After 27 years of marriage and a 10 year old boy, we now have a small pocket trawler just the right size for the three of us. It is named the Beach Donkey, a 26 foot C-Dory Venture, and we are taking it on many family adventures. Come join us!
Who goes to Bimini Bahamas in the Winter?!
Well, let us show you what it is like in Bimini Bahamas when you visit in January. The water is a little chilly, but the people are very warm.

It was not our normal time of year that we usually enjoy the islands, but this was a deal we just couldn't pass up. In addition, we had the opportunity to join 7 of our friends on a trip that was definitely an adventure.
We stayed at the Hilton Resorts World Bimini, which was simply luxurious! We enjoyed amazing conch salad at Joe's Conch Shack, ask for Derek.
Snorkeling on the southernmost tip of the island proved to be exciting as we swam with a stingray and barracuda. www.sharkbanz.com @Sharkbanz-Official
Of course, no adventure would be complete without our Bimini crew spearheading a rescue of a seaplane off a sandbar. The best part of the trip, by far, were the meals we had at Big Game and the bull sharks we met there. Our next trip to Bimini we will probably stay at Big Game. It was a better fit.

Thanks to Hurricane Elsa, our original plans to explore Marco Island to the Keys and possibly the Dry Tortugas were canceled. Instead, we had a great weekend in Steinhatchee where we scalloped every day and enjoyed our own personal fireworks display 2 nights in a row!

The wife and I have been doing winter in the Bahamas for a while now. This year we were in Bimini and Cat Island in November, Stella Maris Long Island for New Years. Bimini has changed the most of any out Island, this was our fourteenth trip to Bimini in twenty three years. Fly Fast and Live Slow!

We had a brand new 23 Venture. Now I'm looking at the 26, with twin engines only or the Tomcat. But I really want a Helmsmen 38E. Little differences in price though.

Not yet, John. Thanks for asking. We are still looking. Planning on going to St. Pete Boat Show in January. Maybe there? Still have one more C-Dory video to release. Look for it this weekend. 😉
How warm was the sea water in January? Could you just walk in or was it a bit chilly?
That boat is cute, it has everything. Do you have binoculars to see sand bars? Does sonar pick them up?
We do I keep binoculars on the boat. We also are pretty good at reading the waters since we both have grown up around sandbars. The coastal navigation charts also are usually pretty accurate. Not sure if sonar can pick up sandbars.

Three people can sleep comfortably. The 4th person has to sleep on the floor. We even have brought a full size blowup mattress and fit it on the aft deck. It was a little too damp in the morning for that, tho.

We are still looking. 😉 Thanks for asking. We have a small vintage Boston Whaler we are trying to restore. But the big boat is elusive at the moment.

We're happy to see you got to see the Dome Homes before they fell into the ocean during Hurricane Ian. We saw them a few years ago as well and it was a great experience. It was nice to meet you at the Florida Cavern State Park a few months ago. Happy adventuring to you all!
I was so sad to hear they fell during Ian. I imagine it would be a good place to snorkel or dive now tho. We just watched your Fort Clinch video. Loved it!! I am sorry for the delay in a reply, but to answer your question, we are looking for something a little bigger. Our son is growing and it's a little small for the three of us at times, especially on longer trips. Thanks for asking;)

Sorry for the delayed reply. We are still looking for the next Beach Donkey (something a little bigger). In the meantime, we have taken our adventures on land in our new Rockwood Roo. Hello! We saw your boat down off of Tavernier Key in the Florida keys this weekend! We were excited to meet yall, then realized it wasn't you. Loll! We didn't know you had sold the boat. My husband and I watch your videos as we may possibly consider a C-Dory in the future. We currently have a 23ft SeaFox Walk around cuddy. The couple yall sold it to were nice folks. They recently boat the boat, and said they had started a new TH-cam channel and were going to chronicle their adventures like yall did. Do you know the correct name of their channel? Hi Kristy 🤗 I guess the cat is out of the bag. 🤣 Yes we sold the Venture in January to the lovely Serpa family. We had such a good feeling about them getting her that it felt like it was the right time and perfect couple. We are in the process of getting a little bit bigger boat. Our son is growing and so are our boat needs. We have moved into another chapter…we purchased a Rockwood Roo for land adventures. I’m super behind in our boat trip videos and am trying to catch up. Once I’m done with those, I will move onto the trips we have had so far this year in the Roo. I have to say, we miss our Cdory. She is a one of a kind and gave us adventures with our son that we will never forget. 🥰 I know they told my husband the name of their channel, but I cannot remember. I will find out tonight and let you know. I know their last name is Serpa. Super nice people. Definitely Cdory worthy. 😉

We love the Cdory!! While we try to avoid rough waters, when we have had to encounter them, it handled it surprisingly well. The Roxborough is a deeper V so probably handles rough waters better. That being said, the Beach Donkey has never let us down.

Hello Jessica. First - love your videos, really appreciate the beautiful still photos plus video action of your days at sea or enjoying a destination; we live on the gulf coast and plan to buy a cabin cruiser of some sort, so your videos give us great ideas! I do have one request/ suggestion: the volume on your videos is really low when you narrate and comment, but then you drop in really (REALLY) loud music to accompany footage, so I find myself constantly having to adjust volume so as not to disturb the neighbors. I'd so much appreciate it if you could find a way to keep the decibels in the same general range. Thank you for sharing your family's joy with the rest of us :-)

How much would that boat sell for?
It really depends on a lot of factors. The boat comes without an engine, electronics, etc. So depending on how it is outfitted it could range from 130’s to 170’s. We looked at other boats with a lot more bells and whistles that are trailerable. They were easily twice the price that we paid. The value of this boat far exceeds the cost, in our opinion. Thanks for the good question.

The manufacturer is C-Dory in Washington, USA. They do not retail. We purchased ours in 2019 from retailer in Florida, the price has gone up since then. I believe they run around 165k and usually come without electronics. However, don't quote me on the $$$. It is a great, versatile boat!!

We carried a Yeti 65 on the aft deck, which also served as a table, seat, etc. lol
In a previous video, you mentioned reading on the roof. How do you get up there? I cannot wait to see you boat next week! So excited.

Those teak squares look great! Why don't you replace the carpet with them? It would give the boat a classic look and feel.
We thought about it but as you move further towards the bow of the boat, the floor is curved a little. It’s the hull of the boat and takes in that shape. The back is flatter. We’ve actually talked about putting down some type of teak looking sea deck instead of carpet. I definitely agree that the teak wood is a much nicer look and feel.

Great video for planning my own outfitting! Thanks. We recently bought a 2019 26 Venture and are prepping it at our Colorado home for a Great Loop trip next year. Would you mind sharing the company in Gainesville that did your cabinet storage setup? Very nicely done! Amazes me that NMI does nothing to help owners utilize those 2 empty caverns. I’m not willing to do the plastic tote shuffle while living aboard for nine months. ;-)

They are the builders of Great Harbour Trawlers, etc. The owner is also a personal friend of my husband's family for many years. How do you sleep 4 adults on your C-Dory?
Lol good question. Two in bow berth, one on salon berth, and one on the floor with sleeping bag&bean bag. One night we did put a full size blowup mattress in aft deck with netting all around. However it was too damp at night for that.

Dayna, We are so glad that this video was helpful for you! Our water tank is 30 gallons and the gas tanks (there are 2) are 50 gallons each. There was a blackwater tank of 9 gallons but when we switched out the head to a composting head it was removed.

@@daynaserpa9082 Hope Nicole moves quickly past your area. We are in Alachua and have had wind gusts on and off so far. No rain yet. I am confident it will be diminished by the time it comes thru our area. We are landlocked, which is one main reason we chose the CDory. We can trailer it, with ease, anywhere and explore. We just went out of Jacksonville to Jekyll Island last weekend for the Shrimp & Grits Festival...it was a blast. Also it was a very beautiful area to cruise. We will definitely be doing it again. We keep the Beach Donkey on our property in a covered garage, so it is secure and out of the elements.
