no clickbait no personal stories no pointless blabbering Thank you so much for delivering condensed information <3
Thank you, most of my video's are like this, but it hasn't caught on it seems, people seem you love hearing chat and wasting the internet.
Hi, Are those rear lights orange tops? Self tinted? Most of missed a video? Cheers
I did a whole 'How to' video showing mk2 and mk3 rear being done at a friends place in the UK. Unfortunately due to time and the Sun the all red tint does turn yellow/orange. They still don't look bad and a bit different.
I'm working with a mate on his golf doing a 2.0 8v na, but we are stuck not finding any basemaps, all the old forum links are dead. Do you happen to know where you got it?
I do not unfortunately, where about's are you?
Can you still keep your steering wheel hazard light button and operating from both??
I'm not sure.
Beautiful car
It sure is! I think he may have sold it.
is the light intenisty in the switches stil working ? or on the dash ? if now , how can you do that ? with a resistor or something ? int the main light switch ?
Yes the standred dimmer in the light switch does still dim these LED's slightly.
👍👍This is the best video I've seen on doing this, is it the same process on t5 174 bpc engine .had new cam lifters and injector seals done about 3years ago but think injectors need replacing as getting white smoke and smell of diesel in the exhaust fumes like its over fuleing .
Please check the 'live date' coolant temps first, check from cold and compare the air temp to the coolant temp, should only be slightly off from each other, and check once warm at 90C on the dash and see if the ECU temp is the same. These go wrong a lot.
Hey great vid! i got a question, i have a 1986 golf mk2 cl and i wonder if there is a way to turn off the lights aka parking lights and low beams, because when i change in between the light modes it goes from low beam to parking lights and then low beams again, the only way to turn them off completely is to turn off the ignition and i want that to be possible when the ignition is on.
Where are you from, North America? That doesn't sound right. Maybe to have a +12v going to the light switch are grey/blue wire.
@@RestoDesignsnando im from Sweden and the thing is that I think it is a law that u have to have some short of light on when driving and I don’t want that.
@@motopat06 Ok yes I see, well you have two options, 1 you buy a "normal" mk2 light switch and wiring loom that goes to the fusebox, 2 you try you see where the "key in +12v" power is coming from to the lights, then cut that power. If you need a light switch and wiring loom CE2 fusebox I have that in stock and will list it on the website if you need it.
@@RestoDesignsnando thanks il try!
Where to buy that housing for pollen filter??
From our site, restodesigns.com, but wait as I have a new designs coming this week which will use a i10 pollen filter as the mk2 ones are becoming very hard to find these days, and due to the age of them and being new old stock the foam seals are falling apart.
Thanks bro, you gave a reason..
My pleasure
what exact model is that computer with an aluminum case, is it in the golf 3 or does it have to be requested from something newer and also which transmission is most suitable to be 6 speed for afn engine, is it from golf 4 some afn 6 speed or what? Thank's
After turning the engine over twice and getting back on to the TDC notch, you need to pin the camshaft again to confirm it's accuracy of being correctly timed.
Can you sort my abf mk1 runs but it’s not right. What’s your location
I'm not in the UK unfortunately.
Ugh, hate doing this every time but I know its doable. Only one way to replace that stupid new style rear main seal carrier though... I have no clue why VW changed it to have a rubber strip along the bottom. It just gives me nothing but trouble.
Hi, are those T5, B2 or B8 lights? Asking because if I google it, those are the different types I get... thanks for the video BTW
I did a mk2 video watch has a link to the site I got them from, I can't remember unfortunately which ones they were.
Mate this is legendary, was about to do a steering column overhaul with the usual bearings found on VWheritage and the like, but I found that like 90% of the play in my steering wheel is caused by this exact bearing you 3d printed. Definitely ordering one from you soon! Just a quick question, for replacing the shear bolts what size bolt do you recommend? Would like to get them beforehand so I can do the quick swap instead of taking the shear bolts out and then having to run to the parts store to get new bolts for it. Should the bolt that goes through your 3d printed bearing also be replaced or should that be fine as is? Thanks again mate!
Thank you mate, the bolts you need are m8x1.25 and about 20 to 25mm long and have a 13mm head. At a minimum get 8.8 bolts, just you can find 10.8 or 12.8 then even better. One need to replace then lower bolt and nut. 👍🏼
Thanks for this video! Absolutely A+! I was able to restore my steering column
Glad it helped!
Complete Wrong montage !
Could use a 3 jaw puller on the hub, and torch the struck inner race to expand it. Update: Now that I've done it already, a three jaw puller is all that is needed, to pull the hub and the stuck inner race(gripping it, depends on how sharp the jaws edges are, and needs a tiny clearance). Was worried of torching the abs sensor or the disassembly(and breaking it in the process) of it before hand😢. Could save some time and worries(of chiselling the sub axle shaft).
Yeah use a torch and melt your abs sensor in the process.
yep totally true about the puller, but this is a DIY video and so most people will have a grinder if it came to the inner race being stuck, which it mostly does.
yep good point,
is gt1749va bolt-on to a 1z engine? I know i need to convert to VNT operration, but like can it fit 1z exhaust manifold without mods
more or less yes, It has to be a VA from the VW Passat or Audi A4, You will also need the manifold as well.
I did this on mine, but still getting a metallic grinding noise when depressing the clutch pedal, what could that be then?
The description of this project basically described mine. A 82 gti with a rushed abf that had part of the wiring done and the rest left on the floor. No coolant pipes and a downpipe. Would love to have it finished off for me
Just pop it over to Portugal and I'll sort it out for you. 😉
@RestoDesignsnando wanna holiday in Ireland? 🤣

Boas amigo, para fazer essa alteração num polo 6n basta mudar o cubo e a ponteira tambem?
Hello Sir, ive watched your series on the bon jovi mk3. After watching i went ahead and did the same mods as you on my passat b3. The car is swapped to a afn from a mk3, i did the same turbo, as well as .230 nossles, 11mm pump, decat and egr delete, However, ive run into a problem. My mate cant seem to get his kess to communicate with the ecu. Was the map you had done with the desoldering of the chip? From what ive found on the web only some of these afn seem to be able to be obd remapabld, but finding info seems difficult. If you have and info you can share id greatly appreciate it! Regards Jonas from Denmark 😁
Hi Jonas, the only AFN that I know that can be mapped from the OBD port are later ones from the Golf mk4 90 & 110hp and Seat 6k2 90 & 110hp, those are not engine code AFN as they use the later blocks with the water pump driven off the timing belt. Yes the chip in the Bon Jovi was soldered in.
No Torque wrench for ANYTHING?.....
nope all done by feel.
Great job. I've done this about 50 x myself. But it's great watching someone else do it. I used blue Leds to match my radio
Thanks for watching, it really does make the car that little bit nicer to drive/use, blue idea using the blue led's, nice touch. 👍🏼
Did you mod the air filter box? I think you put different one maybe?
Yes this car has a Seat Ibiza 6K ABF airbox.
@@RestoDesignsnando Do you think it's the biggest because someone says Seat Toledo Abf have the biggest or are they the same? Have you polished it inside?
The combustion chamber is the biggest flow limitation on these engines. The valve angles and shrouding is terrible.
Yep totally agree, the narrow angle of the valves are terrible with the exhaust valves at 90º to the pistons and the inlet with only a slight angle, the engine being 'under square' also doesn't help the shrouding issue. But I stand by the inlet manifold, as it's first in line air flow wise. Had cars come in trying to hit 200 with cams, head work and pistons and it's almost impossible, I've only ever seen 2 engine hit that(doesn't main there isn't more) with a ABF inlet on. I know the guys from South Africa are doing some crazy stuff with BMW 84mm pistons and TDI cranks.
Nice work man
Thanks mate👍🏼
Did you port match the lower inlet on the side that meets the head? On test drive was there any real world difference with the bum dyno?
I felt a slight improvement at light throttle. 👍🏼
How do you put this setup in a 92 GTT please.
Love all the 3D printing.👍😊 keep up the good work and the videos😊😊😊
Thanks so much 😊
Is it neccessary to add a plate before you put on the stub axel? And, is it neccessary to add the anti roll bar when doing this conversion?
No need to put the plate, I just did to widen the rear and no you totally don't need to fit the rear anti roll bar. I did you improve the handling due to the drum cars not having a rear anti roll bar in the beam like the GTI's have.
Beautiful, looks OE. I have a 84 Rabbit GTI with a 9a 16v swap running Microsquirt.
Nice, a 9a short block with a euro inlet cam with MS working really really well.
Scirocco mk2
I have no idea what you're on about, it's a mk1 Golf 🤣🤫
Golf mk1 aka scirocco mk2 😂
shhhhhhh 🤫 it's a red mk1.
Did you say your abf chips takes out the immobiliser problem?
Yes they do. 👍🏼
Awesome man 👌I got a 4 door mk1 with ABF conversion, little machine 😊from South Africa
I've seen what you guys. get up to in SA, crazy stuff with the 2.2 ABF's
good video mate! question please: don't we change only the bearing??? I never heard someone saying you should change the hub especially on the rear
This is how they come on the mk4 platform cars, the polo 6n2 is the same setup nut in 4x100, and from the m5 onwards it's like this front and rear.
I watched your video and I change the rod and release bearing thinking that was the problem as the clutch pedal stays down and wasn’t that the problem at all And just so you and everybody know this don’t need to take the clutch lever of like you did just remove the plastic clip and it will fall down . When I remove the clutch cable and try the clutch lever it is spring and releasing back as it should Now I think the problem is the clutch cable so I’m going to buy one and see what it does which I think 99.9% that is the problem .
Is there a torque spec for that nut?
To jak vypadá to auto a v jakem je stavu to vše je na lakovnu a ne na leštění. Jinak to chce nový lack
Hey man, big fan of what you do and share here . I am actually Portuguese 🇵🇹 and live in north of Aveiro district. Are you living close by? Where do you work and are based ? Cheers n keep it up 👍
Thank you, unfortunately I am not near.
The G60 golfs had different intercoolers depending on whether they had aircon or not.
oh ok that makes sense 👍🏼
Nice build. I just converted my 2.0 16v rabbit GTI to Microsquirt, previously used CIS-lambda with a modified CPR and a wideband controlling the frequency valve.
wow Nice, 👍🏼
Thanx!!!
Glad you found this helpful👍🏼
I have the Motronic 9a but wish I could find some ABFs for a decent price in the USA. You are always working on really cool projects and do a nice job on it.
Use an ABA bottom end
@@GTIFabric I have an ABA bottom end for a future 16v turbo build. It would just be so nice to have the ABF with all the EFI components and management etc. The 1.8t head on the ABA is also something I am considering. The 9A 16v head is actually a pretty bad design.
Thanks, you can make a clone using ABA and 9a parts, then just get all the inlet stuff from Europe and use the standalone ecu.
yes all the KR, PL 9A, 6A ACE ARL and ABF have a poor design head unfortunately, seem to make good torque and very easily get to 180hp flywheel and then costs loads to past that point.
What is the exact type of the pump?
