Two Executive SD70MACs leading coal trains, plus four trains on the BNSF Joint Line in Fall 2023!
With many of BNSF's SD70MACs recently going into storage, I figured I needed to show these old "Burlington Northern" workhorses some well-deserved appreciation! In this video, we see two of the SD70MACs in the Executive paint scheme, both leading separate coal trains. Hopefully, we will see these beautiful locomotives on the rails again in the future.
1. EB BNSF coal load - Rocky Ford, CO (with BNSF #9687 leading the way!)
2. EB BNSF intermodal - Avondale, CO
3. EB BNSF intermodal - Pueblo, CO
4. SB BNSF coal load - Bragdon, CO (with BNSF #9650 leading! One of the few remaining SD70MACs with a near perfect BNSF pinwheel on the nose!)
5. EB BNSF autorack - Avondale, CO
6. SB BNSF autorack - Wigwam, CO

Welcome to Trains 5.9!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the video.
I generally film trains on the Union Pacific / BNSF Joint Line in Colorado, but I also travel farther south to catch trains on the BNSF Southern Transcon in Texas and Arizona, as well as the Union Pacific Sunset Route.
Thanks again!

A great way to shift freight. I am amused by the US trains rated as fast, here in the UK the freight trains are running in between passenger traffic running at 125 mph so they have to get their skates on. Running speed is normally 75 mph and we even have parcel trains comprised of electric sets based on passenger trains running at 100mph. And taking a leaf out of North American railroads we are building longer and longer consists to shift stuff off the roads. Unlike the US and Canada freight runs under OLE and there is a push too extend the wires to ensure more move away from diesel to faster electric traction.

Definitely the Sunset Route! It stays really busy down there but the Joint Line has its days, as well. Lately, there have been quite a few trains over a 24 hour period here.

@@trains5.9 I'm close to the Joint Line near Denver. I enjoy this route but the trains seem sporadic. How do you know when trains will be coming, do you use a radio? Thank you.

@@5thman677 you’re welcome! And yes, I use a Yaesu FT-25 scanner. It’s also a dual band scanner so you can enter channels into it that can monitor the EOT frequencies and let you know when a train is getting close. But being close to Denver, it tends to pick up lots of the yard channels as well!

You filmed some of this in Maricopa, AZ? I'd like to visit the area, looks like Maricopa, AZ is the place to see the Sunset Route.

Yes! There’s lots of shots from there. If you get a chance, you should try to get some action there one day. Definitely an awesome place! Also, further west near Gila Bend, Mohawk and Tacna is really scenic as well, if you like the desert!

Again I'm Completely Speechless. To see this again, cuz I did this with my eyes decades ago and with Reg 8mm film way before credit card size Phone/ cameras. The power ya feel when yer right up there as they go by at 65 or 70. Get back in the car and Race/haul ass to get in front of it again and again and again. Totally Beachin'. WHO CARES ABOUT THE HEAT, YA GOTTA GET THE MONEY SHOT. If ya can't handle the heat get the hell outa the kitchen.

Thank you! And absolutely, definitely one of the best feelings chasing the trains. Especially, like you mentioned, having to speed down the road to get back in the chase!

7:00 Amazing 8 locomotive lashup! Also, did you do okay with the smoke?

Thanks! And yes, the air definitely had a strong smell of smoke but breathing wasn’t really an issue!

Also do you know what was causing the locomotives to bounce?

    • @trains5.9
      @trains5.9 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I believe there's a small dip in the tracks right before the crossing. Those locomotives definitely bounce through there. Next time, since I have a better camera, I will get a shot from the distance so you can see it head on!
