Kate Rusby - Sweet Bells
Bit of a rush job - Kate Rusby singing her own version of an old Yorkshire carol.
With thanks to Placidplace, ItalianWallArt_com and tommyvideo for the video clips - all to be found on the excellent Pixabay site.
"While shepherds watched their flocks by night
All seated on the ground
The angel of the Lord came down
And glory shone around
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
They cheer us on our Heavenly way
Sweet chiming bells
Fear not, said He
For mighty dread had seized their troubled minds
Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
They cheer us on our Heavenly way
Sweet chiming bells
To you in David's town this day
Is born of David's line
The Savior who is Christ the Lord
And this shall be the sign
Sweet bells, Sweet chiming Christmas Bells
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
They cheer us on our Heavenly way
Sweet chiming bells
They cheer us on our Heavenly way
Sweet chiming bells
All glory be to God on high
And to the earth be peace
Goodwill henceforth from Heaven to men
Begin and never cease
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
They cheer us on our Heavenly way
Sweet chiming bells
While shepherds watched their flocks by night

How do you do it David Harris? Each piece of art flowing just like the music does. Thank you
Merry Christmas,David Harris!Your channel is one of my ultimate favorites!❤
Happy Christmas to you Thea. I'm glad you enjoy the channel. Best wishes.
I get the feeling that the people here, so well depicted by George Clausen, were real people of rural England that he caught in a moment of their daily struggles to live off the unforgiving land. We see them here through his eyes as he skilfully captured their strength, sheer determination and inherent beauty. It shines through his pictures, as freshly today as it did, though separated as we are across the century or more that divides us.
Hey Merry Christmas David Harris! This reminds me of The Shamrock and Thistle, which recently sadly left the airwaves. We have been settling and working on the new house for 6 months now. Lots of painting, gardening, and decorating. Just finished the first Christmas here. Best of the holidays to you and yours, and happy 2025 if I don't speak to you again.
Hi Deborah, glad to hear you are getting on well in your new house. Merry Christmas to you and your family and I wish you a Happy New Year.
GAWD!, what a beautiful piece! ❤ And those paintings, stunning! 😍
Thank you Mr. Harris! Merry Christmas 🎄☃️
Happy Christmas to you too Raini. Best wishes.

Merry Christmas morning David Harris. It’s a foggy one here in New Mexico but the Bright cheerful piece along with the Summertime paintings let the sun come out. Blessings to you and yours Sir. Thank you
Happy Christmas to you and yours John, hope you have a lovely day.
@ thank you Sir
Well done again David Harris. Were it not for your good self and others like you, and the wonder of TH-cam, Great music like this would be lost forever. The accompanying photographs and paintings are the equal of the music. Puting them together was masterful.
Glad you are finding a few videos you like Stewart, and thanks for the kind comments.
The artist here is the equal of the composer. Each lifts the other to another level. Putting them together was masterful.
❤Merry Christmas...dear friend Mr. Harris...may baby Jesus bring you much hope for something good, work, good health, peace!🎈✨🎄👏🏻👏🏻🎀🎶🥂🥂🐑🤗❗Sincerely from the bottom of my heart...🎄✨🥂🎀🐑....❤And be happy.. Cheers....🥂🍾......Malena

It is difficult to accept that the paintings here are not photographs, as they have been linked inextricably by the skill of David Harris to the this magical melody by Vaughan Williams. Perfection.
Another beautiful video David Harris. Each piece of art complimenting Gustav Hoist’s music. Would you happen to know if the Cross is actually there on the moores or added by Lewis Creighton? Either way it adds a somber feeling of joy. Thank you Sir.
It's on the North York Moors and, I believe, is known as Young Ralph's Cross.
@ I love history and reading of new places around the world. Thank you so much David Harris for indulging me.
I just love this music, and the artwork really adds to it. In fact, I've just bought a print of Colin W Burns. Thank you for posting.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed the video Matt.
Look like real, extraordinary.
My mom was born in 1936 sometimes I think that I was born 30 years or so to late I love this music the era when women dressed like ladies the 50’s clothing I’m obsessed 😍
You almost step back in time and be there throughout the seasons ,quite a lifting piece with shades of melancholy, beautiful piece of music.
Rest in Peace George Butterworth your beautiful music lives on through folks like David Harris and his wonderful videos. Thank you David Harris.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it John.
@ if you don’t mind me asking, what part of the world are you from?
Born in the south of England and living in the north of England now - so English through and through. Cultures may differ, but people are basically the same wherever.
@ yes sir. I was born in Illinois and raised in Southeast New Mexico. My Father always said I was the only Yankee in the Family. Have a blessed afternoon and Holiday season.
I searched and searched and I finally found it David Harris. Thank you Sir.
It's a lovely carol, glad you enjoyed it John.
@ yes sir, I’ll be sending it out to my family come Christmas morning. Thank you.
Another pairing that really fits. The ominous melancholy music with a backdrop full of ominous cumulus clouds. Beautiful video David Harris.
I knew of Harold Darke, primarily because of his treatment of Christina Rossetti's poem "In the Bleak Midwinter", but James Lynch was a pleasant discovery a few years ago - one of those serendipitous moments. Glad you enjoyed it.
@ your videos give me so much to ponder and research I appreciate you Sir have a blessed evening.
@ I had to look up “The Bleak Midwinter” what a beautiful poem. The title had me expecting something so different. Thank you Sir.
Thank you David Harris this was a beautiful after service treat. Fine music and fine art, always a blessing.
Glad you enjoyed it John.
Good Sunday morning David Harris. You are now popping up on my feed. Woo Hoo for me. Thank you Sir for so many beautiful videos.
Morning to you too John, although it's mid-afternoon here. Hope you avoided a headache this morning.
@ I slept 5 hours straight last night and woke up feeling great. About to head out to Church. Have a blessed afternoon David.
How underplayed are so many of our composers. A lovely, serene peaceful piece.
I’ll be seeing you ❤ too❤
Thank you for this wonderful song.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it.
I am a moon child. I am in awe of how it affects me and the rest of this beautiful planet. This piece is beautiful. Thank you David Harris.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it John.
To anyone who hasn't seen it, please check out The Man In A Hat, this is featured as well as some other beautiful music. I defy anyone to watch this film and not want to go to France immediately.
David Harris these pieces of Beautiful Music and Beautiful Artwork on your videos have captured my heart. I found the first one yesterday and now I am looking for more. Thank you Sir
Pleasure, glad you're enjoying the channel John.
@ yes Sir I subscribed this morning looking forward to catching up on what you have published already.
Perfect piece for a Saturday morning headache. Beautiful pics beautiful music and an ugly headache.
今のフランスの混沌を止めるには、風土の原点を顧みるべきだ。オーヴェルニュの風に乗せて羊飼いの男女がのどかに謳う。繋がる意志が第一!
The paintings are by English painter Collin W. Burns. They really set well with this piece. Somber yet elegantly crisp like I believe the air would be in those scenes. Awesomeness
Why cant all Opera singers sing like this. I hate the screeching and straining that makes them all sound like grannies.
war is hell.
Mina was his pet dog. Such a lovely nostalgic piece for his family pet.
The whole piece hangs on that clarinet at the start.
Without doubt one of the most touching songs I heard in my lifetime. A beautiful expression of everything that makes life so special.
I once worked in conservation on the broadlands. The paintings and the music blend perfectly to capture their mystique and beauty, moves me deep in my soul.
I always associate RVW with 'the Golden Age of British Cinema' 1940s to '50s, Ealing Comedies, Powell and Pressburger and Gainsborough costume dramas. And the feeling of optimism after the Victory of '45 and the 'Now Win the Peace' optimism. I have always let this wonderful piece of music conjure up images of a serviceman or airman or sailor back with his girlfriend/fiancee/young wife walking across a sunny harvest landscape, taking in the views, stopping off at locations to refresh or make love, say in the hay or in the shade of a tree. While church bells ring in the background, a fair can be heard or even Morris dancers entertain locals and visitors. So English...but in the best kind of way
This is such a wonderful collection to accompany the beautiful carol. I’ll enjoy this every Christmas season.
The rural scenes by Sir George Clausen are just perfect!
They certainly are. Someone meticulously searched and made a beautiful and thoughtful slide show. Beautiful music and fine art. I feel I’m gettin above my raisin. With this one.
OK, I have listened to this again and it even beats the great Tiri Te Kanawa. Brava Netania!
I love this song and have heard a few versions - the first time about 50 years ago in the advertisement for Dubonnet. That one does not sound so great now that I have heard it sung by the likes of Victoria de Los Angeles, Kiri Te Kanawa, etc. This version is up there with the best of them. It's strange, my eyes seem to water every time I hear it! Thank you so much for posting and I hope more of the world gets to know this as a result.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it Mike. It's a beautiful piece of music.
❤ 😊
It is wonderful, especially at this time of year, to see again these paintings whilst listening to this Christmas carol. Thankyou David with season’s greetings for this time of year & hope that you are keeping reasonably well for us retirees.
Glad you are still listening Juan. Season's greetings to you and yours too, I hope you all have a very happy Christmas. Best wishes, David
Just divine, I've always loved Elgar's beautiful music with all my heart. ❤
I remember as a kid with the war on listening to this song 🤣 by the greatest of singers Jo Stafford
Seasons greetings to you and your family David, my you be blessed in many ways. Thank you for your posts for this year. Lee.
Hi Lee, season's greeting to you and yours too, I hope you all have a very happy Christmas. I haven't put up many videos this year, I've started doing volunteer conservation work and just don't seem to get the time. I'll try and do better next year. Best wishes, David
Hi David, I've started some volunteer preservation work myself, I'm doing some engineering work at a local preserved steam railway.
Hi Lee, sounds interesting, most of us are "Railway Children" at heart.
