I managed to get a couple of these sets, in great condition, on eBay, for a great price. No one wanted them. The sets were made, when I was born (1964). The motors are the same ones used on the Zeroid robots, which were also made by the same company, Ideal. What's also nice about these sets, is that you can remove the slot-car pin, so that the cars can be run on the floor.
That's a really cool set, and just knowing it's 60 years old! I love that car, too! I just have a yellow Ferrari 250 that's somehow remained with me since my childhood days. Never worked, never had a track, but interesting
@@slot-car-dad Yes, from 1965 I think (I was born in '63). I should try to find a replacement motor for it. It was always in my toy box for as long as I can remember. Probably was my brother's? I should as him if he knows the backstory on it, since he probably wouldn't want it back, anyway Lol!
The Y-junction pieces self-reset after each car passes through, so whichever way a car went, the next car should take the other route. Prevents them locking up in circles. Edit: oh, you got there...
yeah wasn't sure how they were going to operate, such a simple idea that each pass of the junction sets it up for the next pass to be in the opposite direction.
A friend had one of these sets. I remember him showing it to me in 1970. I can also remember the adverts on UK TV, back in the late 1960's.
Thanks for watching, hope it jogged some memories

They do seem to be incredibly cheap for their age, I guess not many people know about them or just don't want them 🤔 🤷

Is the Ferrari a Motorific one?

awesome, they are amazingly good fun for such a simple system, and the quick motor change facility is a bonus too.
@@slot-car-dad You've inspired me to get this thing moving!
