    I flew with a friend of mine back in the 76-77 out of a ski resort that in the summer was a hang glider meca. In state college Pa USA. I'm amazed that I had almost zero Drama flying mine I was 15 and my friend was 17 we'd load up his father's old station wagon and head out for the day he kept trying to give me lessons and kept Demanding I listened to everything he said. My first flight was great his first flight ended when he hit a ski lift cable with his jaw breaking it in several places. Second time out about a month later and his mouth wired shut ( which was great for me 😂) kept saying you got to do it the way I do it. Which he fell about 60 feet and broke both his legs and right hand I said Bobby if I take your advice anymore you'll get me killed. He always had bad luck and I always had great fun. California later 70's and early 80's was a blast. Miss those days

      Yes, we recognize the young people issue and some are making efforts to expose them to the hobby. Personally, I've been running a flight club at my local middle school for 6 to 8 graders. We have lots of fun and at least the kids have a chance to give the hobby a try. I agree the hobby has a lot to offer to spark interest in science, engineering, hand skills, and logical thinking. Great video! Thank you. A couple of questions: doesn't spraying water over the covered areas (to shrink the tissue) end up bleeding the lozange colors? What about the the nitrite dope? Can you apply over the shrunken areas without smudging the colors?

    • @Watchingthevideos99
      @Watchingthevideos99 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. The key to the process is the Epson Durabrite ink. That ink is waterproof so not affected by spraying with water. And you can also use dope or Krylon to seal the tissue without a problem of bleeding. It's possible to use other inks, but you need to seal them with a spray of Kylon piror to covering but you won't be able to water shrink. Thanks for watching!

    John, why glue each rib? If you do the perimeter, shrink and dope, the dope will attach the tissue to each rib.

    • @Watchingthevideos99
      @Watchingthevideos99 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's why this video is titled "a slightly different approach" 😁 I've used the process you describe for 50 years, but first, this model was finished with Kylon not dope. I find gluing to each rib reduces the chances of warping during the shrink since you have individual panels rather than the power of one big panel shrinking. The Mt Fuji tissue has a pretty strong pull. It also doesn't work really good with dope as an adhesive. With Esaki on a smaller model, I would likely follow your process but on a recent project, I used my video process but didn't glue every rib and had great results. This process allows the wing to be flat on the bench when the tissue is first applied providing a perfectly flat wing. Whatever works best for you. Thanks for watching.

      Yes, we appreciate what you say and it's certainly a difficult situation. I run a model airplane club for the kids at my middle school to at least introduce them to the hobby. Some are actually quite intrigued, and you can see they never are exposed by social media or their parents to a hobby like ours. This flies beautifully! Too well for the roof beams.. A wealth of detail for basic tech here. I am somewhat envious of you John, for that beautiful narrow blade carving knife, and your prodigious skill in it's use. I bet this tool is a much prized one. The use of tape to mark bend points in wire is a great tip! Scrappy may be capable of being built mostly from the contents of the scrap box, and she may be apparently simple, but in build quality and flying performance she's much more than scrappy! Perfect film for basics. You make prop carving look easy!! Nice one John. 🌟👍

    That red and black high wing around 1.25 was the smoothest flying aircraft I've ever seen.

    What a great opening scene, a pilot and his young copilot watching the miracle of flight. Another fun video and involving the young people is great to see, they are completely involved. Looking forward to the winter series and thanks for doing these videos.

    Really enjoyable and a great standard! Two nice things, amongst many you get with indoor meets are the possibility of better interaction with other fliers and, definitely on show here, the nice landings on the smooth floor! Thanks John, this is excellent! 🌟👍

      You're welcome. And excellent observation. Indoor flying is actually quite social with the modelers walking around chatting about current projects, or watching each other fly. There's also always a bit of "egging" that gets us all laughing. Thanks for watching.

      Cliff, the very first shot is my Scrappy ROG. The first session I tend to be busy signing people up for the season. Plus try to get some video. You know how that goes. 😂The Annular plane is quite amazing. So stable and slow! Thanks for watching.
