      The issue with unbalanced frames is the amount of honey in them rather than burr comb but yes you could remove it prior to extraction.

    • @mt.corambaapiculture

      The only obligation around Varroa is to notify when you find them & to manage the infestation. There are no movement restrictions within NSW, so yes, a beekeeper who knowingly has mites could move them to the almonds. Not sure about border restrictions into Vic or SA

      @mt.corambaapiculture หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Chris, not sure where you are in the world. The unit I used here is a Gallagher B10 made in NZ. It takes 4 x D-sized batteries & is commonly used by people fencing off small horse paddocks. Once the cattle get hit a few times, they learn to stay away. I wouldn't normally worry about it if I checked the hives every day however I will visit them weekly so its a long time for a hive to be tipped over. If you are in OZ any farm/rural supplies store can help you every country town has one or two.

    Agree 100%! Recovering a laying worker hive requires a lot of work and brood resources. It's only ever "worth it" if the hive is easy to access and the season is suitable. In reality, doing what is demonstrated here is far more pragmatic, and if you want to recover your hive numbers, take a split and add a mated queen (ie start fresh). Good video!

      Thanks Keith, I think people spend too much time on trying to fix failing hives & not enough time looking after the productive ones.

    What happens to all of the bees that you shook on to the ground?

    • @mt.corambaapiculture
      @mt.corambaapiculture 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They fly into nearby hives & the laying workers are dealt with.

    my game plan for working a mean hive place bottom board 10 ft away from location pull top box set on bottom board place queen excluder pull second box place on top of that place queen excluder ,pull last box place on top of that with feeder. put new box full of empty frames and feeder with caged queen close both up and come back tomorrow fill feeders find queen squish add new queen in cage in now calm stack . bad field force will be drawing out new combs fill feeders add empty combs. you can do that about three times and have all mean bees gone lots of new drawn comb re queen 3 to 4 new hives .

    I lived in South Georgia (US) for 35 years and the sound of the insects in your video made me homesick. So similar that overwhelming buzz. Thanks for the videos

      Thanks for watching & commenting. The cicadas had a big year this summer. They have quietened right off now.

    I thought that after the hive had had no brood at all for about two weeks that they can start to become laying workers. Why hasn't this been mentioned here? is it not always so? And why not paper over another hive. I didnt think they would be accepted just going into other hives, interesting.

    • @mt.corambaapiculture
      @mt.corambaapiculture 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they can develop into laying workers but not always. The displaced bees will fly into other hives bees drift between hives all the time. I would only do a paper combine if I was merging two big populous hives. The hive I shook out had no hope of recovery & I didn't want to lose the resources to hive beetles.
