    The zipper exercise: "Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?" Ralph was holding the glass of wine with two hands, his head leaning down just enough that he could take a sniff of the red liquid. Just a sniff, then he pulled back and sighed. "Thou art more lovely and more temperate." His gaze met with the one of his reflection's in an infinate staring competition. He bended over the glass, kissed it and tilted it. The wine slid down his throath. He inhaled the aroma of his breath. Hot. Staggered. A slight smile. A fazed gaze. A dazed gaze. A dead gaze. "Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines..." A candle flame was only lit. Illuminated the livingroom. Illuminated all the dark-glassed bottles laying on the floor and on the table, dried up. Illuminated the bills for them. So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. Ralph was asleep.

    Money and the fame would be a bonus. I want to write and publish because...well...i want to. Simple as that. Nine People's Favorite Thing from [title of show] really sums it up for me. I'd rather be nine people's favorite thing then 100 people's ninth favorite thing. This gives me encouragement that i am moving in the right direction, and good advice to take with me as i continue to move forward.

    While I appreciate your videos, it would be nice to see these tips applied to books instead of movies! I get the reason on one hand for using movies. But I think a big issue with writers tends to be that they think they can write stories when really they spend their time watching movies. And these are two totally different types of story telling.

    My current project is based on the unreliable narrator...three unreliable narrators who are actually one who is unable to process trauma without splitting her perspective into three. This gives me hope that if I wrap up the threads tightly, it won't be contrived.

    I don't understand why people hate head hopping. I suspect this rule will age poorly. I don't see any objective reason why it would be a bad thing (unless we don't know what head we're in).

      Since most people watched more movies than read books (guilty here...), I think that while the different approaches for books and movies can cause confusion, as long as the movie examples are just a very on-point illustration, it does become easier to grasp. Having said that, because the approaches are different, I agree to use more books. Perhaps a good idea would be to use a combination: one book and one movie, all the time.

    Some honesty here: 1. I don't care if my book was the last book your mom read, and whether she enjoyed it or not. Couldn't care less. 2. If you think my book's going to sell between 200 and 2000 copies, you tell me, so I ditch it and go back to car selling. 3. Yeah, writers are wonderful. Thanks for your love, but if you want me to pay you for editting my novels, first give me the titles of the novels YOU wrote, so I can see if you really know what you're talking about.

      @@Bookfox Honestly, thank you for replying! I love your videos and they have got me thinking more deeply about the novel I am trying to write. I had that thought as well. But I am the lord of "however" haha. So in my plot's case it is more about having the reader think that the protagonist is hallucinating because of a brain condition. I am writing this world that they are dreaming/seeing/hallucinating that is entirely separate from their waking life and reality, essentially resulting in a good ol' flip flop between awake and dreaming. I am gunning for the reader to think this world is clearly to fantastical to be anything other than imaginary (from their perspective. But from my perspective I know this world exists and I want it to be my challenge to leave a very subtle trail of breadcrumbs to lead an attentive reader to the truth. Conversely, the twist that it is real will not be the focal point of the story. In my story, the plot is the plot, whether it's real or not. I need to stop myself or risk bombarding you with all my questions and information😅. Considering all that though, I believe your original comment still applies. This situation seems to be far enough removed from what you discussed in your video that it might be spared the stigma of overuse. Again, I really appreciate the reply!

  • @vesanus5600
    @vesanus5600 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Oh you should watch fightclub again & try to figure out how many characters are truly misrepresented by the protagonist. for example keep actively in mind that tyler said "Self-improvement is masturbation." and look when the protagonist is doing self-improvement like reading. Fight club is a film which had a story so deep and a plot-twist so big and a narrator so unreliable that even today most people only get a small fragment of the twist. Great content like always man!

    • @Bookfox
      @Bookfox วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, very true. Everyone highlights Fight Club's big twist as the unreliability, but you're right, there's plenty of other misrepresentations, too.

Normally I just pay attention to the weather conditions in the scenes I'm writing and how characters react to them. Do you think Brazil is foreign enough for a US audience? I'm thinking if this can help when translation my book to english... There should be a poignant phrase for someone to say in every scene, and if you're working towards it then you're more likely to get there sooner. Well, I think. What about editing? How much should you edit in a day? Maybe you should work on two books. Write one in the morning and edit in the arvo. Easy😃
