Absolutely, I’m too young to remember truck dealers back in the day but I remember looking at old trucking catalogs that my grandpa had and I just imagine that this is what it would have looked like. Just need to get all these running for it to be even better!

@@CLGarage Those awaiting collection, but I guess they need to be kept inside & clean unit they are paid for!! That leaves the best of those currently outside nearer the building, although the lefthand one currently on on the new row is fairly presentable. BUT I'm not there to see and really, it is none of my business!!😁

You are correct as far as the nice ones inside, I’d like to say they stay clean inside but they still get dirty just not as fast. Plus right now everyone is starting harvest which really ramps up the dust. My main goal is to periodically move them around so the locals don’t complain about them so it looks like they are doing something but haven’t had any complaints yet. Looking at the way this truck was set up I don’t believe it was originally a car hauler. I’d like to do some more research on it looking at the vin to see its history if I can. Also the way that it was built as of today’s standers there is no way I would have put a car on it. So I do plan to restore it but it may not stay the way I got it. But it will be done tastefully.

The ride isn’t bad from what I’ve driven it and I’d love to hear it under a load too but maybe I can have the customer take a video of it pulling a load and share it at a later time.

That’s a fair opinion, we did actually purchase some cause the original single exhaust had one but we didn’t know if the customer would want them so we were going to let them decide when they pick up the truck and we can throw them on quick!! Great minds think alike.

Thank you, but Travis has done so much of the hard work so he really deserves most of the credit. Putting trucks back together whether it’s polished or painted parts is always nerve racking but taking your time always pays off, and having a second pair of hands!!

That’s a great thought, we did have that idea too at one point, then we just decided to reuse the one we had from another truck but now we will need some for Tina our Peterbilt Cabover. So in the long run we may still need to visit that idea and have a few of them made for future projects!! Thanks

I did contact a few salvage yards but all the trucks that style with the exhaust mounted to the back of the cab were already picked through. I even looked for the brackets that mounted to the cab corners but all the trucks I looked at only had single exhaust. I even contacted some of the name brand exhaust companies and asked directly with no luck. Even talked with freightliner but their records don’t go back that far anymore on some of those items.

So someone else preset the fender height and we just had to put them on and wire in the lights. They do have tall 24.5 tires on it so they can’t go much lower. They will be pulling the goose neck trailer with this truck so clearance shouldn’t be a problem.

Yes, there is no doubt there is a lot of work to be done. But as crazy as we are we will try our best!!

No baffles, strait to the moon they are. The good thing is they won’t be going coast to coast with it, just some local places.

Yes, instead of buying one off the shelf from a store I would have one custom made so we wouldn’t have to do that again. I will say the truck does get better looking with other add ons.

Plan on it, the front panels got painted over for some reason so we are going to try and remove that white paint and hopefully expose the stripes that are still underneath.

Yeah we plan to do some spit shining on the old boy and bring him back to life. Still work to be done out there when all these new electric trucks melt down.

Well you made the right choice getting a Kenworth. I’d say they are the easiest at this point for finding parts that are still available or interchangeable. With that being said I previously worked at a Kenworth dealer for 15 years so I use my local Kenworth dealer for a lot of the items I need whether it’s OEM or aftermarket. Also with the old cabovers especially I’d say about 65% of items are still attainable and the other 35% will either need to be fabricated, repaired, or found in a salvage yard from a donor truck. For example one of the cabovers that I have needs new windshield rubber seals and no one the country has any so I’m gonna have to get creative to figure that one out. I don’t know how badly damaged your dash is but if you can’t repair it I would suggest a salvage yard.

The interior is what sold me on it, super clean and doesn’t smell at all which is unheard of.
