The first trail ride for the XC 800! | Somehow it didn't blow up!
We've got some local snow again, most of the boys are up in Canada saddlebagging, but Tylor and I are out testing! This time I decided to bring the XC 800 Budget Bomber with me and give it a trial run on the trails and I really don't know how to feel about it!

Just how GOOD is the 858 R-XC!? | The FIRST ride of the year in Canada!

Munson Motorsports webstore: munsonmotorsports.com/ Finally, after what feels like forever, we get back out on the snow! Our first trip & ride of the year takes us up to Mt Valin, Canada. A quick 7 hour ride in the truck and we've got what is most likely our best first ride in years! I took up my brand new 2025 Arctic Cat Catalyst 858 R-XC and got to run this thing through 350 plus miles of Can...
A MAJOR track upgrade for the 858 R-XC! Start to finish Catalyst track swap!
มุมมอง 8K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
This upload is a full walkthrough/how to of swapping the track on your Catalyst chassis Arctic-Cat. I'm replacing the stock 1.35 Cobra with a new Camso Ice Arrowhead 130 that I picked up from TracksUSA. The Catalyst just might be the easiest sled to track swap...ever. So far, these Catalysts have been pretty easy to work on. TracksUSA Ice Arrowhead options: shop.tracksusa.com/camoplast-ice-arro...
Catalyst 858 R-XC vs SnoPro compared! What's actually different!?
มุมมอง 8K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
UPDATE: I somehow missed that the R-XC front track shock is a dual rate setup and not a straight rate 250lb. It has a 170lb tender spring, making for an initial rate of 101lb/in then at the crossover becomes a 250lb. This is very close to what I run in my Polaris sleds (118lb to 250lb) so I was happy to discover this. Also, I had my torsion preload stiff/soft crisscrossed during filming. Lot's ...

oh come on. throw the boot out. as far as ice goes as soon as you start riding the ice breaks up and your good to go.
The snow build up is because you are riding a foot behind your friend… lol speedwerx I sear by these guys best performance parts you can get. Reach out to them for your clutch kits they will fix you up
How much Arctic cat is paying for being so bias. Why are riding so close form your chum keep some distance bro you will cause a accident one day
You are obviously biased for Arctic cat. This is 13 year technology same sled as an Arctic cat sown pro 2013 but with newer plastic…
Out of business cat is finished
The trails look pristine up there in Quebec, a bucket list destination for sure. I love my 25 858 riot and my only gripe is that I’ve been waiting almost 6 weeks for my G8 to show up. The catalyst is a great chassis and power to boot, but just a little much for my wife, but come snow check there will be two, just a 600 for her. Thanks for the informative review thus far. Great video.
Great learning vid thanks
awesome video.
I like the indy 650 had a 1989 looks like you guys had a blast. awesome video
U guys that never had the pleasure of riding the older sleds missed a great aera of riding ! Those sleds u had to know how to ride !!
Can i press my spacers out of my spindles to put them on the outside of the spindle for better trail riding, mine dont move. 2020 Polaris indy xc 137.
Man we use to fly on the old sleds back in the day. Every time my father friends and I pulled the cord it was a race lol!!
Oh the good old days!
Sweet video, I was hoping the old iron would hit the trail. Nice blast
Looks like me on an old sxr 600. Trails and suspension were worse on both lol. Either way, riding old sleds without a care in the world, is more fun than anything.
Gotta ride um like you stole um
You might want to adjust the ski pressure. Also you turn those sleds with the throttle!!! That’s what makes it so fun
Dogggggg you look to be riding this thing harder than all the top of the line sleds 🤣🤣🤣
There's ZERO mechanical sympathy for this one buddy!
@ wait till you see the 700 coming your way!!
What are the two illuminated lights on the dash, one on the tach and one on the speedo
The left side blue one is the high beam headlight indicator and the yellow/orange right hand one is the "Premium" fuel mode indicator light
Ok enough of the old turd, we want to know what's improving the 858. That green light on back of helmet is annoying, id snip the wires if my buddy had that thing on his helmet
Old turd? The 858 couldn’t lose him.
Why are you the way you are?
We saw you up there yesterday. My son was riding the old white Wedge.
Ahhh that thing thing looked SUPER clean! I absolutely loved to see that thing cruising by!
@ it was a barn find. 1,500 miles on it.
@@NortheastHunter That is awesome. I have footage of passing you guys I'll use in another video soon. Shoot me an email to MunsonMotorsports@gmail.com and I can send you some screenshot/pictures!
Is this your first time trail riding an old Polaris edge sled? They were great sleds back in the day. I snowchecked a 2001 XC800SP back then and it was a great sled. Then 03 happend (the REV) and things changed fast. Those old edge sleds with the PPS Shock set up right rode so nice.
Do you guys ever just take a nice, leisurely trail ride? Or is it point A to B as fast as you can go all the time.
Its not Sunday, and he isn't 65yrs old
@kwmiked that's not the point. In the areas that get to ride in upper Wisconsin, when there's snow on the the ground it's nothing to see 5 or 6 hundred sleds a day. All I'm saying is you're not the only ones out riding. You have to be very wary of other people. I have my times of givin' it to but not all the time.
@@jimberglin1613 Wisdom comes with age. We all gave it 100% when we were young and didn't know any better.
What clutch set up do you have in that weapon?
Stock is 4500 on mine
@@sneezinhatchI don’t mean what is engagement rpm, what is the set up. Weights, springs, helix.
This is a full setup from Tony at TRS now, he sent me a bunch of his old race stuff, hand polished helix, etc. It's quite different than what I had in for the race day and it feels like if it could get some traction ever that it might be pretty quick haha. I did some other stuff getting it dialed in. Gotta pull a plug when I get it back in the shop and see how they're looking, won't be a full proper plug chop but it'll be a decent indicator of how she's doing.
@@MunsonMotorsports Great! I am sure it will be a decent set up. Doesn't look like it transfers much, mind you I think you said in the video the shocks are all needing rebuilding?
@@pockets5628 The fronts are toast, pulled it out of the trailer and we went and tested, came back to grab the 'ol girl and both shocks left a puddle under them...which they've been doing since I jumped the driveway way back...surprised there's still any oil in them to leak lol. Rears all seem fine, just stiff. I think the skid may be mounted a little low in the tunnel, it's got a mean rake to it.
That’s a hoot
Looks like you got the new sno pro's suspension handling better
Way better! Catalyst updates video is coming soon, but waiting until we've got things finalized to release a full update video. We're very close now, one more round of shocks to come back and this third calibration should be perfect. It's like Goldilocks when working with brand new setups haha
@@MunsonMotorsportsi know you said the ac5 shocks were way too stiff would they be better on a thundercat? Jw thinking of adding them
Great camera placement! It makes for a good perspective. Thanks for taking us along!
Stator may look new but from startup after dad rode I instantly looked at the wife and said it’s got a weak stator tho!
I’m sure she’s so proud of you. 🤡
@ you didn’t have to use a clown emoji for us to see what you are. The comment is good enough bud.
I bet she knew exactly what u were talking about 😂
That's a good call, it's the only thing I haven't replaced yet haha. I may order another one and throw it in, I'm not sure exactly what direction I'm gonna go with this thing yet. I know Ricks Motorsports Electronics has rock solid new ones but they're a bit more than I wanna throw at this thing given what I may do with it down the road...
@@kwmiked considering we had to do the one on her ZR a few years back yes. 80% of all repairs on our home, autos and toys she gets the rundown and retains most of it
Center shock preload a bit too much? 😊😊 if it 🛝
This whole rear skid setup is out to lunch haha. I think the rear skid was mounted too low in the tunnel so it sits with a crazy angle...I may fix it someday, but probably not 🙃
Adjust ski pressure ass is loose ski won't lift! Just sayn.
Great video. Honest and you covered all the important aspects. I still can't believe the SP is that stiff? Weird. Looking forward to the next vid on these Cats. Cheers.

Great how to video, but I'm thinking it's a lot simpler to install screw-in studs on the Ripsaw.
Sorry Arctic Cat this sled should have been made 10 years ago ! RIP !!!
Great feedback video, looks like they hit it out of the park with this sled. I hope it drags them back up, the world doesn't need to lose another manufacturer.
Agreed! We can't go down to two, that wont be good for anyone. I'm hopeful they'll get bought out and continue on!
Making them for 1.75" ever?
We've currently got one prototype set made up, have yet to get enough snow to get them out on a sled and tested yet. Looking like I'll be able to get to that in the next week or so if things go well!
@@MunsonMotorsports i got my shocks over at Andy's if you want to just drop the prototype off i can try it for you :) If it works will price be the same as the 2.0"?

For as bad as the jackshaft bearing is, and it being driven right out of the bushes, it sure is a runner!
Absolutely Great Video!!
Appreciate you watching brother!
@MunsonMotorsports Absolutely! I refuse to miss any of your videos!!
Very thorough video. Great info. Would love to see a side by side actual ride comparison but this weather is sucking..
Rookie mistake to not snap on the stopline on ur self... Great videos man keep it up!😁
On those older machines chain the front end down, The sleds like the MachZ will do 120MPH+ gear it down 2-3 teeth on the top gear and run short lugs and add 198 studs that penetrate at least 1/2inch, remove as much weight as you can, cooling system is not needed for short drags remove the gauge cluster stock seat, lights, snow flap etc... use antifreeze or dish-soap on the slide rails. Only put 3 gallons in the fuel tank. Delete the oil injection and run premix. On warmer days like this you can jet down 1-2 sizes on the main jets. Put a heavy spring or add a spacer in the primary to raise engagement up to 6k RPM. Most races are won in the first 60-100 feet, you want the best transfer out of the hole, this will take some experimenting with the shock springs and transfer blocks to get the best 60 foot time.
Great video, does anyone have any info on what the ATAC would ride like compared to the snopro or the Rxc
The demo sled I rode last year was a 137" ATAC and if memory serves me right, I feel like it was about 35-40% softer than my RXC was with the stock shock valving.
Just curious it's cold out why do you not have a windshield?
