4:55 yes these houses definitely look charming. To me it is crazy how the whole area seems to be full of little rivers and streams. What time did they build it like this (assuming it is not natural)?
Taicang is a small but rich industrial town, would not call it tourist destination. Throwing money and big projects won’t change that - like the absurd Rothenburg copy or the sky resort. It’s a good place for local people to work and live though, close to SH and Suzhou. I prefer Suzhou or southern towns of Shanghai for old town flavor
On the outside it looks like an old Bavarian, Austrian or German town. It will probably never be finished anymore because of the collapse of Evergrande. The focus of the Chinese economy is in the process of shifting towards chip design/manufacturing, biotechnology, EV's and other areas because of the US sanctions. So the many abandonded projects probably will remain abandonded.
