The other part of trading pitching we’ve never done is why not try to get a pitcher on a ‘pillow contract’? We would more than likely have to overpay hitters, or we could trade for cost-controlled bats. Why not sign pitchers who want to come here for the awesome pitching environment?
Tristan Casas is good but his injury risk is too much in order to trade both Castillo AND our #1 pitching prospect. Considering there are other options I think I would pass.
@@MarineLayerPod3B is a bigger priority not 1B. I’d rather get a solid 3B in a trade package of prospects and then sign a 1B like Turner or Castillo. But yet again if they land Alonso or Walker (by some divine miracle) then I would be ok with a 1 year bridge until guys like Colt Emerson are ready to make his debut at some point in 2026
I love the take but the pool at third base for this year’s market is very shallow. Better off trying to fill first base via trade or free agency. The injury concerns are real with Casas considering he’s only in his mid 20’s. Probably why Jerry has pause in pulling the trigger on that deal.
@ I’d keep Castillo personally. Sign Santana or Turner and trade for a 3B. Gotta trade some prospects to solidify the lineup. It’s ridiculous that they would trade Castillo. He’s a bargain at this point considering what other starters are getting. But I sense Jerry isn’t allowed to trade any top 10 prospects since ownership is so cheap they are banking on all of those guys being cheap over the next 4-5 years once the top prospects are up lol. 2024 World UnSeries Champions our Seattle Mariners
Possible. But not sure how worth it he is. A singles hitting first baseman who plays awful defense (which is why he doesn’t play much second base anymore) plus he doesn’t walk at all
geez.....I wonder if our F.O. is smart enough to realize that any chance Roki has to sign here.....is if he feels the team wants to win. He isn't coming over here to play on a team that misses the playoffs most years. So if they want to make their offer attractive.....better add that 1B, 2B and 3B so he can see the team is committed to winning a championship.
If the Cubs trade for Tucker I would assume they would be sending prospects to Houston. Which may end up opening a window for the M’s to send prospects to the Cubs for Hoerner as opposed to MLB talent. This would help the Cubs replenish their minor league system.
The m’s MIGHT sign one of the 4 young pitchers. two would be a long shot, and zero chance we sign 3 or all 4. Might as well trade the one who will net u the most return while u can
Would something like Castillo for Yoshida, Story and Giolito + plus a decent prospect have any interest if the Sox take on Castillo's full contract and have the Mariner's pay $8 mil each for the 3 major leaguers with the Sox paying the other $34 mil
Value could change a lot based on the prospect or prospects but just wondering if that deal would have any appeal as it sounds like you guys are looking for MLB level bats
Likely not. I hate saying that because it is a tempting offer. Our management hates big long-term contracts (see last year's Robbie Ray trade). Even paying the bulk of Yoshida & Story's contracts this year wouldn't keep them from balking at the rest. Keep in mind that this channel did the calculations based on publicized figures and know that our team could easily afford a $190M payroll while staying in the black but refuses to go much further than $160M. That's who you're trying to strike a deal with.
@@T_K7 Oh so you guys are trying to shed some salary here then rather than retool, makes sense if you want to go for a FA bat or arm. Casas makes perfect sense here but I think you guys would be getting a steal and I'm not sure this deal would make the Sox better without even accounting for the salary difference
Story is a bust at this point but Yoshida would be interesting. Mariners want DH, 1B, 2B, 3B for Castillo and they want to lower payroll with any trade. It would have to be something like this = Castillo + top 50 prospect for Casas, Yoshida and mlb ready relief prospect or something close to that type of trade. Red Sox get another top rotation starter and Mariners fill DH/1B and get two left handed bats to put in their heavy right handed lineup. Casas has injury concerns and Castillo has been a bulldog as a starter for years now. Red Sox fans have got to get with the times that top of the rotation pitchers via trades cost a good haul in return. Castillo also is slightly underpaid based on the contracts that are now being handed out to SP. Of course Castillo could say no and this is all mute.
Our roster is a hallow shell. Our best hitter was Julio who hit 273 last year. The next closest hitter was Raley, who was a platoon player at .243 and it just gets worse from there. Our outfield is extremely thin and we don’t have a 1st, 2nd, or a 3rd basemen. This is an absolute joke of a roster. As it stands we have 2 players that other teams would consider above average players-Julio and Raleigh.
Haha you really are an idiot. 2 above average players huh? Last I checked the following are all above average to elite: Castillo, Gilby, Kirby, Woo, Miller, Munoz, Brash, JP, Randy, Robles, Raley. 1B, 2B, & 3B need to be addressed, but take out those 3 positions the Ms have probably the best roster in the AL.
@willmarshall4685 #4 outfielder is Raley, who did well in 2024. He might go to 1st base permanently, though. #5 outfielder is Canzone, who is a 2nd year player that did well in 2024 until he got injured. The platooning crap kills a players flow. Plus, there is still Haniger. M's seem to have Robles-Rodriguez-Arozarena as their outfield. I wouldn'thold my breath here. Before June, these guys won't hit a fly, come September, you will be hardly able to state if they had played. We should have taken a proven commodity like O'Neill - PNW guy - but he went to Baltimore. Who is available? Verdugo?
Coming up with a line up on the cheap is such BS but that's what it is If we plug in Moore at third full time that would help with the money for other spots. Those sons of Mitches were really bad for this team last year and are taking up 30 mill. this year. That's crap. Four new players were busts last year.
