Put nos tubes in it!
I've still got my JC-77. It replaced my JC-120 that i bought new the first year it came out. I saw and heard it at a (don't ask what year) Honolulu new products show and was, of course, blown away with the chorus. I loved the JC-120 but it was too heavy and the chorus has noticeable "hiss" when engaged. Interestingly, the chorus controls on the two amps are different. My JC-120 only had the switch which changed it from (fixed) chorus, off and tremolo. My JC-77 doesn't have the tremolo but the chorus rate and depth are adjustable. I rented out the 120 a couple times to a staging company once for James Taylor and later The E Street Band. Taylor's steel guitarist used it and the piano player for Springsteen used it for his Fender Rhodes. I eventually sold the 120 and got a 77 which was plenty loud for bars & clubs yet easier & smaller to load. It's quieter than the 120 too. But the the distortion on both amps never impressed me. I rarely use it now having graduated over the years to Fenders, Voxs and a Mesa Boogie Mk IV.
@@slowlane2518 I use mine still quite often, it's an amazing amp. I really love the chorus on the 77 better than the 120 it's lush and full. I'd love to buy another one and have 2
I would agree using traditional tuner is faster and this thing is probably of no use to an experienced musician. But for me as an intermediate player I do find some uses like being able to store alternate tunings. Also, I have never once broken strings while tuning after I got the Roadie 3. It's still not essential and just sits in my drawer, but when I change strings, or go to alternate tunings, it comes handy.
I ordered one that looks just like that one I’ve been going through videos to see if it’s any good and after watching this makes me excited for it
Been playing my 76 D25M since I bought it new. #113648. Wore out original tuners, had Grovers installed. I've been using Martin Retro's evev since they were available.I like the sound much better, and other players said the same thing. This is one that will never be sold, but kept in the family! Pickalongpete
This was one of John Abercrombie’s choices of amps for both studio work & live gigs. Can’t argue with that. Lots of keyboardists use it, too. I wonder how it works with a good Leslie sim pedal.
Good job dude i like playin that one 2
Thanks for the demo.😊 Will be staying with a friend who has one - so looking forward to trying it out !
I think you're gonna love it. It's been one of my favorites for a very long time.
Never knew Rhoads had a hand in Jackson’s birth. So sick!!
It is pretty awesome. Especially considering Wayne charvel is still making guitars in California
I love my matte black minion, my king Vs lil bro lol
It's one of the few Vs I actually enjoy playing it feels normal but is smaller and it just screams
Fender hasnt owned Guild since 2014. Sold to Cordoba. 2023 Cordoba bought by Yamaha
@@richardpierce7168 very true fender bought guild in '95 the sold in 2014 which all guilds were made in the Tacoma factory starting in 2004
What’s funny is the Chinese Guild Gad 20 is all solid mahogany, I believe.
Only Video that helped me thank u so much!!!!!
You are very welcome!! I appreciate that. It drove me crazy how insane this was to setup so I had to make this video
I just acquired a nearly new JC22...fantabulous amp ! I am using an extremely old school Vox Stomplab pedal into the front end and although I never played shoegaze before, this amp and the ambiant effects of the Stomplab, rotary, trem, Flanger...all sound fabullus thru the dual speaker setup. It has pushed me in different directions from my usual blues inspired riffs...although they sound pretty decent too !
I was wondering if the 22 sounded good. I keep looking at them and going I should buy one. How's the volume? I don't play super loud anymore but it is fun to have some volume to crank up it you want.
@@garrettsguitarden Plenty of volume...really not much difference up to about 6 on the dial to a JC40. At home playing up close 2 or 3 is all I need.
@@tonray9395 I think I will have to pick one up. The JC series has always been a favorite of mine. I picked up a Peavey encore 65 tube amp that I can't stop playing through lately it sounds so good with a strat.
@@garrettsguitarden same for me with a Yamaha THR10C I just picked up. Always wanted one but never wanted to pop $500 ..then they were discontinued. This one 8 years old just turned up on FB. Greatest little amp I've heard. The JC22 stays in the living room and the Yamaha THR10C gets the bedroom.
I Love my slammer tele. Ain't nothin like it.
It's a tank of a guitar with an amazing sound also the value is almost unbeatable. I'm glad to hear someone else still has one.
Well done sir.
Thank you!

JC-77 is complete MAGIC! I had one for many years and totally regret selling it.
It really is a magnificent amp.
I too have a '77, my girlfriend's grandfather bought it new and played it regularly until he passed and now i've played it daily for the past 3 years. There's a richness in tone that comes out of this guitar that i haven't found in many other acoustics. Whenever i visit a friend and play a little on theirs, I'm always left a bit unsatisfied. Fell in love with this guild immediately the first time i played it.
I am the same way when I play other people's acoustics too. I had a Taylor 814ce deluxe for awhile and kept this over that. It just didn't have the warmth and sound like the guild. I'm glad to see another one around it truly is a guitar that makes me smile and want to play.
I have a 1967 F30 Sunburst, mahogany back and sides and 1992 D4 NT, spruce top, mahogany sides, arch mahogany laminate back. Love them both. Am looking at a 1977 D25 cherry but it's kind of worn and is going for $600, It does have a pickup added. I think they want extra for the case too. I don't know if the neck is in good shape either. If I can talk them down, maybe I'll be able to get it. Yours sounds great!
I love mine. It's the acoustic I always pick up and play. It sounds great and plays so well that I can't see playing a different one. mine has a repaired crack around the soundhole and does not hurt it at all. also its been heavily played and has the wear to show it, again doesn't affect it at all possibly made it better because it has that played in feel.
I have a D25M with fitted pickups. Sounds full and rich. The pickups are small white dots on either side of the pegs. It's a 1977 model, number 161080
I'd love to see how that pickup system works. that sounds awesome without ruining the look of the guitar. I haven't put one in mine because I can't bring myself to drill a hole in it.
How do you feel about it having chorus only, do you wish it had vibrato?
@@RobertNolan I actually don't. I don't use much vibrato, I tend to do that with my fingers. I will plug a delay pedal into it here and there and it suits my needs very well.
@@garrettsguitarden I've been considering this or the JC-40, but the JC-40 is all digital. Not bad I think, just prefer analog.
I actually want a jc40 pretty bad. An amazing little amp. It sounds amazing and still has that jc sound it's just newer and probably a little more reliable to be honest. Then again I have been using my Randall rg100 half stack for the past couple months and I love that old thing. It's a crushing amount of power in a dead reliable build.
@@garrettsguitarden got the Jazz Chorus, wow I've got no regrets at all about this one.
That is awesome! I've always been super happy with mine. I'm glad you enjoy it. I would've felt bad if you didn't since sound is pretty subjective to people. How's the volume on that one? Get pretty loud?
Hi Garrett your giving out misinformation, My Guild collection are all the arched back and consists of a 1979 D25 spruce top /mahogany , a 1974 G37BLD spruce top /maple, And a 1973 D25Cherry all mahogany, The main thing you're leaving out is that your 77 has a fat neck and is heavier than the 73 and 74. Furthermore the transition from the All mahogany braced back to the all Mahogany arched back was not early 1973 but was actually in October of 1973. That guitar was only produced for the last 90 days of 1973 that's the model I have. The heavier fat neck D25M spruce/mahogany started 1/1/1974
My D25m does not have a fat neck. Its actually pretty slim compared to most. And from all I've read guild actually did the transition to the arched back early '73 in all documents I've found and read. I'd like to know what you mean by fat neck. The heel? Or the actual neck? I did a ton of research before making the video on the d25m. If I got it wrong that is my fault.
I have a 72 all solid wood and an early 80s arch back and the.necks are both the same.
Nice video. I have a D25M from the early 80s, that I bought two years ago. Sounds very similar to what I'm hearing out of of yours. It has the LR Baggs Anthem SL installed, which does a really nice job for live performance.
I would really like to install one on mine, I just don't want to drill a hole in the old thing. I usually use a Seymour Duncan woody and it picks the natural sound up pretty well. I play it most of the time in small groups or by myself. It's an absolutely fantastic guitar.
Wow. It looks like it controls a LOT. Are you still using this keyboard and are happy with it?
@@KordTaylor I do still have this one and another one. I have been pretty happy with it. I changed because I wanted one with weighted keys but keep this around because it works so well
Great video! Thank you. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for checking it out and leaving me a comment
i got one coming in the red color i have had Glarry guitars before the are good to make into a very good guitar if you know how to do it i have a Gearit telecaster just like the Glarry that i put p90s in and it turned out pretty good too love messing with these guitars
They can be made into a beautiful playing guitar I've done it with a couple now. This one absolutely could not without major modification. It was unplayable out of the box. The nut was not cut right and the neck had a decent twist on the high side. I would've kept it and modded it if it wasn't so bad right from the start. I actually have a glarry lp I modded to hell and back with locking tuners, upgraded hardware and SD blackout active pickups. It actually had a full sustainer kit in it for fun at one time.
Newbie here. Actually just got a lx61+ free. Trying to set it up. Did the whole first process. Now stuck at the pro tools. Downloaded everything on avid and nothing works. All the pro tools downloads are expensive. Any way to play this thing without spending money? I’m not a musician, just wanted to play around with this
Protools has a free version that lets you use up to 8 tracks of recording on the website. I mainly use Reaper for a DAW anymore because it's super cheap and works amazing.
I wonder how different the JC-40 is from this amp. I played the 77 today and it sounded incredible! The distortion didn't work very well. It cut out after some time playing it. The condition wasn't so great and the store wanted $675. I could get the JC-40 brand new for about that price.
As far as I know the jc40 is the same amp just scaled down with 2-10s and a stereo 40 watt amp. So it should sound really close. I say go try one out I'm sure you'll like it!
I had a JC-77. It is a clean tone amp but just a little sterile for me. Dont get me wrong you dont have to worry about tubes..... I sold it and got a Fender vibrolux reverb which i modified removing the circuit board and wiring it with a eyelet board. I was shooting for warmth. A lot of famous bands used them in the 80s and 90s. Keep it. I sometimes wonder I should of kept mine. If you can locate Roland output chips buy them in case of failure...... thanks.....
It's definitely a keeper for me. I haven't had many issues with it. I do want to perform the anti hiss mod to it but a little nervous about messing with its tone. Lately I've been using my Randall rg100 half stack a lot and the JC has been sitting under its cover though.
Turned my nose up at them for many years as they were not valve amps, 1980's crappy cheap amps. I played a JC-40 at a local guitar store as it was what they had in the practice room. I never left the shop with the guitar that day, but left with a JC-40. I sold my Fender 65 Twin. The JC-40 covers all my needs. What an amp.
I love the JC series it has the most headroom of any amp I've ever owned. And honestly between valve and solid state it really doesn't make a difference to me anymore as long as it has a pleasing sound to my ears. I have been on a 5 watt valve amp kick lately and really even at 5 watts they are insanely loud for a room amp. The JC I can still control the volume. You have the amp I'd like to own the 40 is the next JC I'd like to buy
Thanks for a great vid!! Have you done a shoot-out between your 77 and a 40?
I have I just haven't wanted to cash out 700 new or around 4-500 used to get a jc40. Honestly I feel they would be pretty close other than the 40 has vibrato built in which would be a cool effect to have sometimes
I had that exact NJ series Mockingbird. Really miss it
My good friend has this one now, he loves it. It was a great guitar. Played excellent and looked just killer
great video, on a newer computer i7 can get all but the transpose play stop etc won't work.
The only thing I could think of is that you have to choose what mode it's in from the keyboard itself so that certain buttons work. It usually isn't in mixer mod. I think it's usually in pad mode. Also try turning the impact off then back on before you are in protools
My auto tune guitar's the same. Just get snarky.
I use my daddario 360 all the time and have a couple snarks. It was just kinda crazy to me that it has all these 5 star reviews that it works so well and it doesn't
I got me a d25 sb 1984! The guy I bought from added a fishman pick up. I didn't mind, but it sounds beautiful. I love using a pick to make her really shine. I bought a 1970 2520 case and fits like a glove.
That is awesome man! I really love mine and all of its character. It has one of the best sounds for what I play that I couldn't imagine replacing it. I hope you get a lot of years of enjoyment out of that good ole guild.
It’s an awesome guitar. I really enjoy my black one! Great video!!!
Thank you! It is an awesome little player. Acoustic wise I've been playing the little gretsch gin rickey and what an amazing little thing it is too
Dad had a Kustom 250 plush (70's)
The old tuck and roll one? Those are awesome amps, big heavy and tons of tone. The blue sparkle one is on the amps I want to aquire someday.
Right on bro - Good find!
It's such a good player
Next steps?
If you check my other shorts I have a video of it finished
Awesome channel name!
Thanks I thought it would be fitting
Sorry, I am going in hard to learn to play this thing, I'm just turning 74!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!
That is awesome! You're never too old to learn.
I JUST bought one of the e for $80 with a Trainer Guitar Mate15
It's a fantastic guitar with a little setup work. I preferred it to my fender I had. I hope you enjoy it!
Indeed. The coolest guitar. I have 4 mockingbirds, two STs ( with better pickups) and two special X's ( also with better pickups) . They like Les Paul on steroids. And either you love that shape or not. To me, its my favorite shape.
I have found them a fantastic guitar to have something different around to play. They are like a Les Paul on steroids and the headstock doesn't behead itself which is always a plus.
Great guitar and great history , enjoy your family and your guitar 😀👍👍
Thanks, I'm actually going to redo this video this year. Zulu the artwork creator sent me all the sketches and some more info on how he came up with the design of it.
thanks man
No problem!
I remember seeing those Flat 4 boost pedals in Sweetwater catalogs back in the day, and always wanted to try one. Do you use it regularly?
The flat 4 is fantastic. real nice old style boost that just pushes any sound over the top without being too much. I've had a few of the vox pedals over the years and most of them have been really good. easy way to change the tone slightly is to change the tube in it real quick.
Nice video. Thanks. Have you done the less hiss noise mod?
I haven't yet. I did read up on it and it looks like it cuts a little bit of volume which is fine on this amp it's plenty loud. I should try it
I have one of these. I've had it from new. It's a keeper and sill immaculate.
I love this guitar it's been my favorite since I got it. sustains for days and will push any amp into overdrive. I'm actually going to redo this video this year with some updates from Zulu. He sent me over the sketches for the artwork on the guitar and a little more info on how he came up with the design on it.
I'm going to give the secret to get the jc distortion: get the guitar volume top in 10 max, then turn the amp volume in the less necessary, now get the distortion amp pot in your like, then your going to get a blues over drive or a one to play alternative or hard rock or punky level of it.
The JC has been one of my favorite amps of all time. I play a lot of country style bend licks and the amount of clean headroom is amazing on it, or I use a touch of gain to give that spicy dirty country blues sound. It is honestly one of the greatest amps ever built.
I have a 77. I use manual chorus at 9 o'clock. Use the distortion midway adds more bass. Play blues jams. Have distortion pedals works just great
Great amp! Been using my fender cybertwin a lot but the 77 still hangs out as one of the best I own
