    Protection of our Highland Bothy Shelters isn't a bad thing. Bothies are a Blessing and could save lives. Any serious hiker would understand the need for geographic privacy. 👣💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Our remote bothies have to be protected mostly and some bothies do need protection, care less bothy visitors leaving trash, graffiti, reckless damage, etc spoil it for other more serious hikers but safety n respect for the blessing of remote bothies matters wherever you go. Could save lives. Great video. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👣💙🙏

      Hello, absolutely fantastic been out in this a few times now and its as hard as nails haha. Been out in some windy conditions but maybe not 50 mph but that would have been a wild night for sure. I bought some patches to attach to the flysheet corners to pull the tent out a bit. Seen a couple of videos on that to stop the fly touching and give a little breathing space. I will do an up dated video on how that is pitched sometime. Steve 👍

    I had a very similar tent pole failure on my Berghaus Cairngorm tent. I replaced the alloy pole with a stronger fibreglass one and have had no problems since. Alloy is ok until it gets a shock load and then they just split 👍🏼

    • @Campingonthewildsidescotland
      @Campingonthewildsidescotland 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ahh thats the first time i have split a pole, very annoying and more so when i was i such an awkward place. I do have the Cairngorm tent also, i love it and just don't use it enough. My pole issue was that i couldn't get a pole sleeve up and over the split due to the join so need to come up with an idea to solve that haha. Lethal when it splits Steve 👍

      Thanks for the comment. The NC 500 Adventure was utterly amazing, it took a lot of planning but once on the go it was awesome. I had to check myself over every night for Ticks which i wont lie were just about every day and even more so were midges in the forests and some evenings they kept me in the tent they were that bad. I did have the small tick removing tool and creams to apply for bites, also had midge spray and net which were so important and a must have for Scotland. Amazing scenery and views and the beaches up that way were tropical. Well worth a good road trip or visit. Steve 👍

I really do need to do more podcasts, you have encouraged me to do them haha. I would have to say Bothies here in Scotland are fantastic, you would love them. I totally understand the confidence thing and thats only natural because you are alone and in a different setting so you could research some bothies and also go with someone which would make it a better feeling for you. The mountain bothies association is really good for advice and maybe reach out to them and see if any of there maintenance people are heading out to one at any point so you are with a n=more experienced person to give you advice and safety in a way. Where are you based about?, you also never know you might do your own podcast and video of your experience. Steve 👍

      @Campingonthewildsidescotland หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Well thank you for stopping by great comment, Kayaking the Great Glen looks fantastic and what a totally different view you will get so hats off. Yeah i actually had just cycled the NC 500 stopped a couple of nights in Inverness and then cycled the great Glen. It was a slitter trying to find the paths getting out of Inverness as you wind through housing schemes of new built houses which i got lost but as you get out and onto the more woodland areas its fantastic. So many potential camping spots so as long as you have water and food you can find a pitch anywhere. So glad you got something from it i loved it, there was a couple of diversions but if you are planning it you might get an update about them from the Forestry etc. Some tough bits for the bike but overall what a beautiful trail. Wish you the best on it. Steve 👍

    Nice one Steve, looked like U really enjoyed that, I thought maybe could have put the packet back in Jetboil pot after adding water, to keep it extra hot & cook better/quicker or keep it hot if U didn't want it immediately... Cheers Kev yeah it actually was good, most of these meals i do like its the expense of them if you eat breakfast lunch and dinner so i kind of spread them about as to where i camped where to have them. I probably could have put it back in the jet boil i think it was tall enough to put it in, seen some folk put it down there top or in there jacket to keep warm in the winter months. The down side to carrying these types of meals is that they can take a good bit of water, like some are 450ml and if you have one bottle full then most of that is now gone. so many be a couple of water bottles may be needed. Everybody has a food stash Dave haha so when the camping day comes its all ready. I do like to try new stuff and mix meals about and other days i just like plain old noodles as you know where you are with them. I will need to plan ahead as what to take for my next one might try that salmon one cant remember if i have tried that one or not. Steve 👍

    Hi Steve. Blimey venison in a camp meal, that is posh nosh! 🤣 These warm camping meals are the perfect pick me up after a long day on the trail aren’t they? I just admit I’ve never heard of that brand Hope you’re keeping well mate, all the best. 😀🥾🤣🏕️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

      I love venison Dave a really good meal and have to agree a good pick me up. Most are pretty straight forward to make but others are a slitter and the writing on the back is so small its actually so hard to read they just need a picture of what to do rather than word and in so many different languages. I do like these meals it can just be a bit expensive to buy many. A posh meal indeed haha felt like a king eating it. There are so many of these meals on the marker and its difficult to say what they are like it all down to personal tastes. But doing grand, my brother was at me for going away on a 3 day hike up North so need to find the time. Cheers again Dave Steve 👍

    Hi steve , ive read if you buy a extra footprint , you can pitch the outer first to the footprint , in case of heavy rainfall. And then plug on the inner tent so the problem should be solved . Thats what i read online . Hopefully it work out for you . Continue your great works Steve .

      Haha yeah a little to much, i do like a tent. It opened my eyes a bit and time to let a few go as i will never use them. I had this planned for a long time and a short window came up to get the use of the field so now or never just a shame the wind was a bit strong but got there. I haven't used the Helm 1 maybe need to look into that one. Planed trip way up North for a couple of day in a week or two with my daughter Charlie to summit camp and hoping for good weather so got that to look forward to. Hope things are well your end 👍 Steve 👍

    The Galloways is a place where I cut my teeth as a boy wild camping with two pals. Now after 50 years we have reconnected and we are planning a return in our old age. We have common ailments such as arthritis and I have had quadruple heart bypass surgery but we will sit around the campfire like the four Yorkshiremen in monty python and enjoy this wonderful part of Scotland once more

You have been some fighter which i take my hat off to you and with you the best of health thats a great story to hear, you are a hardy fella. It sure is a lovely part and in a way not to strenuous to get around, great roads and tracks all around and through the whole area. Keep up the good health James and wish you all a safe and pleasant catch up around that fire. Thanks for sharing your memories. Steve 👍

    kinda funny way the the single hoop tents went in and out of fashion. Still got my wildcountry solo. Best thing about these tents is the huge door great for sitting in and chilling at night time. Midge depended

      Haha yeah its a funny old world, maybe the old styles are coming back.So simple and design works well with one pole. Its a great wee tent and great to sit in and watch the world go by. If the midges are out the net works well at still having good ventilation and keeping the views. Its a little tent i really do like. Thanks again Steve 👍

    I just received one of these after selling my long serving Hubba Hubba. Well covered angles with close ups, good video. There is, I believe a way of setting this up flysheet first using the supplied footprint. I will soon try it.

      Its my go to tent, i think its fantastic it has enough room and the vestibule area is a perfect size. Someone did comment on how to put the fly up first so i tried it and its way to much hastle and awkward so i cant see myself perusing that method unless i actually see someone building it that way. If MSR actually make it so the fly goes up first then that would be a perfect tent for myself as i love it. Thanks for the positive feedback and glad it helped. Cheers Steve 👍
