How is your sugar loaf? Did you get to try it? I have this tree and looking forward to next year. Any update videos?
Naveed...How do you BEST holdover...or preserve your nearly fiberless mangos...so that they last the Longest ?
@jeff6899 Can you please further explain your question? Are you asking how the fruit last longer on the tree? or off the tree? Or if I preserve the fruit to last multiple months?
Nice work, Naveed ! Love it 🤗
I'm in AZ. north Peoria. Is it OK to prune now? I have a coconut cream mango that has been in ground about 10 years. I haven't trimmed it. It grows very weepy to the ground. I even strap branches to a structure I have built around it. Branches still curve to the ground. It's loaded with mangoes so I'm not sure if I should trim it now or wait until I harvest.
@ja4luke In Arizona, we have a very short growing season, especially after harvest. I always prune as soon as possible around April 15th. So starting Alpril 15th as soon as any branch drop flowers or drips fruit, I go ahead and prune it. For trees that are not holding fruit or I want them to skip, I prune immediately after April 15th. But this is just my process. This process gives the prune branches maximum time to grow and get mature enough to flower and hold fruit next summer.

what is your fertilizing “routine” for mahachanok, with what do you fertilize and when for a whole year?, and what about watering, I live in a very arid and hot climate, 42 Celsius to 49.
Variety name please
What size pot is your Valencia pride mango tree is in?
@@irvinjames9589 25 gallon pot
@@TheNaveed787 Some advice put the Valencia Pride in a bigger pot because its a grows vigorously. My valencia pride is taller than my house and electricity pole.
Thanks for sharing your stuff we learn a lot and have fun!
Very nice display my friend. What ever happened to the Bombay and Duncan mango trees?
Awesome garden. What are your 3 most productive varieties and that harvest well for you? Thanks for vids
@damehinojosa334 Production varies between the trees every year based on a few factors. The most productive trees last year were Mahachanok, Malika, and Duncan. The most productive by nature are Duncan and Sweet Tart. When these become big trees, they will beat everyone else every year.
*This is awesome for the desert. Thanks for the flavor & aroma description.*
@Naveed , I also notice in your video, that some varieties have more sun damaged then others. Is this due to location ( direct sun ) or did you notice some varieties are more susceptible to heat damage?
To some extent what you saw is correct. Although all new mango growth can burn above 100F, I have notice that some varieties get more sun damage then others. For example, I have noticed/experienced that Sugar loaf, coconut cream, valcarrie new growth gets more sun damage than Kesar, Alphonso, Edward, Malika and Mahachanook. Mature leaves are less likely to get sun damage than new growth.
This is exactly I was thinking that established varieties from India / Pak are more tolerant to heat than US/Florida varieties. It make sense as well since backhome it’s normal to have daily temp 100+ during growing season.
@@TheNaveed787 I agree with you about Sugar loaf and coconut cream getting sun damage. After experiencing this i keep both in the sun for about 2-3 hours then they are placed in a shaded area(Florida).
Amazing Arizona crop!!!
The big falsa tree indicates that you have good microclimate / growing conditions I am in bayarea 9B and my falsa plant ( yeah it’s tiny) dies to ground level every year due to cold ( frost / freeze) and comeback as a small bush Hopefully more trees around will also provide some protection in future
I'm jealous. My mango trees are in the mulch pile.
Sorry to hear about your mango trees. I hope next time you grow them, they will do really good and grow very well for you.
Very nice. How long did it take for your grafts to start fruiting? Did they all start blooming/fruiting in the same season? Have you ever tried multi-grafting onto a potted mango tree?
Technically the grafts are from mature trees, so they always bloom in the next spring. Usually people will not let 1 year old grafts hold fruit as graft union may still be weak and healing, so grafts can more easily break. Usually people will let grafts hold fruit starting 2nd year as by then the graft union has fully healed and is stronger.
@@TheNaveed787 So even if the scion is from a mature grafted tree that has never bloomed/fruited, it will do so on the tree you graft it on to?
@user-su5du9ln8r The scion has the exact genetic code as the tree it comes from. If the scion tree is flowering and fruiting, then the scion graft on the new tree will do the same and vice versa.
@user-su5du9ln8r In my experience, there is some difference between grafting a scion on a young seedling versus on a big mature tree like my Edward mango tree. In the case of my Edward mango tree, which flowers very early will have some influence on the scion graft. For example, my Alphonso is a late bloomer. But when I grafted Alphonso scion on Edward, I noticed that Alphonso flowered early along with Edward. Whereas my mature Alphonso tree from where the graft was taken flowered later on its own schedule.
@@TheNaveed787 So in other words, in your experience, the scions must come from trees that have already bloomed/flowered, they can't just be from "mature" trees. Interesting. I've seen other TH-cam videos where the host says the scions do not have to come from already fruiting trees, just that they must be taken from mature trees.
Impressive production on your potted mangoes! How frequently do you have to up pot into larger containers? How long can you keep them in 15-gallon pots?
I do not gradually up pot. For example many people will up pot slowly from 3g to 7g to 15g to 25g and so on. I will also plant in the biggest pot available right away. I have planted 3g mango trees directly in 15g and 25g pots and they have done very good and still continue to do very well. In my experience you can keep a 3g tree in 15g pot for about 3 years max. After 3 years it would be good to up pot them to 25g to keep good growth rate and strong growth. Although the tree can live in 15g pot for many years. I have Keitt in 15g pot for 8 years. It grows super slow due to root bound. But it still produces 6 to 8 mangoes every year. If I was to put it in ground or 25g or higher gallon pot, it will start to grow faster and stronger because the root ball will start to grow and there will be more roots to supply more water and food to the tree.
How many sq ft is this? So impressive!!
My garden is ultra small. My house lot is only 7000 square feet. I have a two story big house and a pool and concrete from patio to pool. So you can see that there is almost no garden left. Most trees are planted along the east, south and west wall. I wish I had a bigger garden :)
BROOO, when can I visit??? I'm in Phoenix. Are you selling at all??
sorry I don't sell, as their is not enough production to enjoy and then sell. Now only if I had a bigger garden.
Naveed You are the mango master
Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for watching.
Beautiful, healthy looking mangoes. What do you feed your trees in the pots?
I feed Vigoro Avocado and Citrus granular fertilizer from home depot. The rating is 6-4-6. This is a low number fertilizer. I feed about every 2 months. Daily watering is most important. Thanks for watching.
*How does it compare to (Super Julie)*
Super Julie mango is very fruity in taste. It has sweet and then some tart component to it. Super Julie flesh is little more firm that Alphonso mango. Alphonso mango has floral aroma and sweet. It has not tartness to it when full ripe. It is also smaller in size than SJ. Both are very good tasting mango in their own way.
does the new growth start as green instead of red? Mine is green and i'm trying to figure out if it's just the variety or some sort of deficiency
Sone varities have light green color for new growth. Some have chocolate or brown or red or burgundy color new growth. So I think your tree has normal new growth. What variety do you have? Valencia pride or sugar loaf or valcarrie?
*I have seen (Dasheri) spelled many different ways. Also (Dussehri) (Daseri)(Dusari)(Dasher), (Dasheri Aam), (Dashehri)(Dasehri). Are these all the same thing?*
They are all same mango varieties just spelled differently.
@@TheNaveed787 *Okay, Thanks*
Thanks 🙏🏼👍🏼
Welcome 👍
How often you water it?
Water it daily.
*Naveed Afzal, this would be a good topic for the mango forms. I'm wondering if anyone has a technical answer? I'm wondering if it could be similar to blossom end rot in tomato due to poor Calcium assimilation during early early fruit development. So many things can interfere with Calcium assimilation even if it is high in both water & soil.*
I am still a mango growing student and learn something new every day. I don't know what the problem is. Hopefully some day I will find out. I tackle this problem by removing the fruit as soon as I see a color break and then ripen it inside and it works alright.
@@TheNaveed787 I think that you are doing an awesome job! 💯 😉 This is very challenging soil, as well as environment. The aluminum foil was a great idea too.
@Pay-It_Forward Thank you for the good words, and thanks for watching and commenting.
@@TheNaveed787 *Doing extra thinking on the topic of over ripe at blossom end. I'm wondering if it might be Auxin (Transport & Redirection) other than that controlled by Calcium. Going to do some experiments. Get back to you & the mango group in 3 months.*
What size do you think you can keep this tree and still fruit?
I can let it grow 2 to 3 feet more all around. So about 8 feet high and 6 feet wide. I do not have more space than that. On the east is wall 3 feet away, on other sides is Edward, Alphonso and peach tree. It can fruit perfectly fine in that size and stay in that size, if I prune every year, which I will do. If I had space than I would let it grow to at least 12 to 16 feet high and maintain that height if possible.
Did they fully ripen? According to (Walter Zill), Keitt sometimes sets multiple crops. So fruit set was during the monsoons? How was the flavor?
The fruited on schedule per Phoenix mango season. They set flowers in March and were of full size in August/September. Keitt mango in Phoenix will stay on the tree green for long time and will not turn yellow or get ripe. So sometimes I let it stay on the tree over the winter and in to Jan/Feb so I can have fresh mangoes in winter. But there is some downside to that. The mangoes in Jan/Feb do not taste very good. The juice content and softness of flesh goes away to some extent. Therefore best is to just harvest them in September while it is still hot, ripen them and enjoy them on time.
Very nice for August in north Phoenix. It's been 2 years. How is it doing now? How does Super Julie compare to Carrie?
Pickering is supposed to be both more heat & more cold tolerant, as well as high yielding. Have you tried to grow here? how does it compare in flavor?
Hi! friends congratulations on your beautiful mango trees. how many years is your mango tree , what type of fertilizer you give the tree . and how often you give fertilize and water . i just plant my 1 years but got 4 fruits already. thank you and happy picking those mango..
I planted this tree in ground in April 2020 during lockdown. It was 7g mango tree size at the time of planting. I use Vigoro brand, Citrus and Avocado fertilizer from Home depot, the rating is 6-4-6. I fertilize about every 2 to 3 months. I water daily in summer and every other day in winter. Thanks for watching.
Do you prefer the taste of mallika ripening on the tree or counter?
I have tried both methods and both are good. I prefer ripening on the tree.
*Thanks Naveed Afzal, such an awesome job for an extreme harsh environment.*
Thank you very much.

Taste?
It did not ripen evenly as it takes long time to ripen and it was super hot in Phoneix last year in July/August. I did not like the taste. It did not have much flavour. Not juicy and not much sweet. I have been grafting on it other good mangoes like Lemon Zest, Sugar Loaf, CAC, and Alampur Baneshan.
Any updates?
I had two big mangoes from this tree last year in 2023. I had one mango in 2022. This year it skipped flowering. Only one branch flowered and had baby mangoes, but it dropped all mangoes few days ago. Phoenix growing season is short and lancetilla mango takes very long to mature and ripen. The taste is OK, not anything special. This summer I am grafting other varieties on it. Currently I have successfully grafted, CAC mango, Alampur Baneshan (Imam Pasand) mango, Lemon Zest mango and Sugar Loaf mango on it. All these grafts hopefully will flower and hold mangoes next year.

@@TheNaveed787 I wasnt happy with the ones that dropped in June last year. Have 3 on the tree now and might sell it if they dont taste better this year. Im no good at grafting. Love your trees. I have a sugarloaf also and it flowered this year but didnt hold fruit. Thanks for the reply.
Hello What was the seed from?
I did not keep track of the mango seed. It was seed from some good mango variety from my garden.
I one of my fav mangos. This is the mango that got me started. Mine flowered this year but didnt hold any fruit. Lots of new growth so Im thinking next year. Did you get any fruit this year?
Yes, I have a few mangoes on it right now. It will produce heavy next year. I wish I had ground space to plant it in the ground. It is really a great mango.
How long will you keep it in 15 gallon pot?
I am looking for a spot in the ground to plant it. In case I keep it on the pot, it is good for one year after that it's growth will become restrictive but it can still grow slowly and stay in 15g for another few years.
I have found a space in ground. It is tight space but I do not have a choice, garden is very small. I am digging the hole right now, and I plan to plant it tomorrow. I will post an update video soon. Hoping for it to grow well in ground. I really love Valencia Pride mangoes.

Where did you get all nice mango plants? Can I have the nursery name and number please. I have some tropical plants but I don’t have mango plant
The nusery name is GREENLIFE, also known as Shamus o leary fruit trees. It's in Phoenix, Arizona. You can Google it. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your mango growing.
You should cover it with paper bags

Hello Nick, good to hear from you. I don't see you on the Facebook Mango Growers page anymore. Hope you are doing well.
@@TheNaveed787 I quit social media. I heard you’re in Florida sometimes. Come by and visit
@nicholasmanns ok got it. Thanks for the invite. I would love to visit your garden. I visit Florida in every summer. Can you please email me your contact information at this email: nnafzal@yahoo.com
How does the plant survive in winter, are u keeping inside a greenhouse. I am in texas and just want to know the tricks. thx.
I keep the plant outside in the garden. I don't have a green house. I don't get freezing Temps, so plant survives on its own. In winter I keep up with watering every 1 or 2 days depending on Temps. I think good watering helps it survive. Also if the top of the tree is covered that will help also. Like place it in patio, or under a big tree, or take inside the garage.
Where are you located? What climate bro ?
I am in Phoenix, Arizona.
Valencia Pride is a vigorous grower i think you need to up pot it into a larger pot. 15 gal is way too small!!
Yes that is correct. I am trying to find a place for it in ground.
That is a great looking tree for our weather! It looks like you have got the pruning/growth down to combat our "weeping" branches so many mango growers get out here. Do you still have issues with that in Phoenix with all that you have learned over the years?
Travis, I dont get the weeping branches problem anymore by pruning only once a year. Also, I only allow 2 to 4 branches on new branches, depending on the thickness of the host branch. I have learned that due to the short mango growing season in Arizona, you would want to prune only once a year. You also need to prune as soon as possible so that new branches have a maximum time to grow till winter hits.
Wow, I grow my mango trees in containers too, but VP would be at the bottom of my list of doing so. Those get massive and will require frequent root pruning, up potting and major pruning that will negatively impact on fruiting, at least down here in south Florida. I'll follow your progress with interest. Good luck!
Hello, what zone are you in ?

Thank you for the video. Would you be able to give an update video how is it doing end of May 2024. We just purchased a Maha Chanook 15 gal. Many blessings
