New subscriber! I also have a homeschool TH-cam channel!
Y’all are too cute! 😂
Are there online schools or programs that u recommend? Or what do u need to have to be able to homeschool?
Hi excellent video thank you, you would be surprised to hear many parents ask whether home education is legal, so fantastic topic for a video, I'm looking forward to your upcoming video on colleges😊 just one little note re the assessment process parents can meet the assessor outside of their home for the assessment be it in a hotel/coffee shop etc I did my assessment via video link as it was during covid but I have many friends who did their assessments outside of the home very recently, just important as we are a small(but growing community😊) to have everyone on the same page ❤❤
I didn’t know that was an option! That’s fab to hear they’re doing that. 🫶🏻
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149oops my comment got removed🤷♀️ anyway I just said it's been that way for years (except for during covid) there are FB groups and The Home Education Network of Ireland both excellent sources of info & support
Hi, thanks for the video, is it obligatory to register with Tusla? If yes, do you know where can I found info about this?
It is a legal requirement although I know that there are some families who choose not to. I think if you choose not to then you also need to accept the ramifications that come with it (I’m unaware of what those may be) to be honest like I said I find them very hand offZ I think you would have to have a really strong opinion on government over reach to fight that battle on this point- thanks for the comment! Here’s a link that might help www.citizensinformation.ie/en/education/the-irish-education-system/home-education/
Thank you so much! Please keep doing more videos! ❤

😍😗🤗
So great to watch! He’s doing so well and well done everyone for moving up a level. How old is he? We are also using TGTB which we think is an amazing curriculum given it’s free 😊 the kids love it. I considered switching to something else so many times but the children really do enjoy their lessons so we have stayed with it for Language Arts 😊
He is 7- I’m kinda the same, I keep looking around every year but tend to end up choosing TGTB. Also- the freedom of going up a level and not having the internal battle of feeling like I’ve “wasted” money on curriculum. ☺️
That was so amazing to watch, we use The Good And The Beautiful too for Language Arts and Maths, we switched to them in September and both my children love them. I always thought structure wasn't our thing but both children are happier with structure and it has given me as a home Ed mum such a boost in confidence, lovely to see someone in Ireland use it very few of the home Ed families I know use it❤ fab video❤

It’s very overwhelming to be honest- not for the feint hearted 😂
Great to see you back 🥰
I know this is three years old, but the beginning of your morning was so refreshing to watch to see that my morning (though well prepared, like yours) is often distracting. Thank you!
As I rewatched this video I was wondering, have you thought of/tried choosing the 2-3 books that your son wanted to read and just reading more more pages instead of doing a smaller amount of 4-6 books?
Can you talk about which books to get and which are not necessary for ACE? I looked at grades 1-12 and there's like a million different subjects and books to choose from.
Hi are you still Homeschooling?? Irish mum here, was binge watching your channel it's amazing seeing a family homeschooling in Ireland, would love an update ❤
Haven’t been active on here in a while but yup still going strong! My kids have been bugging me to do more videos so update on its way! Delighted you’re homeschooling hope your finding your groove x
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149 oh great can't wait for the new content 😁yes we're finding the groove but as you know it changes from year to year 🤣this is our 4th year home educating absolutely love it, happy children happy mum😁 many thanks for your reply ❤️
I chose Sonlight, as wanted a curriculum that did not conflict with my Christian faith.
Hi, does TGTB conflict with Christianity? I heard it is Christian based.
TGTB doesn’t conflict with Christianity 😊

LOVeD this video!! I really appreciated your insight as a mom about to start ACE! Very genuine and specific! Thank you!
Hey there, been wondering how you are doing? Will you be posting videos about the upcoming school year. Always loved watching an Irish mama :)
Thanks! We've made some big changes this year and excited to share! There will be videos coming this academic year for sure, I appreciate the love xxx
I’d love to know if you are still homeschooling? I have been rewatching your videos again because we have our Tusla assessment next week.
You should totally have your hubby pop on your channel more often. You guys are so cute
Are u still using TGATB or back with Sonlight? X
Just wanted to let you know that we are r Really missing your videos 🙂
New subscriber here! 😍 you’re so cute! I’ve been leaning toward the good and the beautiful
New subscriber!
I was actually expecting to see you print the phonics cards. I really dont want to mess up the cards order.
This has nothing to do with the exciting curriculum news- but you’re hair looks great that length!
Aww thanks so much! 😘
I am doing SonLight but only HBL, and I don’t requested the instructor’s guide. I am reading book by book and We analyze them naturally just talking about them. We are using TGTB for Language arts but I find K level pretty dense for K level. The rest of knowledge fields (we don’t split the knowledge in “subjects”) we use miscellaneous material I find in the internet. I think for K level is more than enough; I am trying to give my child all the possible time to play.
I have been so curious about Gather Round since it came out. I was so disappointed in it when we finally used it! After one unit of Gather Round, I went right back to TG&TB. I have no complaints about TG&TB. It’s worth it for us. Good luck!
Love Sonlight ❤️
Hi Carol, have you linked in with Hen Ireland? If so do you find it useful?
Hey! No I have no experience with HEN! ❤️
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149 Thank for getting back.
Hi! Do they allow reprinting from a file ? Id like to get the PDF for handwriting. I have 1 in K and 1 in pre k, and would like to print again for my preschooler when he gets to the level. Thanks !
Yes! You have something like 6 months to download to your computer, once you have it you can print as many times as you like! X
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149 oh thats awesome!! i appreciate your quick response!! :)
Which version of the Epsom eco tank , please?
My version is no longer available but whichever you can afford. I got mine super cheap (like 169e or something like that) because the newer model was coming in, my MIL got the 300e one after my husband reccomended it and she loves it too. We've had no issues with ours over the years despite it being an "older" version x
We got around the library card limit because when we were old enough to read a simple book (around 6yrs) we were allowed our own cards, so whenever there was a book we wanted to read it usually went on our card and “school books” went on mom’s. Of course we also went like three times a week so returning stuff wasn’t much of an issue lol. What is the usual check out limit there? In the US 30 has been the minimum limit for everybody in the library systems I’ve been a part of, I’ve even been to some that are closer to 50
Two questions. 1. What extra activities and clubs are your kids in to socialize them and prevent from making them awkward. 2. What are some things that you wish you could do or had the time to do to help socialize them.
Hey thanks for asking! Probably a long answer BUT in my personal experience my kids act more appropriately in social circles then many of their peers BECAUSE they are Homeschooled. No one throws a child into a pool and expects them to "pick it up" No one sends a child into a stables expecting the child to figure out how to ride In the two above examples, adults usually instruct and guide, then allow the child to try it out, then will feedback and encourage, finally practice is important for any new skill. "socialising" is the activity of being with others, and learning to act appropriately When I as a mom am around when my kids are interacting with others, I can correct and encourage appropriate behaviour. Teaching th how to act in certain situations and BEING there when those situations arise to be an emotional. Support for my kids has been such a blessing. As a family, pre covid we were always mixing and interacting with many age groups, my kids would play with kids of my friends multiple times a week, my two middle kids had youth group twice a week which is time away from mom which is important too, wherever we go I prepare the kids with what behaviour is appropriate and what to do if something goes wrong. If they are with me I will correct behaviour or step in if they are not appropriate or if it's an activity that they are away from me for, I will always ask very pointed questions to encourage appropriate behavior. Alot of awkwardness comes from NOT picking up social ques, or nervousness of not understanding what's going on. Equipping our kids for life is our job, including socialising not only with people that they enjoy spending time with, but also people who maybe aren't as "fun", like being polite to shop workers, bus drivers, museum staff etc. As for exactly what we as a family do Forest school with other Homeschoolers once a week Youth group 2-3 times a week Football 2-3 times a week Playdates going to peoples houses at least once a week Playdates with someone coming to us or meeting at a park once every week or two Daily interaction with all age groups when we are out and about We also had a piano teacher come once a week so one on one's with someone other then a parent was happening
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149 thank you very much! What social cues have you noticed are often missed and how do you correct them? That is what I’m afraid of as I may miss them too
Nothing really comes to mind, I suppose eye contact, turn taking, listening and responding to what has been said (proper conversation) recently there was an issue in the park where my sons friend was in the wrong and others were getting mad at the friend. My son, out of loyalty to the friend stood up for him despite feeling he was wrong too, it was a unique situation that I couldn't have prepared him for but we talked it over in great detail and he now has a "blueprint" as such if a similer situation arises of multiple responses that would all be appropriate. We can't ever know all the situations our kids will be in but if we give them the proper tools they will do great!
Lol! When he says “ I’d take me out too!” 😄
😹
I've ordered them for this weekend. I got the 500kcal lunch and 900 kcal dinner. 2 meal days baby!
Best of luck!
Loved the video and fun to try out different dishes! I might check it out :D
I'm pretty sure you should be working and not watching youtube miss Walsh! 😅
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149 hehehe let's say I'm good at multi-tasking?!?
When we did it, we didn’t do the recitation, either. But we did read through it at the beginning. I also cut out a lot of stuff, but we absolutely did the baking. The other units do have a different feel, though. But I’m doing this with a teenager and I don’t read it out loud to her, but I do discuss with her.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! What kind of typing skill would you say the child needs in order to benefit from this? My 3rd grader has 0 typing experience :) she's currently doing BJU which does cover writing but she's not very engaged in it and certainly doesn't look forward to writing......I also have a 12 year old, you mentioned that your 12 year old is doing it, is he/she ok with the format/graphics and doesn't feel it's too "babyish"?
Neither of my littles had typing experience (my 2nd grader did one disastrous lesson and never typed again) before and they picked it up quickly, it's engaging enough for a 12 year old in my opinion.
I found your channel because we are switching from a more eclectic unit study style TO TGTB. I've been homeschooling for 8 years and we have done a ton of unit studies and only one that I purchased actually really impressed me. The rest were usually repetitive like you said or included things that were more filler than enriching. However, we did some really amazing unit studies that I put together myself. We did a Night at the Museum unit study that took us 2 years. We were doing other things as well, but I worked as much into it as I could. We took a character at a time and studied their personal story, that period in history along with their local geography. With Roosevelt we added a bit of politics, Amelia Earhart had us studying air travel, the Wright brothers, and such. We did Easter Island and studied their history. Even the tiny cowboy is a real person and boy did he have a crazy life story. There was science and zoology with the monkey and dinosaur. Math with Einstein. It was a blast. We also did a hurricane study and let me tell you, I can now predict how bad hurricane season will be based on the weather in northern Africa. LOL We did etymology with Harry Potter because she used a lot of Latin. My daughter is 17 and I have 3 boys 9, 7, and 4. I decided that open and go would be better for me in this season. I just can't keep up with the planning and the rest of life anymore. My oldest is doing mostly self-taught now, but the grading this year for her. Ugh. So we found TGTB and I printed up math and LA in October and haven't looked back. I would totally say go for the unit study if you are in a season when you have the time for it. My best memories with my oldest are the weird but fascinating things we learned by digging really deep into something on our own. I will probably do some small unit studies with my boys once a year so they can experience that too. I just can't do it all right now and something has to give. Love your videos!
Wow thanks for all the tips! Totally feeling like this is a season for me for sure... Not closing the door on TGTB just pressing pause for a bit! Xxx
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149 It is good to shake things up a bit sometimes. Keeps everyone on their toes. LOL
We did the Gather Round Christmas unit for the first time this year, and truthfully, I was not a fan. I cut out a few things and tweaked it for us. All in all it did however give me inspiration for next year.
I think I agree with you, I see some goodness and some inspiration but not overall a fan! Glad I am not the only one! Xxx
Have you checked out the well trained mind, it's based on a classical education its really enjoyable. welltrainedmind.com/?v=d2cb7bbc0d23, it gives more choice in literature.

So happy I came across this video
That was really interesting, thank you! I've been looking into online programmes to supplement curriculum and that was one of them so I was delighted to see your video pop up. Sounds like it might be a little over the head of my senior infant though so you've spared us the trouble of trialling it and then explaining to him why we're not buying it! Might look into it again next year. What's your experience of reading eggs? We're on day two of trialling it at the moment and it seems to be educational but a little.... annoying! :D
My senior infant loves reading eggs, maybe try Khan academy? It's quite fun and doesn't cost?
@@thatirishschoolhouse7149 Thanks :) yes, Kahn academy is super, we've been trying that out for the last few days too!
I just found your channel and I love it. Do you have an Instagram page ? I am new on this country and I want homeschool my child so I am lost. I am watching all your videos now thank you
No I don't have a homeschool insta! Happy homeschooling and welcome! X
