This evening, in my study, I have come across this gorgeous piece by Finzi accompanied by beautiful photographs. The music is both poignant and haunting. I am instantly transported back thirty years when life was a combination of daily long walks, exploring the Briitish countryside, and evenings of good music. Thank you so much, David Harris, for putting together this video and others of yours that I must listen to/view.
How Finzi's music so often unintentionally revives old feelings and emotions which we feel were gone - especially regarding people who have meant so much to us, but who alas can be in a time-warp , even though they have changed in our current view of them. Sometimes this isn't always for the better, yet Finzi somehow captures the emotions of our former perceptions of them. often in a bittersweet way.
I can't describe the feelings I feel when watching this. It takes me to a place filled with memories and lov, really tugs at my heart. I can't describe it. It is very very special. Thankyou.
The last 2 years I have become enamored of Delius, Vaughan Williams and Finzi. At 71 and in the Autumn/Winter stage of my life this music speaks to me. Makes me very nostalgic, longing for a simpler time. All is good, but there's a small bead of melancholy inside that asks, "what next". I do love the visual beauty but can listen and love the music without it.
So have I! and I'm about to see my 75th birthday! What next, indeed. I keep telling myself that I should continue to seek knowledge, adventures and good relationships. I should put into practice what I've learned over the years, and not dwell on the short time I have ahead, but just live it according to the best principles. In addition to your favourites I would include Ruth Gipps, Florence Price, John Taverner Debussy and Ravel. My absolute favourite has to be Finzi, though, as it speaks to my own time. Thank you Barbara for letting me see that we are not alone in whatever melancholy feelings lovely music and the passing of time might evoke.
@@alisonmorgan2515Absolutely, we are not alone. I have many friends asking the same question. One purpose, besides helping with my 2 young grandsons, is I've been working Lunch/Recess at the same Elementary School my family and my son went to. I cannot tell you the love I feel for these kids, especially the Jr High. I am Miss Barbara, and a bit of a task master but they know how much I care. Such love I feel from them. They know the rules and if I need to, I do get on them. I attend their games too and hope to go back next year because I love the 7th grade. After that, we'll see. The 6th graders are not my favorites. 🥰
Hard to say which is more moving... pictures or the music. The reality for me is, they must always go together. As has been so beautifully done here. Thanks.
David, wonderful landscape for the mind. I am fortunate to walk in woods almost this lovely on a daily basis. The arch with colors is similar to a photo I shot this past fall in the woods I wander in. Traversing the universe on an ordinary day. Next time the music will have to accompany my walk. Just gorgeous and dramatic.
Soft fallen leaves now pave the way ahead through England’s ancient woodland roots. And gentle shadows cast their eerie light between the burnished golden rays. Alongside the woodland tracks, once lofty trunks now silent lie where the sweet birds did sing and wind did daily stir their limbs. Through long Seasons’ past, enduring rains and snow, tall trees withstood the storms until at last their time had come. Felled in moments that which had taken a hundred years or more to form. Lie silent, all now spent and lifeless. And Evening shadows creep relentless to surely run their course, drawing darkness close behind them till fixed in night’s cold embrace.
Thank you +David Harris What a beautiful peaceful musical page and autumn lights. Take good care of yourself and all those you love who will surely reward you.
