Not getting any younger! I originally put a small number of videos on you tube simply to make it easier to share with family members only. Then I added a few to share with the Train Simulator community while building my own route. Since I tried some wild camping starting June 2021, and having watched a squillion camping videos, I thought "why not have a go at making a couple of camping videos myself?" - so here I am!
Quick bit about me: Aged 68 with a number of disabilities (mainly arthritis and chronic heart failure) - Ex BR Train driver - Ex a few other jobs - Ex bus & Coach driver - Latest was a Driving Instructor - now retired. I like all things Trains, Planes, Automobiles, Ships (Water borne and Space borne). Science and Astronomy. The list goes on......

Great to see a first flight, and that the sky stayed clear for you!
Yes, thanks. Wondering if I will ever do it again some day!
That must have been a long, tiring day. Great video Glen. Keep em coming.
At my age and health, yes it was. But it was definitely worth it!
parachute jump?
Have always thought about it, but at the moment I reckon the 'jolt' upon 'chute deploy will see my dodgy hip (and knee) become detached and I'll likely watch my right leg hit the groung long before I do!
Helicopters?
I looked into this a few years ago as a possible gift for one of my grandchildren. It struck me as being way too expensive, especially upon reading the little bit at the end that indicated one only gets approx' 4 minutes in the air!
Really enjoyed this and glad you had a great first flight!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congratulations sir!
Many many thanks
Great video sir
Thanks
well done sir you can now tick that off your bucket list, next trip the moon 😊
Time to send Elon a nice e-mail!!
Always nice to see you still doing what you love. We swear by Vango tents and have a mirage ourselves. Carry on camping Glen!
Always good an calming, thank you.
I admire you for attempting to put your creation up in that wind but to be honest I think you have made the job worse. worth a try though so well done for that
Excelente!
Fantastic idea👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Yes please more real life camping videos ☺️ I'd be scared in the pitch dark!!!!!!
love the vid.. Havent seen you for a bit ... glad you are o.k. ....you seemed to by having a good time...even in the wind .. all power to you mate .. hope you make more vids soon ... love you derek. 😁😁
il like vidio. family adventure.. I hope you are always healthy for all the family👍👍
🥳🥳i like i like💪🥸☕
hi glenn.. love the vid. nice to see you having a good time with the family again.. they are so lovely. and so helpfull too. good ol monkey looking on from his perch on the roof. glad the zip was o.k. now you fixed it. all the best to you all.. some of this modern gear is not as good as the "old school" stuff.... i would take the sleeping bag back and get me money back!!!!
I love it! Proper family adventure and the heels from old shoes are great 🐱
Many thanks for your comment. Memories to remember.
This video is full of unfortunates! I have to appologise for the eratic voice-over. It's done on the PC using a not cheap microphone. But the mic' is way to sensitive. I have to keep my mouth facing the mic' directly and approx' 3 inches away. If I move or turn away even slightly - 10mm - then the volume drops off dramatically. There is seemingly no way to make any adjustments and I hate it. I have just bought a new camera and next on the list is a new / different mic'. If anyone has any helpful suggestions please! - just bear in mind that I am living on state pension plus a bit of disability allowance, so no £500 mic's allowed! And thanks to David for your nice and early comment. I doubt the video was published for more than an hour or so! All comments are very encouraging so please keep them coming peoples.
thanks for answering my name is derek not david. i have been called worse things in the past so i forgive you. did you do a vid fixing the tent?. i would love to see it. sorry but the only mike i know is me brother in law ( ha.ha ). all the best to you... from DEREK..!!
@@derektuttle7406 AGHH! Sorry mate, dunno what I was thinking. Unfortunately I don't think I did do a zip fixing video - if I did, I have forgotton about it. I will have a look through some of the junk on my PC - if I find it I will pass it on. Just done another camp (7th & 8th Sept) and boy did it rain! Also some unflattering remarks bout a brand new sleeping bag (Naturehike CWM 400). Editing will begin shortly.
nice to see you camping again. lovely to see you and the family having a good laugh and such a good time together. i think monkey was having a giggle at the sinking chair . keep the vids coming they are lovely to watch. i like the way they show the good and bad .things that go well and the things that go awry. but you keep going well done to you. i hope the tent is o.k. love ol monkey on the gutter...
Thats so nice glen still trying at your age well done
Hi you made me smile 🙂 at last a down to earth wild camping video keep on camping and posting your videos
I chose a trekking tent for a very long time, and settled on this model. True, my tent is not much thinner and lighter. As for its assembly, this is a matter of technology. Long only the first assembly. My assembly takes 3-4 minutes
I think your a bit of a jinx. Lol. Having no luck at the minute but very entertaining. 👌
I did have a good one last week tho'. Here's the link if you haven't already found it th-cam.com/video/uigvXD56rnY/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the comment, happy days!
If you had tipped your lamp at home you would know they cant be transported full. It pisses out of wick. Every day is a school day. Just found your channel. Loving it. Subbed.
Cheers for the comment. I last had a 'Hurricane' lamp back in the 70's (they were even placed on the ends of station platforms during all the power cuts - back in the days when I was a train driver). In those days they were built in Great Britain and of a different quality to the cheap chinese imports we get today. That particulary one was a gift from my daughter after hearing me talk about using them way back when. The leak was in part a silly oversight by myself, but also in part because the wick holder was a poor & loose fit. The glass is also wafer thin, as is the metal used. It now stands on window sill as an ornament. My daughter has since replaced it and the new one certainly seems to be better built and the glass is not wafer thin! Hope you have found the later videos. Happy days!
Great idea sir. I'm looking to get my cloud peak 2 soon and have been looking for mods. This will help tremendously.
Oi, you're the bloke buggering about making all them bloddy crop circles... 👽 🖖May the force be with you...
It took me a second or 2 to realise what you was refering to - then I had a darn good laugh. Brilliant observation, proper made my day that did. And sending you a bit of the force as well!
Hi Glenn, I am a 65 year old Aussie, my list of health issues matches yours and I can add type 2 Diabetes. I too get the shakes caused by nerve damage in my lower back a result of partial fusion of my lumbar vertebra. Soon as I start to shake I know I must sit for a few minutes to relieve the pressure and pain. I have a Cloud Peak 2, and the same gas stove, hint1: I carry a throw away aluminum baking dish, crunched up in my pack to sit my gas burner in. If you get a larger one it can be bent to act as a wind break for the burner also. I live in the sub tropics plenty of rain so I pitch my tent under a ultra light tarp (5.7m x 3.6m) that way I am not compelled to say in the tent when rain persists. Can I suggest you add extensions to both entry points to you cloud peak 2 hood, hot glue and sew the extensions, add aluminum eyelets for tie cords to the front corners long enough so they can be either tied to your tent poles or tied to sticks like a pergola. Place wider hems on the front and back of the extensions leave the stitching open at one end so 3-4mm solid plastic tube can be added for rigidity. I can not sit on the ground like you do, I last about 30 seconds before by lower back explodes in pain and I shake so hard I can not hold anything; so I carry Nemo Moonlite recliner ultralight chair, I hacked it to double the height of the legs to approx 500mm, to make it easier to get in and out of. The adjustable straps on the chair allow the back of the chair to be straightened or laid back depending on what I am doing. I use the straps to help get in and out of the chair to. I carry it in a dry stuff sack. I could not get in or out of your chair. Check out the 'Flextailgear Max Plus pro' they are brilliant, light powerful have an in built lights, hanging hook, and can be used to recharge phones camera batteries, etc check them out. I use a 210cm x 70cm x100mm inflatable mattress, the flextail inflates it in a minute or so, will do that more the 12 times before needing recharging. You can tell how old a male is by how much noise they make when they sit and stand. LOL By the way England is one of the most multi cultural countries on the planet, the 2000 year history of London reinforces that statement. Without that multi culturalism England would not have become head of the Commonwealth, maybe it's time you carried a history book or two when camping. lol. You forget England would have been completely destroyed during WW2 if it hadn't been for the Commonwealth forces, 30 thousand Aussie RAAF personal alone, Polish pilots in the battle of Britain, service men and woman from all over Europe and the USA. Never let your age make you cynical or racist, I was so disappointed I decided not to subscribe to your channel. Remember 'the Law of One'. One race, Human, One family Man. If the world imagines peace it must rise from these virtues, Appreciation, Understanding, Humility, Compassion, Forgiveness, and Valor.
Hello down under! I really like the idea of extensions to the rain hood - I hadn't thought of that one. Sorry you were sisappointed with some of my remarks. I can promise you that I am most definitely NOT racist (thought I said that in my rant) - I have had many friends of various nationalities throughout the years. As I said though, I am ANTI ILLEGAL economc migrants. I used to live in a town where, when walking to the shops, I was made to feel like a tourist in a foreign country, and yes that did make me feel uncomfortable. Would be better if immigrants (legal or otherwise) at least took the trouble to learn the basic language of the country they wish to reside in! Anyways, enough of that. I wish you many happy days under the tent / tarp. Stay safe.
ALL lives matter if anyone feels the need to put ANY colour in front of that statement is the racist one! Peace and love to EVERY human being be them black white pink brown be them gay lesbian straight or transgender be them English French German or anything else each and every one of us is a human we all bleed RED!
Can't argue with that one!
I think me and the girls should start coming and helping you set up then we can star in your videos too! Lol
I'll let you know when then! LOL
Bless you and thanks for the tips Sir.
Glue might have been easier than mole grips? 😊
I'm glad that I didnt use glue (hadn't thought about it here tho) as I tried to use glue in a later video when (trying to) attaching velcro. The glue made it impossible to pass a sewing needle thro' as the needle would get coated in glue and get stuck halfway thro. I think it MIGHT have been possible with certain 'soft' glues after allowing several hours for it to dry. If I ever do something similar, I will try and remember this and try a bit to see what happens. Good thinking on your part tho.
𝔭𝔯𝔬𝔪𝔬𝔰𝔪 💕
Nice one!
Thank you for the tips and tricks! I am waiting for this tent to arrive. Bought Naturehike Spider first a couple of weeks ago (I'm a short person) but it's a bit small so you can't spend time in there or take bags inside. I watched literally all videos on Cloud Peak 2, I think, and went through _all_ naturehike models and read customers' feedback. That took some time but I like to rule out until I find the perfect one for me. I wish you many happy campings!
Thanks for the comment. Hope you soon get your cloud peak 2. I have 2 tents. First was a 'Bessport 2P' - used it 2 or 3 times but was then bitten with the bug. Like you I must have watched as many Naturehike reviews as I could find. Settled on the cloud peak2 and really glad I did. It ticks all of MY boxes, plenty of room, seems to be jolly sturdy in wind, and I have used it 3 times in heavy rain and not a single sign of a leak. It appears to be pretty good at controlling condensation as well - so far. Just a damn shame about the zip though, but I guess these things happen. And many happy camps back at yer.
This brings back bad memories! To fix mine I took the stitching off the bottom of the zip and put them on that way. Took about an hour to get the zips back on! The guttering is a cool idea, I'd like to see it all set up. I tried to cut an old tarp to the same shape as the original roof cover but with an extra few inches over the doors for more rain cover, but it was too loose. The noise in the wind was horrific!
As soon as I get my new camera (don't want to rely on the mobile phone) I'll be planning my next excursion out into the wilds (about a 5 minute drive and 7 minute walk from home!). I really need to start thinking about a new site, but sadly I'm scared to death because of my health - I know from experience that a 30 minute walk with equipment would have me on the floor gasping and groaning! Think I'm lucky to have found a site so close to home - and it's just yards from a "NO CAMPING" sign! Had no problems so far tho'.
Hi Glenn, shame about that oil lamp but at least you got the rain you wanted. A beautiful sound on the roof of the tent. Did it rain through the night? Both of my zips broke the same way as yours. Seems the older model of the tent had YKK zips, but this 2021 version uses cheap ones. The only fix I found was if you look inside the zip track on the inside, where the seam of the zip runner has been sealed, the seal bit is like a transparent rubber/plastic texture. This seam seel appears to come away a millimetre or two through using the zip, and it starts getting caught in the zipper when opening and closing. I trimmed about a millimetre off the edge of this seam seal, and zips are working again (for now!) They are temperamental zips, very disappointing.
Hello and thanks for commenting. Sadly, apart from a few very light showers, the rain did not last long. At least I got some!. I'm not entirely sure how my zip got jammed, I suppose I wasn't actually watching what I was doing, and maybe a gust of wind didn't help, but somehow it was the storm flap that got trapped in the zip. The more I try thinking about it, the more baffled I get! Think I will deffinitely take a look at that seam sealing tape later tho'.
What a beautiful sunrise you managed to capture.
paracord will wick up water in rain and take ages to dry out properly
It does indeed. But I gave mine a good soaking in Fabsil Gold to keep the rain at bay.
Was it worth all the hard work?
I hope so - not actually done a proper camp yet. Cant really say it was hard work tho' Being retired and living alone it gives me something to do and something to look forward to. Been out walking today, checking out my old camp site (see video "I am not happy") and looking for alternatives. Thanks for the comment.
just subbed
Cheers and happy days to you.
Hey Glenn, don't worry about waffling. That's what you're supposed to do in videos like this! And it's interesting that you neither saw nor heard anything while you were gone, then saw a non-existent clock when you came back. From what you say here, it seems like you were perfectly lucid at that point too. The more near death experiences I hear about, the more reassured I am that death is not as fearful and terrible as most of us expect it to be. Thanks for sharing your story.
Good on you for not letting health issues keep you out of the game! I have an arthritic hip which was giving me a lot of pain on my hiking trips and at work. I started taking a Turmeric based natural remedy over a year ago and it really does make a difference. If you want me to drop in a link to the stuff I've been using, let me know. All the best Glenn!
I will be happy to give that link a try - I'll try anything once! Many thanks for your comment and the offer. Safe travels.
Nice vid...found your channel through watchin jen outdoors ...roll on spring summer
Awesome! Thank you!
What a night for your first time back out there, I'm yet to camp out in the rain! Worth it for that sunrise though 🙌
There's something 'magical?' about being all snug and cosy inside a tent when it's raining. That sound can be quite relaxing! Loved it. And yep, that was some sunrise.
i believe that this is the "upgrade" version .... thought, when i asked nature-hike about it, although courteous, i got no definitive answers from them. (!?) I too, was looking forward to the "T" style, not the "n" style ... but hey ho.
Hi Glenn, seems a good idea, I look forward to seeing the tent pitched and this mod in situ. Also very odd how they've put that one eye and guy rope bit upside down... I'll have to check my Cloud Peak 2 now and see if I have the same problem! Not long now and Spring will be rolling around.
Quality tent there, I got myself one off Amazon a few weeks ago, also for £187. Have had one night in it and no complaints from me. In wet weather, the 2021 door seemed to stop the water from coming in so much!
Nice one Glenn! First camp in over 40 years and it poured down all night, typical British weather! I found your channel through one of your Cloud Peak 2 vids, and I'll be sticking around to watch more of your content. Keep the vids coming! Cheers, Will
Actually, I deliberately chose a wet spell! There is just something about being all comfy and cosy in a tent with the sounds of rain on the top! It all dates back to when I was around 13 years old. Most kids will make some kind of tent - couple of chairs back to back and a sheet over the top. I went one better. Used my paper round money to buy materials, carefully cut out shapes and used Nan's old sewing machine to stitch them together in the shape of a tent - pitched in the garden with a sheet of polythene over the top! Got hooked on it way back then.
