Matthew 15:15-20 NASB1995 [15] Peter said to Him, “Explain the parable to us.” [16] Jesus said, “Are you still lacking in understanding also? [17] Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? [18] But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. [19] For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. [20] These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”
All you have to do is read the same story in Matthew 15 and it is clear that this is not at all about food laws. Furthermore one must ask the question what did Jewish people in Israel in the first century consider "food". Since that is the context in which Christ is speaking.
Thank you, brother. I have your NT commentary (2nd edition). I like it!

[15] Peter said to Him, “Explain the parable to us.” [16] Jesus said, “Are you still lacking in understanding also? [17] Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? [18] But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. If Jesus abolished the instructions of not eating unclean foods, doesn't that contradict Matthew 5:17?
