I make music by night and create tech products by day. I collect music thoughts and learnings to share on Rochefsky.com
Experimenting with music composition and learning everything I can about sound design, music, instrumentation, sequencing, sampling, hardware and software synths, Digital Audio Workstations (Ableton mostly).
I also create accessories for my home studio - and yours ;) - at homestudiostuff.com
I love collaborating if you have ideas...
I work with Synthesizers mostly these days - Moog, Teenage Engineering, Arturia, Novation, Roland, Korg and other popular brands, with a specific interest in indie devices and experimental music creation devices. I also play guitar, but don't have enough formal training on any of my instruments.... Trying to change that later in life (aka NOW) ;)

Teenage Engineering EP-1320 Medieval - ALL SOUNDS demo & Instrument Overview
Teenage Engineering launches the second in the EP series today with the introduction of the EP-1320 Medieval! Following on the trend they started with the Pocket Operator series, this second EP device has a theme, which leans into Medieval sounds, demonstration songs and graphic treatment on the device itself and even in the documentation.
While many will criticize the launch of a new device that so closely follows the prior in the series (the KO II EP-133), perhaps this opinionated approach to sampler/sequencer devices could inspire new music that would never have been made with the more general approaches taken in so many existing devices. Listening to the demo songs on the device is inspiring toward this end...
Time will tell whether the EP series continues along this path of theme-based instruments - and hopefully the next few in the series, in addition to having theme-based samples, will also introduce sound-making and song-making features which are theme-aligned.
If you have ideas of what the next theme should be - please leave it in the comments!!
My first guess: 80's punk bands... or maybe even a license deal with one band - like Echo and the Bunnymen, or even more mainstream rock, like Pink Floyd or Devo... so many choices...
This video provides an introduction to the device, a summary of the similarity to the EP-133 KO II, and an audio demo of all the sounds and taste of every one of the 9 demo songs!

Get To Know Korg NTS-1 mkII - SOUND DEMO & narration of synth engine & effects
มุมมอง 2.4K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Korg NTS-1 mk II is a new version of the original with an improved keypad, arpeggiator, new effects and synth models, and a bunch more. This video is a sound demo of many of the synth sound design features and the effects built in. Pound for pound (or Kilo for kilo) it may be the most powerful synth I own... maybe... but it is truly a powerhouse for its tiny size. The sounds and effects are...

TX-6 Firmware Update 1.2.12 - How to Sample & Loop - pretty cool (and limited) 😅
มุมมอง 3K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
The newest firmware update from Teenage Engineering on the TX-6 Field Mixer - firmware version 1.2.12 - includes Sampler and Looper features... but are they really enough to be useful on this otherwise highly-functional and high-quality device? TX-6 Sampler feels more functional than the TX-6 Looper... but you decide. Thanks to @Khordmaster who seems to have broke the news (at least for me) abo...
Comparing EP-133 to SP-404 MkIi - Teenage Engineering & Roland - Which features matter to you?
มุมมอง 12K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
It’s not easy to pick an all-in-one groovebox from the huge array of options available on the market - so this video compares the EP-133 and SP-404 MkII - since they present different price points and different feature sets… I use a visual presentation of the Sony, pattern and sound data on each device since that has a large influence on the workflow of the two devices. But … This video is inte...

I was looking for something to lay down a groove while I play lead on my microfreak. After much research I boiled it down to these two. I'm so glad I found your video.
Oh yeah - either of these (and many more!) would be great for that!! Have fun!
Thanks a lot for taking the time to do all these plaits videos and sharing your cheatsheets, very useful
You’re very welcome!! And thanks for not making fun of me saying “plates” instead of “plaats” LOL (yes a few ppl were apparently offended)
I own both and use both. The sp404 has 48k samping rate and sd card unlimited memory. I use it for recording, processing, making mixes and storage. The KO 2 is just a sh** hot sampler, that is fun to use and very good for inspiration and creativity. Once I have some nice loops or beats going on te KO 2, I record them into the 404 for further processing. They are both very good pieces of equipment especially if you hate soul destroying, creativity killing D.A.W.S. Les Rescue.
Nice video! What is the signal chain here? How do you connect them together?
From what I remember, midi clock out from S-1 to TR6S and both independently audio out to mixer… I usually add those notes to these videos but missed that here!
perfect to make the next medieval pocket 🔥⚔️🔥
Sample to the KO1 is an idea
Mental 💥🤯😂⚔️🪓🤴🇬🇧
Best tutorial I’ve come across for this - probably makes sense to watch this after you’ve played with one for a few days rather than watching before purchase. Nice one ❤
Thank you! 😊
i cant imagine having enough disposable cash to even consider thinking purchasing this for a gag is worth while
For that medieval re-enactment nut perhaps…
Thanks for showing me what I'm not missing.
🤣
OK, so I'm going to ask a question in complete ignorance. A lot of the sounds here come as phrases - the lit doesn't just play lute sounds, it plays a little lute tune and so on. So, to what extent is this usable as a sound library for MIDI control? I do a lot of MIDI guitar and would be interested in accessing a lot of these sounds - but by playing them rather than just triggering someone else's tunes. Is that possible?
You can trigger pads via midi note on/off messages… if you trim the sound you’ll get the trimmed version for the length of the gate (from On to Off) and you can also change whether each pad plays the whole sound until the end (triggers with On message) or only plays for the length of the gate (that’s in PAD settings)…. So yes - possible!
Thanks for this, great review. I'm trying to figure out what would be best for me, currently looking at the Hush-X, Blackstar Carry-on, and Vox SDC-1 Mini. Would love to know if you have an opinion. Cheers
Unfortunately I haven’t tried the black star or Vox - will have to soon! But I really like my Hush-X (not as crazy about the Hush-i as i feel the frets are too shallow)
4 plaits huh, wow Nice setup lol like the groove
Thanks!😊
Rochesfky For President. Finally a Rocker that understand me... (my arrested development and all).Bravo. Seriously... what a great piece of editing, creation and music. BRAVO!
Ha! I think that’s the extended version you heard/watched - short one is better LOL but THANK YOU! ❤️
Wowowowww
Hoping that’s a good “Wowowowww” 😁
@@rochefsky yeah man!!!!
There both good samplers just shut up and take my money
😂👍🔥
Im going to be honest i was not a fan of any of the sounds. Still love your content you are awesome man and do the best job on tutorials!
Thanks so much!
@@rochefsky do you think you will stick with xer mixa? Do you multi track out of your modular? If so how do you do this when xer mixa does not really have those capabilities?
@@joeymc5272 I will definitely continue to use Xer Mixa as the final stage in my modular before coming over to my Model 12, or DAW (I can record on both) - and I can send the three out put stereo pairs (6 mono outs) to different Model 12 inputs to get the multi-track into my DAW . In theory, I could use (I think) on of my USB modules do get multi-track too - but on modular, I often like to live perform different parts to get live effects, etc.... OR record one part at a time anyway - and then remix in my DAW. I'm saying all this as if I do it all the time - but truth is I haven't done modular recording in months. Got hung up doing some direct songwriting with guitar and voice recently... need to get back to my mod rack!!
@@rochefskyawesome thanks for letting me know. I just have one other question if you dont mind is if you use the 3 stereo pair outputs do you lose the ability for send and returns on xer then?
At last. The Dead Can Dance groovebox!
😅😅💀
I returned my ep 133 just for the double memory. the medival sounds that come with it are just a bonus hahah
“Double memory” in total, yes, but only half that you can use for your own sounds… 96mb is used for stock sounds that can’t be replaced.
@@rochefsky i did not return it yet and gonna keep em both lol
@@bernossi5185 THAT’S what I’m talkin’ about! 😅
I just ordered one Mine was white unfortunately
Both colors are awesome 🤩
It seems wild that TE would troll people instead of making a tweaked upgrade version 2.
Demo 5 is straight out of old school runescape
I shouldn't buy this
Let's wait for somebody to rip all those samples and then we don't need to buy this thing, which should have been an update / expansion card / etc. Srsly, those things will go for 200 bucks used in a few weeks when ppl impulse buying will regret their decision
Can s.b please tell me what it means to have 96 M Bytes of memory locked up, does it mean I can not delete them and upload my own samples instead?
Yes. You got it.
@@rochefsky In practice you have more room in EP-133. I cant understand why? To be honest I dont like the dark factory samples on this machine, but for me it would be great to have more memory to upload my own samples!
Thank you very much. This is very very useful for me who need to know how differ of both devices in order to consider which one to buy. Thank you.😃
You’re welcome! 😁
I'm just getting around on EP 133, now a Benny Hill series.

They are capitalizing on dungeon synth hype
Trying to get my brain to translate all the button names when I’m using it is a struggle. I thought it would be a unique font not strange words. The instructions are just as bad.
Definitely harder if you didn’t start with the EP-133
This is a great tutorial. Thanks for doing it.
Glad it was helpful!
Mans using lego for the knobs😂
🦵🅾️‼️
Thank you so much ! Although i like the idea and the demo songs, i am a bit disappointed by the already-made loops for certains instruments. Is it posible to compose its own patterns ?
Yes - you can make 99 patterns in each group - and the loop sounds can always be trimmed

Apart from te just being a shitty subpar anti producers company. This is my kijd of humor if course still pure shit
That Hurdy gurdy tho
E WASTE.
A lot of the sounds are possibly recorded at cosplay type events? Very gimmicky IMO.
😂😂😂
The two EP samplers are definitely cool devices, but I ended up paying the same for Roland’s somewhat equivalent 404Mk2 Lots more memory, but not as cool.
I did a compare on the EP133 and SP404 mkII th-cam.com/video/K2vKhOtKx0Q/w-d-xo.html
Those demos are fire. I can't wait for the Baroque version!
The nine demo songs will just be excerpts of Bach preludes, because public domain...
Thanks for Your Great Demo.....but a Definite Pass.🙉
This is an amazing device if they continue with this pattern . Medieval, Baroque, Classical, Romantic. I'm down, let's go TE!
