragement for many Also highlighting thus gives feed to those who would mock what a lot of people believe
Dr. Keener, haven't talked to you in a few years. Hope you are well! I was quite surprised to see you subscribe to the view that Laodicea had bad water. I thought it was well accepted that Koester debunked this, and archaeologists like Mark Wilson confirmed his work. Do you think they got it wrong and that the old theory about bad water still holds true?
Amen!
Brother you are insane. Nothing is worth 4500 pages
Dr. Keener was wearing a hoody coat at the beginning of this video. Then, towards the end of the video, it disappeared. Where did it go? Jesus said not to worry over food, drink, or clothing. Maybe Jesus didn't want Dr. Keener to worry over his hoody but instead to trust Him. Lol. 😊 Thank you so much for your wonderful brief Biblical expositions. It is nourishment to my soul.
We love you Craig keener
