I remember the little Venice in Dalian. It was so lame!
Thanks for the Vlog! BTW, there were characters on the wooden post holding up the displays of ... Proverbs?.... wondered if what was on the post themselves was of any interst...
Thanks.
i pretty like your video, especially the Nantong cuz my wife is from there. YT has some algorithms to fulfil in order to garner more subsribers and views from your videos, a complete video requires prologue, bgm throughout the video, subtitle is a must, mixture of english and chinese words on the thumbnails and video titles with catchy phrases like enticing audience to open a blind box kind of vibes. just my observation and sharing, keep it up
I mean this channel is really underrated. Strange
Wow. A lot of memories. And again, hot; did you do this in spring/summer of 2024? I looked before at a globe, at the latitude lines, and the same line goes through Shanghai and over to New Orleans, LA in the U.S., so these cities are definitely in the hot zone (some of my relatives are in New Orleans, which isn't all that for from Cuba in the Carribean). I had never realized how far south Shanghai is, until I did this, because on the map, it doesn't seem like it is so far south. We were on the 9 twisted bridge on my first or second trip, but then we left because the line wasn't moving, and it was so hot that day. And I've been to City God Temple; I remember so many deities on the inside, and Li Juan prostrating down to pray and give reverence, I think maybe that one was to Buddha? (I know she is Buddhist). My first trip; I didn't know about anything, and we walked everywhere (no Metro), from Yu Gardens to the Bund, to Nanjing Rd, to Peoples Park and the Shanghai Museum, then back to Waitan and the Bund. I almost died (but, being a man, I did not want to show my fatigue, weariness, and distress; so I persevered on !! ). This last trip, we did not go to Shen Da Chen, but there was a similar (but smaller) place right in that area, that we went to. And this last time, I asked her to take me to Da Shi Jie (The Great World), because that seemed like an amazing place. But that was back in the older days, I guess. She tried to convince me that not much was there these days, but I still wanted to go. The building itself is impressive, at night, but she was right, not a whole lot is going on over there, these days. It's more of a place from yesteryear, and it's had it's day, but I later learned that the first casualties of the attack on Shanghai in 1937 occurred right there in front of Da Shi Jie, where a plane bomb blew a crater open out in the street out front, and damaged the structure, killing a lot of people. Also, up by the Peace Hotel, right across there, on the Bund, at the other hotel, that one was also bombed by plane in 1937...
Happy New Year 2025 Frank, yeah, it was filmed in Jul 2024. I believe you enjoyed your trip last year😉. Da shijie was an entertainment club during the 30's, but it's not popular now. Maybe there are too much other places in Shanghai for people to explore, so Da shijie is forgotten.
Wow, the crowds!
5:19 what a view
How is it so hot in late December? Is that freak weather or is an old recording?
Yo uncle mike I'm planning to study in hefei city thanks for the video
Enjoy it mate
4:33 lovely scene 10:24 maybe it has AC 😅
😅Merry Christmas!
Seeing so many people with their fan on hand to cool down, it must be terribly hot and humid, which is not comfortable to venture out in the day time!
Hi Mikey. Looks like a nice city to visit. The first place that you went, was way too busy. I liked the second place. China must be really hot in the summertime. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Bob!
everywhere is packed. Is it holiday season when you went there😮
Summer holiday season it was
I had always heard of Suzhou as a water town and all, so to see the modernity of this part of the city shows the changes from the times when you had first had visited. It's pretty impressive; almost like a rival to Shanghai (but I think I heard Vera say she that still prefers Shanghai to Suzhou). That heat seemed similar to Shanghai this last September; almost unbearable. And those massive crowds, everywhere. I could see on your faces that you both were just overwhelmed after a while, by the heat, but I think even more by the number of people everywhere, making not so easy at all to move from place to place. And the people crowding into the malls to avoid the heat: that was also Shanghai this last September. It was interesting to see actual Shanghainese; very used to crowds, stunned by such large numbers. Your zhajiangmian (one of my favorties) looked very good, and I liked how little Vera laughed when you said that she was REALLY enjoying her food!
I guess you understand how the heat and crowds were alike in China, haha
Great video. Sad that they demolished so much ancient architecture. I'm hoping to visit shangqiu next year. Cheers
Cheers mate!
@ChinaUncleMikey cheers and where do you live now
I live in Sweden
Been to this beautiful garden city at least four times and love it, but those days were much less tourists and no high rise buildings!
Your experience of suzhou is different from mine. It was over 10 years ago since I've visited and city was dead. Now it's people mountain and people sea.
China never wastes money . Because everyone has the best job in the world. Im a full time son earning 100,000 yuan a month. So this place is definitely not a waste . Some of the money trickles down to my pocket
Suzhou is better because the subway trains are newer and cleaner . Suzhou have many Lakes Suzhou has fresh air . Suzhou has many celebrities and many movie studios
I like your videos, you don't do like the Western propagandists who tell huge lies after huge lies so that they don't get sent back from China coz they are zeros in their country. These propagandists do a lot of harm to China coz even the Chinese don't believe them. Friendly.
Poor English
Really? Your statement proves that you don't even speak English. Han talar engelska bättre än du.
Good to see you back vlogging! But I am not too keen on those concrete buildings!
Simply awesome footage. The apartment towers in the fog, just amazing! I dare to say that this looks so unfamiliar to Westerners. The massive new cities being built, it is impressive. "Golden coast" made me chuckle 😃
😅Golden Coast + Silver Coast
its sad how much money went to support china's feudal lords
I know Mikey is trying his best to show us sth, tack så mycket från sverige!
wish you could do street interviews ! - I love to hear from the people living there ! :)
I believe it is illegal to interview ppl on street in China, that is why you only see street interveiw film released by China national media. I beilve Mikey said this before in other video or stream. I heard the same story from China Show as well. So I don't think he can do it as you expected.
@@mattiassvensson8203 ok. thanks for letting me know . I wonder how ASian Boss gets to do it.
@@DelroyJackson-s2j Asian Boss is just another form of propagandist but they act in a less invasive way. the interviewees are selected by at least the company who are running the show. these kind of companies are always controlled by the Gov
Very interesting for us Mikey, to see this Evergrande project. It is quite impressive in its massive size, but I noticed that there just doesn't seem to be many people at all, living there. For the size, you would expect to see way more people, just milling about the area. It seems to also have a lot of faux-European grandeur, with the various statues and decorations, I guess that is supposed to project fashion, or wealth (very Trump-like taste, Mar-a-Lago, which goes to show that you cannot buy class, no matter the wealth that you have, as we say here). I'd really like to see a face or two of one of these grandiose, European-style figures up close; because I kinda suspect that the face would be really neither Chinese, nor European, but just sort of a weird mishmash mush of a face (many time these Chinese copies of Versailles-like style look somewhat impressive from afar, but then they don't go so much into the fine details, like the face, lol... ). And those individual houses, also quite impressive (but again, not so many cars parked; maybe some people are at work, but.. ). It makes me wonder what kind of people live here, especially in the individual homes. Certainly, not the average Chinese, "man on the street" sort of people. These would have to be very "special" people, you might say. I think the whole world is waiting to see what becomes of this over-building, real-estate "bubble", in relation to a limited demand, and what it will ultimately bring to both the Chinese as well as the globally-linked world economies, in the longer run.
if Uncle Mikey ever decides to do videos outside of china too, i'd love to see peru and south america. sometimes when I see this deserted project it reminds one of how they say there were civilisations that disappeared and dwelling places were abandoned in places like south america.
less ppl live there, it's a dying place. the apartment close to the sea, the walls of these apartment are corroded by the humidity level in the area which cause stability issues
The apartment costs about 7000 rmb per sqm according to Baidu maps 恒大海上威尼斯
Those golden horses at the entrance are worth $8 Trillion dollars. You can scrape some of the gold at night.
interesting video from China, not the boring propaganda
Quite the opposite. China's economy has collapsed, thus very boring
@@dongshengdi773 boring for you, not for me
@@matrixgeno4481boring for all of us except you
@@dongshengdi773 so you are now acting like ccp trying to speak for everyone
@@matrixgeno4481 quiet guys. we're trying to watch the movie. lol
Fascinating great video Mikey.
Great content. Any chance to do a live stream over the holiday season?
I will try!
Great video idea! Do you know if the apartment blocks one could see around the project are a ghost town too?
Maybe by showing the real part of China people will like it again.
Lol everything you say is true but be careful. Chinese living in Sweden or not, the ccp hates negative speech, you're going to get re-educated. Otherwise thanks for the video.
The only use for the compound of European churches that I can imagine is that they were intended to be used as backdrops for wedding photos
Very interesting!
My work is on Chongming Island (other end) was there last week. Nice 👍
Now you know that you got a share of some of those billions of yuan
Hi Mikey. That was an interesting place, to go wandering around. It looks like a movie set. Nice music...
Glad to hear that you like it!
Your content is great you’re super underrated. I hope you get bigger!
Thank you mate!
Stay safe dude. I just saw on The China Show that unfortunate anger against society is spiking with those crazy drivers and shit.
Yeah, it's crazy
Thanks for your efforts. Sometimes, fortune is against us.
So true!😅 It's life
Oh no! Is that the last in this series of travelogues? It’s been wonderful following you on this journey.
Thanks for following up! the long distance trip away from shanghai is done for this year. Several excursions around Shanghai is coming but not that much. Waiting for 2025😅
Nyhavn is nice if rather touristy. Hope you feel better. The care of yourself.
Tack så mycket
I always had heard that Anhui Province was one of the more poorer provinces, but it didn't seems so much here, in Huinan. Maybe more in the more rural areas. I kind of liked how Hunan is quite developed, but not say on the scale of a Shanghai. And you had pointed out how the underground mall had only the Chinese brand name stores . The whole vibe was like with nice development, but without the congestion and mass population as in Shanghai. And therefore a little more relaxed, maybe. Kind of a combination of big city life, at a more small town-like level. I liked the little more laid-backness, here. Oh, and I tried riding a public bike in Shanghai, but I could not do it. Li said maybe I was just not used to these type of bikes, but I got on one, and the front wheel just seemed to go in any direction that it wanted to, on its own. Might have been a bad bike, or maybe it just was the user? ... 🤣
I dont think Anhui is a poor province, I made a video about Hefei the capital of anhui. Hefei saved me to eat better there(I went to Hefei from Henan Province)....
Your editing and your music choices with the various scenes are very good; you're getting pretty professional at this, Mikey! And those walls of Jingzhou are mighty impressive !! It makes me wonder who was the enemy in mind when they were built? Mongols, Manchus, warlords, regional powers, all of them? Whoever they were, the defenses were quite formidable. In 1453, the Ottoman Turks finally broke through the massive walls of Constantinople, that had withstood enemies for 1,000 years, and took the last vestiges of the Byzantine (Roman) empire, later renaming the city Istanbul. I thought of this, looking at those massive walls. When you had exited your hotel, it looked like the wall across the street had graffiti on it; which surprised me, in China. Maybe the writing was just information or directions, but it had a graffiti sort of look. And I know why you were running down the stairs for that drone; some old ayi down there sees it, and says; "now this is mine! "🤣 Hope you were eventually able to get it going again; looked like you might have lost a propeller...
I believe the wall used to agianst all the emenies, the barbican used to trap the invadors to shoot arrows. the graffitis on the wall are slongs for propaganda....😅
I'm German living in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 and China for over 30 years! Hahaha, I love this guy "Uncle Mickey"! 😂. Good that more and more people travel to the other side of the globe and share their experience. Toilets difficult to find and need 50cent for, everything is in German written, no one speaks English.....good experience! 👍 and that Kebab 🍢 looks absolutely awesome 👍 😎
😅Good to see you here, danke!~
