The Mariners Have A New Hitting Coach. But Will Anything Change?
I don't hate this move...is that a good thing?
Is there any reason to believe Crawford is more likely to hit than Polanco?
They’re both probably in the same boat. But Polanco has such a track record of hitting that it feels like a solid bet that he’ll bounce back
i like polo. with good health he should definitely have a better year than last year. maybe not all the way back to where he was but yeah 110-115 isn’t crazy to hope for
2024...213 avg with a 29% strikeout rate...has played 24 games at 3rd w/4 errors....career 917 games w/110 errors...7.75M??? lol...total shit show...hope I come back to eat my words...$40M for Haniger, Garver and Polanco...Jesus
Lyle cut the fanboy bs...seriously
What did you want them to do at third base instead?
7 million spent on not watching him crush our dreams with Houston 😂
Well… that’s one way to look at it 😂
Instead Walker will, whom the Mariners should have gotten but were too cheap.
We wanted Juan Soto and Roki and we get Jorge and Luis Castillo. For real I’m not mad he’s back. We are better than yesterday. Hopefully he pops.
Yeah, feels like a smart move. And think there’s a real world where he turns it around
The fact that the cheating Astros wanted him and was denied... Makes me happy
Can we stop a ball at 3rd? He couldn't at 2nd and is awful defender. Decent bat if he can bounce back. But 2025 mariners is basically we need bounceback candidates with Polo Garv and Hanny.
He was an awful defender last season playing with hamstring issues and patellar tendon injury for most of the season. Combine better health with a s position that doesn’t require quite as much athleticism and I could see him as slightly below average.
Yeah honestly I think the odds that garver and polanco bounce back are both pretty high (barring injury)
If he can play 3rd its worth a Shot... why not
Not mad about it. He turned down Astros, brownie points for me. Plus, he was having a better second half for sure. If we don’t like his defense then we can make him DH. He actually profiles as a good DH in my opinion. Just wish this team would actually spend money smh..
Also, keeping the core is kind of nice. Rebound year for Garver and Polanco and the whole team pretty much? They all went through it together, that may make them all the more mentally able to get through things. Let’s just hope they make good moves by trade deadline if last year tendencies begins to rear its head again.
Bounce-back candidate, some experience hitting in Seattle under his belt, moved off of 2B, and got him back for cheaper too. 🤷🏻♂️ We could've done worse, now we gotta hope he stays healthy (and *doesn't* play half of the season on a re-blown knee).
I hope they go get JT to complete the offseason. Not in love with the offseason, but at least they have major leaguers starting now.
Polanco is good. This could have been better but this is by no means bad.
This is a great move by re-signing him. He is going to play a lot better this year now that he is healthy.
I’m actually pretty stoked about this
Same. He’s a legit baseball player. Maybe not an all star but apparently dealing with a patellar issue all year? Probably make it hard for anyone to play baseball. Plus he can’t do much worse than last year lol
This is stupid even by M’s standards
I like this move he was doing good towards the end of the year.
Also, domes suck
sounds like we need a new park.
And yet they don’t give a rip. Really makes you wonder why we continue to support this organization in any way. They clearly don’t deserve it.
This is why teams dont want to trade major pieces for Castillo and maybe the lesser two starters from Seattle. The best offer you got was from Boston. Most teams think of Castillo as a salary dump, not a top line pitcher and have treated him as such. His home/road splits are crazy. Outside of a couple of oddities he only pitched well against the lesser teams and really only the Angels, Rockies and Twins and Oakland though the new place they play might change that. You will only get a decent player(Ryan McMahon type) and a lesser prospect at best. And after this year the returns will only lessen. Maybe at the deadline you can fleece a good player from a desperate team but the Mariners will have to eat some of that contract. And probably be selling off because of a non competitive year anyway.
Yes
Now watch him go back to Houston after all of this lmao
sigh
Any hindrance this park poses on the Mariners offense is also posed on the opposition's offense. They are playing on the same field. Changing the park does not make the team better.
No mention of the greatest hitter in MLB history. Ichiro! No problem hitting at T-Mobile.
What is the shortest distance fence in a MLB park? Make our fence that length and see what happens.
Why dont they just bring in the fences? Seems like a cheaper option.
The mariners will probably produce an elite group of position players… who will come of age right when their elite group of pitchers walks in free agency. The cycle never ends.
I think they will still be good this year. They will use guys from there farm to fill the holes and those guys will be better then those that they could have signed or traded for. Look at past seasons. They struck out. So now using their prospects make sense for this season.
Hey guys I love the podcast. Just wanted to share that my 73 year old grandpa just passed away due to surgery complications. He was a Mariners fan through all of the ups and mostly downs. I just wish the ownership cared enough to actually try to get these people a World Series. But now some of them are dead.
Sorry to hear that :/
Shorten the distance for the outfield again. Producing more seats 😅 So ownership will be happy.
Here’s an idea. Sign actually good and proven offensive players
We won't complain about that
Gotta love being a mariners fan. At least I live in Arizona so I get to see them in spring training where there is hope and sunshine
God sacrifed his son to save the same people who sinned against him he loves and supports us unconditally
Or he just didn’t wanna come here at all
Keep cooking Lyle 💯
Have we considered this? Maybe the Mariners pitching staff just really isn't that good - it's literally just the ballpark. And therefore, the Mariners really aren't that good at developing pitchers, because any average/above average pitcher is excellent at T-Mobile. Besides Bryan Woo, maybe it's all just an illusion. And let's go a little deeper and more depressing. Maybe the Mariners actually completely knew and embraced this all along (secretly, of course), and this narrative of "we develop pitchers better than anyone" is just a bogus spin to make the franchise seem more legit.
SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN!!! 😅
Jerry is nothing more than a ball washer for Stanton.
I’m 100% convinced Stanton and the rest of the ownership is doing this out of spite for all the negative press and outspoken fans/media. Petty douchebag billionaires
I want them to win! Does the front house?
The Seattle stadium is going to artificially look worse for hitters this year due to all Visitors facing our all-star rotation and closer, and us being really bad hitters.
THEY ARE NOT DOING CRAP UNTIL AFTER THE LOCKOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s saddening to see such a quality core go to waste because the owners are unwilling to invest to grow the franchise. The team is little more than a bank account for Stanton to keep making money for himself. There is no path to success if a profit is the only goal.
You don’t understand John Stanton’s smart baseball strategy 😂👌
This budget is ridiculous. About two months ago the Mariners sold the Modesto nuts to DBH for a couple million bucks. The Mariners didn't pay 32 million dollars for upgrades, and won’t use that money to add on their payroll. Hopefully, we see the “Sell the team” chants this season
“A poor craftsman blames his tools”
Despite all the BS, you picked a beautiful day to take a walk. I hope the M’s surprise us this season, despite not doing Jack during the off-season.
Would love to see the Ms get Torkelson. He’s cheap, he’s got power so much that he may be able to overcome T-Mobile, and DET doesn’t have space for him (even without Bregman). Why isn’t he talked about more?
