I think those DiMarzio D Activator pickups sound so much better than the 'Fusion Edge' ones they seem to use in a lot of models. Never really like the sound of any demos I heard with those. But these D Activators sound great, really nice and chunky but also clear. Had a similar set in a previous guitar, actually my first ever 7 string. A Jackson Chris Broderick signature model (not the pricey USA version but the normal one!). Pickups were described as Chris Broderick signature D Activators, so I guess they were customised to his tastes a bit. Wasn't that keen on the guitar overall but I did really enjoy the pickups. Funnily enough that was also a very black guitar, don't think there was anything that wasn't black aside from the frets. Chapman actually have a model called the 'Ghost Fret', I was kinda disappointed to see it doesn't actually have black frets :-\ It's cool to see you building up a small channel with some great reviews! Just started my own TH-cam journey recently and hoping to post some reviews soon. Always a bit nervous thinking my playing isn't gonna be good enough or people aren't going to like my voice or something stupid like that. Just have to be inspired by guys like yourself grinding away at it!
Yeah I do like the fusion edge, but the D activators I think are way more useable. And if you wanna do it, you just gotta do it man! I always think my playing is not good enough, and I always think the things I say are lame, but I just accept it and keep going. It aint much but its honest work ya know?
I always wanted an Iceman for the same reason, but indeed it's a big chungus of a guitar. If feels like it's big and weird to play the same way firebirds are.
Did you have to set it up? I have the xiphos 6 and 7 and they came so bad that one guitar needed to be Plek’d and the other needed shims under the nut.
It needed some set up, but nothing that drastic! Sorry to hear that, usually the Ibanez setups from factory are okay at least. Still, I bet your two gats absolutely rip now!
Username checks out hahaha Cut me some slack man, when you’re like 10 takes in to trying to make up a riff on the spot, sometimes you don’t hear the tuning drifting.

looks like the switch is meant to be activated with the forearm, I would experiment with that. also, this needs to be an 8 string at some point
