Im starting to collect tyco now. I have alot of marklin sprint. Scalectrix. TCR. Great models. And alot of obscure Other slot cars. I always skipped over tyco. Because of the small size.

I loved my Race & Chase and wore it out after many happy hours of play. A few years ago, I found out that the later 9 volt Matchbox slot cars run perfectly well on modern Micro Scalextric track, so after a little work, I've got the cars back up and running again.

The first car you tried to drive was the blocker. It runs independently from the 2 other cars. Says on the box and in both commercials. 🤔

I got hold of an uprated custom power supply and they perform brilliantly - later cars are actually too fast! I have scalextric, Aurora & Matchbox Powertrack - all great in their own way

Enjoyed the video, I’m new to scalectrix, so, I want to build 5 or 6 digital pro Scalextric tracks controlled by the Wi-Fi app. Is it possible to have that many digital pro tracks?

Tyco and TCR sets were rather prominent in the US. The 1/64 scale was standard. The 1/32 scale of scalextric required a huge area for set up, in comparison. I've only recently switched to Scalextric but only to collect certain cars. I'd need a dedicated room for a track for cars that big. Great video🎉

Had this when I was a kid... if I recall, the instructions talked about how if you supposedly go fast enough it won't tip over the bridge. I also remember sometimes the bridge would get stuck and not go all the way down (may have needed some lubrication). Couple thoughts that may impact performance 1) since your back tires were so bad, probably the front ones are as well, maybe see if can replace those too? 2) I saw you briefly mentioned/showed the track cleaning tool it came with, did you try that and I also believe was recommended to clean the bottom metal contacts on the cars with a pencil eraser.

Thank you for producing this video. I'm an absolute newcomer to slot car racing. I was gifted a Scalextric set from a friend about a month ago & have been tinkering with it every since. It is a digital set (C1140SCA "Lane Changer Challenge") bought in 2005. It came with 3 cars but no instruction manual. I have been able to sync 2 of the cars (they run well) but not the 3rd. The power base is very similar to the one in your video but it does not have buttons (controller/car connection indicators) on top of the unit. It has 6 x plug in controller ports on the side of the unit, 2 x power inputs & an auxiliary port. There is also a small LED display screen on top of the power base. When I try to sync the 3rd car, the word "overload" appears on this screen & the unit beeps continually. I would greatly appreciate any advice/info you can provide on how to fix this. I'm very new to slot car racing & found your video very informative. Thank you for the time & effort you have put into producing it. I was recently gifted a pre-loved Scalextric set (product code: C1140SCA "Lane Changer Challenge") which I'm playing around with & having lots of fun. I am definitely learning as I go. The set is digital but he instruction manual was missing & I haven't been able to source a copy from any online searches. The power base has ports for 6 cars, it has a small LED screen, 2 x power ports & an auxiliary port. I haven't been able to find the operating instructions for this online either. My power base looks very similar to the one in your video. It does not have the six coloured buttons on top (indicators re: car/controller connection) like many of the models I've seen online. My problem, apart from not being able to locate an instructions manual, is in syncing the 3rd car. When the car is placed on the track the power base just beeps continually & the word "overload" appears on the LED screen. What am I doing wrong? The biggest visual flaw I see is the diameter of the tyres,,,,, they are massive. They need to be sanded down to a more realistic diameter.

Great to see coverage of a system I didn't have, and bravo with the application of the Arduino speed trap, very nicely done with integrated display. Also didn't realise how fast this actually was. Great video and some really good engineering there. Thank you.

Great video, brought back many good memories. I received this Christmas '79, my parents bought it from the local Co-Op, it was the only place that had it in. The big problem was the pick ups, which seemed to wear out very quickly, and none of the local toy shops seemed to have the replacements in, so I had to wait to wait until we went to the model shops in Preston to get replacements. The cars didn't handle great compared with Aurora AFX and even new the 'U' turn function was a bit 'iffy'. The problem was that the peg which ran in the slot was a bit tight, and would therefore bind. A very gentle sanding with a bit of fine sandpaper made this work much better, but you still had the problem of wearing the contacts out very quickly, and the contacts not having any current during the 'U' turn, so the momentum had to be just right to make it work. Like you, had loads of problems with the bridge, and the contacts for the rails in the bridge were unreliable and wore out quickly. I wonder if the power to the rails in the bridge were only carried from the edges rather than a central point, so the rails lost power when the bridge was rotating? Maybe that was why it was a problem. Also, took a long time to get the car to land reliably on the track, again the peg was such a tight fit in the slot with my set it rarely landed correctly,

We called these Rover Vitesse in the 80s famously pedalled by Tony Pond in the Manx Rally, also called them the SD1 because the Rover V8 to us was the P5. We called the P6 the Rover 3.5

6:26 On the old digital system you are using you are correct, but the new digital power bases have a switch so you can run analogue cars on a Scalextric digital track!

I think its awesome! One of the (very) few cars not covered in advertising and numbers.

The Vitesse was a common name of the poster car. In its day, all cars, except galvanised Porsches and Audis, rotted at about the same rate, and most had crappy electrics. That design is not the same as the contemporaneous model of the Plod car. Immediately most obvious, the wheels are bigger on a thinner axle track, but there are many more dissimilarities.

I had the original Scalextric model from the 80s it was fairly slow if I remember also my mate had a Rover 2300 it was lethal in the wet 😂 great review makes me want to go back to the hobby but I know I’ll spend a fortune 👍🏻🇬🇧

Okay thanks for the video but I still have one question, can I use unchipped old scalextric cars on new track but with an old style power power base? So I'll have a track with old and new track mixed together but with an old power unit powering it. Thanks for any help

Well, I was born in 78. Rover V8's were always either P5B's P6's or SD1's. Nobody ever called all the Ford Escorts XR3i's or RS Turbo's did they. Nor all the Volvo V70's T5's.

I found a charger in an a box of my old toys the other day (not found the car yet) I remember playing with these for hours, the were great fun! I think my brother and I both had one for Christmas. I don't think we used the track much and they just got raced anywhere, I'm going to have to try and get some of these now from eBay & replacement batteries so my little boy can try them out! Thanks for the info on the battery replacement :)

My set is in the loft, I spent many a happy hour playing with it and will be getting it out to see if it's still working 😁
