HOW TO BUY A GUITAR (FOR SOMEONE ELSE POSSIBLY)
Beautiful guitar! I have a Gibson P90 gold top but I’m hoping to get an Eastman SB59 gold top with humbuckers because I have 2 other SB59’s and can’t believe how amazing they are. I still love my Gibsons, but until I can justify buying a custom shop model, I will stick with Eastman. They’re incredible instruments.
Found a new old stock SB59-GD gold top with humbuckers and it’s another awesome Eastman. I love the Seymour Duncan 59’s but I now have 4 guitars with those pickups in them, so I’m going to have a set of low wind Mojotone 59 Clones installed in the gold top. Should sound even more awesome.
sounds fuckin great
You've just helped me decide between the FS3 and FS5 🙌. Same dilemma, one made in China and the other in Japan with small improvements and perks, but $500 more expensive.
You'll get that 5 back on resale.
What song are you playing at the end?
I agree. The fg3 plays just as well as the fg5
That title HAS a problem. Grammar police here, you've been cited.
Good rule, I might implement that.
Purchased an fg3 Red label for about $850. Plays as well as most guitars twice it's price
Pricing psychology 1.01. They create a ''structure'' - some place-holders for the buyer to evaluate the value. They want YOU as a player buying the A3. Serious beginners or upgraders with some money buy the A1, the very wealthy will buy the A5 (barely caring what the ticket price is). Recording artists might get the A5 sponsored. Most jobbing musicians will be V. happy with the A3 You point out that it's diminishing marginal returns the more you pay and yes live or recorded you'll barely hear any difference between the 3 or the 5, so.... as long as you go for the (quite pricey - but admittedly very good) A3 everyone is happy, they've squeezed some more cash from the A3 buyer. The A3 owner won't look and feel like they're at entry level.
Hey, I just got this guitar a few days ago for a good deal! I really like it, minus a few cons.. But anyway, question for you, are the push pull pots only for activating voice 1 and 2? I thought it would have coil split options but it doesn't seem to.
I've rarely ever comment on videos, but I bought same model a month back. Is my first headless guitar and blown away at what a fun guitar it is. Major note is that the shop did a full setup on it before I ever played it, so it was completely dialed in. Shop said quality can vary out of Indonesia, but when setup is solid, neck frets etc, it's really a great guitar. Neck is super comfortable, not too thin and pickups and selector options are great. I only use 4 out of the 10 options with pickups, but the pickups sound awesome. Totally agree with review. Only downside I have is the tuners aren't the highest quality. They aren't super smooth like traditional tuners on headstock guitars, but given the price of the guitar in the US totally understandable. If someone made a replacement set of tuners to upgrade that I could buy, would make the guitar nearly perfect. Felt like sharing because everyone hates on headless guitars and loves to perpetuate "All you need is a Tele" Go have fun and try something different.
00:28 I just bought the AC3R and I feel the same way. I have gone back and tried seemingly every guitar that could check all of my boxes. The Martin M36 was the closest I got to getting what I wanted. However, this little guitar is so good for it's price range, I really don't know how they do it. And the SRT2 system is the icing on the cake, it's such a good a versatile pickup system.
I bought this same guitar (well - the dark burst finish but otherwise same) in Japan and brought it back to the US. It cost me just under $700 US dollars which meant no import costs. It is a fine instrument - I wanted another acoustic to keep tuned down a 1/2 step. That said, my main is the Yamaha FGX5 made in Japan. It retails for around $1500 US although I got a like new used for just over $900. While I appreciate it isn't apples to apples, the quality and playability of the latter is superior. NOT BY MUCH, and you are correct when you say there are diminishing returns as you go up the price points. With great manufacturing occurring across the globe, this is something all the manufacturers are susceptible too. Nice playing :>
Wow, amazing sound and guitar player! Listening to you here in São Paulo, Brazil!
If it comes with reverse headstock more way cooler I suppose 😮
My FG830 had a loose saddle and a nut that fell off because it was never glued. I like the fact that Yamaha offers excellent guitars at an economical price by saving on replaceable parts that can be upgraded at little expense.
Excellent finger picking and the guitar sounds great.
I've got one and I love it. Flawless looks and tremendous tone variety with the Alnico2 pickups and tri sound switches. Light and easy to play. You can play rock or jazz with this equally well.
My dad bought me a duo sonic in 1965. It got stolen in 1971. I bought a new duo sonic hs in 2018. Great little guitar.
Any high end products can not be made in china. They never give all in to their production. And they love to cheat.
Jackson Sarah Johnson Amy Taylor Barbara
$2k!!!!!!! I have one and payed $1k
What was that clean song you played at 2.20?
watching this a month later after my A3R was stolen. Ugh I miss that guitar! 😫 It was my only acoustic electric. I recently borrowed a Taylor 214e DLX to play a gig. That guitar wasn't even in the same league as the A3R
nice plucking guitar..may i know..what song ?
I’m curious if the finish gets all shiny from touching like the ESP/LTD Black Metal series does. I have a LTD Black Metal M-FR and the finish got so spotty and shiny from use, I had to have my buddy repaint the entire guitar to a more touch-friendly finish.
Great review Bro!!! Thinking of Buying this guitar. Do you thing tuning it to drop A will be an issue? That's the tuning I'll play mostly.
I recently bought a LL26, hand made by a single luthier in Japan, the instrument is flawless , the sound is amazing !! Ive owned Taylors , Martins and Larrivee's , this Yamaha is simply amazing , i dont even play the Taylor 314ce anymore
Absolutely. I sold my Taylor 914ce and purchased both the AC3r and the AC5r. In my opinion the quality workmanship, playability, and tone of these Yamaha models equal guitars easily twice their price. I could not find a huge difference between the China and Japan models outside fancier inlays, Gotoh open tuners... To me they both play and sound alike.... Truly my favorite acoustics. I also own an L-6 and a mahogony parlor Yamaha model.
Is the AC5R noticeable better than a the AC3R to justify the higher price?
@@dustinglass Actually I play my AC 3 more often. Hard to tell other than visually as to the difference between the two.
I agree.. Honestly, I have the A3R and it is my FAVORITE of all the guitars I have owned and that covers Martin, Guild, Washburn, Alvarez (Yairi) PRS, Gibson, Taylor, Ibanez, and a $5K custom made guitar!!! ALSO, I prefer the A3R to the A5R as well..
Story about the skipping a piece of song is awesome , 10/10
Put Taylor 18:1 tuners on it and you'll love it even more
I’ve got a yamaha fg830 CE that is a pretty good guitar. Very nice playing on this video. I do hope to get an A 5r someday. I’ll probably see if I can sell my FG830 CE to help with the cost of the A5R. I’m currently saving up for a breedlove concert that sounds really good
It’s called the law of diminishing returns.
Hey man, by chance when did you purchase your instrument? Just got mine recently and feel like Ibanez narrowed the necks towards the nut in newer builds. I've seen some AZs that were built in 2021 that have very straight necks and fretboards that don't taper.
What model is it specifically?
Lovely picking melody ... .beautiful!!!
I’m hoping to pick one of these up in a day or two. Killer demo, that crunchy tone at the end is so nice.
Taylor and Martin have issues as well
Just bought an LL16 ARE and it's amazing for the price. All solid wood. Feels like a secret not many people know about.
Love 'em, I have two!
agree thats why i got fg3
Same Mine also beats Martins and my taylor
Bought this guitar Last year. The neck is a dream to play. Changed the pickups to Fender Tex Mex and installed vintage locking tuners, now it is perfect for me.
trying to figure out if the one of the A5s is as nice as the FG5, as I am reeeally not liking not having the cutaway. feels like a whole bit of the fretboard is going to waste
I know this comes in two models single coils and hum bucker -do you know if the split function on the hb model sounds the same as the single coil model--thx
I agree ! A few years ago I walked into a music store to see someone, the person said , I am busy but play this while you wait. He handed me The A3R and I sat and played it and waited. By the time he came back I was ready to buy the guitar. Mine has a deep sound and everyone who play's it , loves it. You are right !
Sold my IC400 the other day (the exact model Malakian had) and today, I ordered this one! An Iceman for an Iceman!
The problem you have is the ACR5 made in Japan is only $1600.00 in the US.
Just played a Ac1m this week that kicked the ass of the AC3 and AC5.....hanging right next to it on the wall. I could have had the AC1m for about 500.00 after 10% off.
Excellent video! I am RIGHT THERE WITH YOU on every point. I have an A3R and an LL16D. I couldn't be happier with them. I feel like I robbed the bank and bought a ticket to heaven. Yamaha guitars are a godsend.
