what a great adventure!🤩 Thanks for walking us
Another YT creator Dave Ostle has done the wainwrights and just completed the outlying fells.
@@Muddipaws1308 Yes I've watched some of his videos. I completed the Outlying Fells about 10 years ago or so, but many of them are great hills in their own right... well worth a visit at any time! Cheers Alistair 👍
I so remember this did in 2021, and what a slog that is, absolutely relentless, and it was seriously warm. I could see the Isle of Man. Loved it, I never quite got to the top, it became so hot, I was concerned for the dog as there is no cover. I could just see the trig and decided to head back down and to the sea front.
@@Muddipaws1308 So pleased you had a good day for your ascent 👌 It's a fantastic viewpoint, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment ATB Alistair 👍
When you mentioned sellafield reminded me of when i lived in holmrook near to it,used to fish in river irt there.I loved it when lived in rydal though stunning there, thanks again alistair looked a good video.
@@erictowler74 Thanks Eric, Hugh Falkus used to fish there back in the day. I seem to remember a programme on the BBC featuring him. Rydal is a special place, sadly just so busy these days. Thanks so much for watching and commenting it's much appreciated, ATB Alistair 👍
@@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad yes vaguely remember Hugh falcus had a good head of white hair if I remember, there was a large fishpool in centre of Holbrook used to catch flounder and even a sea trout salmon parr I think.Rydals beautiful but yes lots of people that's the problem with stunning spots though, thanks Alistair.
Some great views Alistair, lived in Holmrook for a couple of years
@@grahamtowler1761 That's a lovely place Graham... albeit a bit busy in the Summer months these days. It's a shame the cloud came in, Black Combe has great views on a better day . Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment ATB Alistair 👍
Hi Alistair. Lovely video as always. Looks like you had slightly better views than I did but still it’s a cloudy bugger. 🤣 I need to get back up then on a nice day. My mate Dave Ostle has just finished the outlying wainwrights. He’s got videos of them all, well worth a watch. Just tell him I sent you. 😃 All the best mate. Dave ⛰🥾

@@grahamtowler1761 Hi Graham, it's a pretty waterfall, relatively quiet considering it's location! As someone who lives in nearby Millom, it has always amazed me how few people know of or visit one of the best preserved stone circles in the country. Regarding the Giants Grave and the crop marks, the two stones are midway between two massive circular enclosures which can be seen on google earth. Much more research needs to be done to understand the importance of this area. Thanks for your video. Andy

@@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad Magna Frisia, or Greater Friesland, was originally an area stretching from the Zwin in Belgium to the River Weser in Germany. The earliest mention of the Frisians comes from Roman sources, especially Tactticus, who describe them as a powerful group of tribes along the North Sea. After the fall of the Roman Empire, in the early Middle Ages, Friesland began to form its identity as a significant and independent territory under King Redbat. Boudica and Beowolf are said to be related to this strong Frisian lineage of tribal leaders. It is thought that the old friezes originally came from Denmark, Norway and Germany. tactticus describes them as a combative people who mainly engaged in farming in the summer and went on raids together with groups of Vikings in the quiet winter times.(from the book fryzen om uttens)
