Beautiful people & conversation! Wow! Much respect 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Your the average of the 5 people you hang out with. Said in jest and moved past...that's an eye opener
Thanks! Great stuff guys. Again.
Alcohol is a big one!😂 2 weeks ago I ran into a lamppost head first. Broken nose and knocked unconscious. In for surgery to straighten my nose and to allow me to breathe through both nostrils again…6 weeks until any physical activity👍😢
Currently nursing a few injuries. I have a beautiful 8 month old son that doesn’t sleep well. As such My maximum recoverable volume has plummeted and I have picked up a few injuries. I genuinely put this down to extreme fatigue as I pulled my hamstring doing 10-15 miles a week having been very comfortable at 100 12 months prior
quality content congratulation
It was great to meet Shayne on the course at Cairns! It was my first IM too, and got it done. I didn't start with the weight that Shayne was carrying though, but it was still a huge challenge.
Congratulations on completing your first Ironman! 👏. It's a huge challenge for anyone, so a massive well done for getting it done. Glad you got to meet Shayne too.
I listened to the audio version, Shayne is an inspiration!
Thanks for the support Renee! Shayne's story is amazing.
@@omniaperformance Totally, I didn’t realise that you were coaching him til close to the race, he just popped up in my feed one day.
Absolutely love Shayne's journey. He's so sincere, put in the work and keeps pushing forward. Very inspirational interview. You mentioned Zwift - do you sell any workout plans for an Ironman for someone starting closer to where Shayne started? Don't have the bankroll for coaches, but got a Zwift setup with bike/run to start and can get a pool membership if I could loosely figure out what to do.
Great to hear you enjoyed the episode. Hopefully Shayne's story helps to inspire more and more people to get into these sort of challenges. Absolutely, if you have a look on our website, we have a range of training plans, one of which is the Strength + Full Distance Triathlon. The bike workouts include different Zwift options so you can get your sessions done on there. www.omnia-performance.com/training-plans
@@omniaperformance Thanks. That plan requires being comfortable with running 15km+, cycling 50km+, and can swim continuously for 500m+. I can't do any of these things, but I want to get there. I'll sign up for a pool and just begin running, biking and swimming. When I can hit that criteria I'll get the plan and will complete an Iron Man.
Fergus, thank you for featuring Shayne and his story on your podcast and for coaching him through his journey. Fortunately for me, the randomness of TH-cam intersected me with Shayne and his journey early on and I have been an enthusiastic follower. It seems a bit overly simplistic to describe Shayne's accomplishments as amazing or inspirational. To me, Shayne has embodied the idea of what is possible by faithfully putting in the work to get the job done. Along the way, he has certainly inspired many, however, to me that inspiration without the required dedication to the process is nothing more than a passing moment of entertainment. Your conversation with Shayne was awesome. You were able to capture the magnitude of the accomplishment while emphasizing the importance of the person that Shayne is.
So pleased you enjoyed the episode Shawn. Great to hear you came across Shayne's story early on and could follow his incredible journey along the way.
Been struggling with strength + 70.3. This was so helpful! I will be buying a training plan.
Great to hear you enjoyed the episode Ben. Enjoy the plan and best of luck with the rest of your training.
An absolute legend! Unbelievably inspirational!
Glad you enjoyed it Natalie. Shayne's journey is amazing.
Great video! I have a question about buying some of your training programs, is there a good place to send those and get a response?
Thanks James, glad you enjoyed the episode. Yeh if you send an email to info@omnia-performance.com then someone will get back to you on there.
Truly Inspirational Story. Anything is Possible! 🦾
Glad you enjoyed the episode Bobby. Shayne's story truly is amazing.
Hey guys, thanks for another great video. I was looking to purchase one of the training plans on the website and I wasn’t sure if I needed to purchase a coaching product as well or if I can just buy the training plan alone. Thank you.
Hi Kyle, glad you enjoyed the episode and great to hear you are interested in one of our plans. If you head to the website and click on the "Training Plans" section then you can explore the various options and buy as a one off purchase. Hope that makes sense and good luck with your training! This was great, thank you. Im doing strength + Olympic tri at the moment, it is definitely physically and mentally challenging, and you sometimes feel like you don’t have enough time in the day. But overall it’s really rewarding, and there are moments of great fun during training.
Amazing comment @Yiealo6372jd
Glad you enjoyed the episode and great to hear you are enjoying the Strength + Olympic plan. Balancing the 4 disciplines can certainly be difficult around everyday life, and it's something that everyone will struggle with at some point. Keep getting what you can done, enjoy the process and you will see progress. Best of luck with the rest of the plan 🙌
👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Kevin, appreciate the support.
Happened to listen to this on the way to Singapore to compete. Thanks, guys, I ate more carbs the day before than I have ever done ( I know I shouldn't have tried something new, but hey ), and it worked as I felt fueled.. was hard to get enough down me to be honest.
Great to hear Doug, glad it helped 🙌
Great video and discussion, have this issue... now! Thanks for the content - subscribed.
Thanks for the support Suran, glad you enjoyed the episode.
Hydration vests are allowed - water & electrolyte & carb drinks are an option
Fantastic content, and thank you so much for the valuable information. I have a question. Would this be more suitable for someone just willing to finish a marathon, or can it also be applied to someone wanting to achieve an, e.g., 2:45 marathon? I did 2:47 a few months ago and would like to run a 2:44 in November.
Hi Keno, glad you enjoyed the episode and thanks for getting in touch. It's not a simple yes or no answer unfortunately as there are lots of variables at play and everyone adapts differently. We have had many of our athletes complete sub 3 marathons whilst maintaining/improving their strength. Whilst you may have to reduce overall running volume to allow for the inclusion of progressive strength work, there is no reason to suggest why you couldn't run a 2.44, it would just require some good programming and monitoring of how you are reacting to the stimulus along the way. Hope that makes sense and feel free to get back in touch if any more questions. P.S Congratulations on the 2.47!
I love the hybrid trend. But it really does need some better definitions. In my humble opinion, to be “hybrid” ought to mean that you are Elite (or chasing elite) in two or more opposing skills. Your 500lb squat and 5min mile is a great example. Each one of these is extremely difficult on its own; and training for both at the same time slows the progress of both. Otherwise, if you merely lift weights and simply “finish” marathons, you are just a well rounded fitness enthusiast. Nothing wrong with that. It’s great. In fact it’s the correct approach for most people. I suppose I would like to see more benchmarks and standards. 🤷🏻♂️
Can't promise to not try and fight Jonny!
Spot on lads!
Bang on
Regarding omega 3 - I have read On a few papers that 2-4g is recommended for athletes, but having just bought Myprotein essential omega 3 it recommends 1-3capsules per day each with 300mg total omega 3 fatty acids. How much would you recommend as myprotein doesn’t seem to match up with the papers available online? Cheers! Loved the podcast!
Hi William, Glad to hear you enjoyed the episode. Yes ~1-3 g per day of EPA/DHA is recommend. Which is 1000mg-3000mg. So therefore you would be to taking 3 x 300mg of the myprotein dose to get close the recommended amount. You can also get Omega 3 from the following foods too; Cold-water fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, herring, and sardines and from nuts and seeds (such as flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts). Hope that helps and if you have any more questions then feel free to get in touch. Cheers, Tom
@@omniaperformance cheers tom! really appreciate your help
Thanks for the breakdown!
Glad you enjoyed Peter
So I finally committed to more zone 2 training 6 weeks ago, hated doing it because of how slow my pace was to achieve it (about 7:00/km-7:30/km) after only 6 weeks while steadily increasing weekly volume using easy runs, my zone 2 pace is now averaging around 6:20/km and I also hit a 10k PB recently! Zone 2 absolutely works I wish I swallowed the ego sooner! Have to remind yourself that you’re training a system and pace/times DO NOT matter
As a 50 yr old Mid Pack Ultra Runner since 2016. Zone 2 is my only way to get volume without injuries. Zone 2 is no joke with Mega training volume. Zone 2 can wear you out.
How long would you recommend focusing on aerobic building and then coming back to powerlifting or bodybuilding? Is there a benefit to shorter mesos 4 weeks? Or maybe longer 16-20 weeks then coming back to strength or hypertrophy focused?
Hi Drew, we wouldn't say it's necessary to go away and focus on aerobic work separately for a period of time. By following a structured and progressive approach, you could see gains in both strength and aerobic work. It also differs from person to person and how one reacts to each specific stimulus.
Wee Jonny Pain...he's the biggest "wee" guy we've ever seen !!! I wouldn't mess with Jonny

Just the topic I was hoping for!
Glad you enjoyed the episode Ryan.
Hey loves loving this conversation, I was wondering will you ever do an online hybrid training like the one you're doing in person this month? Living in Australia. Much gratitude Jaimee.
Great episode!!
Thanks Tobi, glad you enjoyed. Lots of episodes like this one coming soon...
Definitely an issue im struggling with myself (undereating that is - currently on a "cut" for summer - in reality im already beyone "beach lean" so at this point its really just a justification for myself - but I am currently running 10km every day, first thing in the morning, walking at least another hour minimum and in the gym 6 days a week for 60 min minimum and on 2,500 kcal daily avg and I know perfectly well that, while for a normal person this is plenty, even on a "cut" this is way too little for me but somehow its almost become a part of the "perfomance" itself in a way to keep up very heavy training while cutting hard. In a toxic way its rewarding; Dunno how to properly explain it - like "i can perform this well with such little fuel" - which im aware isnt sustainable. Im sure at its core its rooted in some sort of body dysmorphia but yeah, hard to beat although im working on it.) so this was a nice episode! Btw, what further complicates things is that, while id be lying if I said im making progress in the gym, I have barely gotten any weaker in the 7 weeks ive been on this regiment and my running performance on the other hand is actually improving (its really only the question how much more I could be improving with better food), all while im getting extremely lean at this point. Its just like mentioned early in this podcast, outside of training is where I really feel it more and more but the positive performance makes it even more difficult to increase food since technically everythign is going well so to speak. Silly first first world issues but hey :P Cheers lads.
Hey mate , I can relate too , although I have issues with reactive low blood sugar in the meals following training and this only happens when I'm cutting , do you have this also ?
These are proper hidden gems these
Appreciate the support 🙌

250km (155 miles) unbelievable....this is going to make the 500lb deadlift/ 5 min mile look like breeze
really enjoy the content, but it feels like the videos are a good bit quieter than most videos on this platform. struggle to hear you without significantly adjusting volume settings
Great episode
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed
