Traditional Slovenian Soup Noodles | Homemade Noodles for Soup | Domači Rezanci (Slovenian Recipe)
Episode 69: Experience the authentic taste of Slovenian Homemade Soup Noodles. Growing up in a Slovenian home for me meant Sunday soup (juha) with Mami’s homemade soup noodles (Domači Rezanci).
Store bought noodles work BUT homemade is homemade! Am I right? There is just something so special, different, with the way they taste - perhaps it's all the love that our Mom’s and Grandmother's put in to making them by hand, that gave it the comfort and feeling of 'home'. I loved helping my Mami make rezance. Ever since I was a little girl, in my cute little Slovenian made apron. I am so excited to share this recipe with you.

Have to ask: did you mom ever make a dish using soft white bread cut in cubes mixed with egg, (milk or possibly sour cream), chopped parsley and onion and fried or baked (can't remember), served with homemade apple compote? One of my favourites! I'll have to write to my mom in Canada and ask her if she still has the recipe. This bread looks so delicious. Would have never thought to bake it in a covered cast iron Dutch oven! An epiphany for me!

Yes, this is what my mom often made instead of the noodles! I thought it was called kaša but wasn't sure. Now I know I was right. This is like the German Spätzle. Such soft pasta in soups. Really good!!

Oh my goodness! I still make these! We call them češpovi knedelnji (ya, I know German sneaking in like it does close to the Austrian border). I use sour cream instead of butter. Sadly, we don't see the smaller prune plums very often in Australia, so I cut the larger plums in half or use apricots. So good and hard to just eat a few, but then reality hits when you step on the scale!

My kids, especially my son, loves palačinke! I remember I had them once in a restaurant in Slovenia and they were baked with a blueberry and walnut sauce. Amazing!! I've never been able to find a recipe for that sauce. I think the recipe called for a sweetened cottage cheese filling as well. It was a restaurant in Zavodnje.

We have a lot in common, Michelle. I'm a bit older than you but my upbringing was a lot like yours, albeit in Vancouver. I too didn't speak much English when I entered Kindergarten. I majored in foreign languages in university and became a secondary school language teacher. Sem tudi večkrat bila v Sloveniji na poletne počitnice. Me veseli, da sem vaš kanal našla na You Tube. You don't eat the nylons. And I wouldn't think any kind of chemical can go through the eggshell. (especially if you wash the nylons first) Cheesecloth does seem like a good idea or perhaps lace? Either of these ideas will possibly leave a pattern on the egg though.

Fascinating! Always been my favorite sausage since I was a kid with my Slovenian grandma and aunties. Never knew so many different ingredients went into it! Its such a unique blood sausage compared to other cultures - and by far the best. Thanks for sharing!

It truly is such a delicious sausage. Have you had the other kinds there is a barley, a buckwheat and a white kaša (hulled millet). They’re all so good! 🫶🏼

I am so looking forward to making this recipe, Michelle! All of my Slovenian relatives come from the region where this bread originated. In fact, one of my cousins has an inn nestled right along the kolpa River. I also have a cousin that is a beekeeper and sells his own honey in this region. My great grandfather was born in a small town called Predgrad. That is very cool that you have deep roots in this region. What a small world!

Thank you for this. My grandmother (gottschee german/slovenian) always made this type of noodle in her chicken soup. Some of the other things on your channel are exactly like hers too.

Ooooh, I haven't had this in years! My Stari Ata used to make it. I think my Kuma still has the meat grinder he used (that thing would survive a nuclear explosion. It's super heavy duty😂).

I remember this being at the table as a child back in 60's. I've noticed it a lot now in a small collection of Slovenian cookbooks I've put together. Thanks for this historic bit from the culture's kitchen and your family. Great video, outstanding.
