Scientists found a Neanderthal with Down Syndrome
For the first time, scientists have found a Neanderthal fossil that appears to have come from an individual with Down Syndrome. This find may provide us with important information about how Neanderthals cared for each other! This is a summary of a recent scientific paper "The child who lived: Down syndrome among Neanderthals?".

This is an excellent video and quite current in regards to the ongoing investigations of the Tully monster’s taxonomic affinities. However, your otherwise scientifically accurate video (nice discussion of concretions, BTW) struck a jarring note when you said that these creatures lived “thousands” of years ago. Tully monster fossils are found in strata from the upper Carboniferous period (formerly known as the Pennsylvanian), which were deposited between 323 and 299 million years ago. All economic coal seams in the Upper Carboniferous in the Illinois Basin were deposited during this period, which was marked by rising and falling, relatively shallow seaways. Sediment input came from the erosion of one of the Appalachian mountain building episodes to the east. As sea levels rose and fell (probably driven by Gondwana glacier formation and melting, which drove eustatic change by segregating seawater into continental glaciers and then releasing it during cyclical freeze/thaw events), shorelines shifted landward and seaward. Rising sea levels flooded low-lying shore environments, creating swamps and bogs. Coal was formed in oxygen minimum zones when organic materials didn’t completely decompose. As sea levels continued to rise, the coal swamps retreated landward, and the previous shorelines transitioned to more purely marine environments, with various marine fauna. Areas of fresh-water input (river mouths) created deltas that prograded and retreated with sea level changes and often a more fresh-water fossil assemblage is found near those areas. All of this time, the basin itself was subsiding, transporting organic materials into higher realms of temperature and pressure, resulting in the coal seams and sometimes even oil and gas. Erosion (and slight structural uplift) has since brought these sediments to the near surface around the periphery of the Illinois Basin.

They referenced humans for the plate joining, but it was a Neanderthal. It is just as likely that Neanderthal fusing age is different to humans. If they checked the fusing of all great apes and they are about the same age that would be fair, but by just checking humans doesn't seem that solid to me. I could be wrong however.

Interesting as always. We should remember though that , even though we have good evidence that some individuals wirh healrh issues were being cated for, we also have evidence of interpersonal violence and even cannibalsm from other sites. So.... Neanderthals were probably just as mixed a bunch as we are. On a personal note I think the "old man" from Dmanisi is the best and most interesting example...... possibly because Im an old man with no teeth😃. Seriously, I do quite a bit of foraging and in normal circumstances could probably survive all right on what I collect , but I would certainly have starved if forced to do so just after losing my teeth. And thats with modern equipment available. Im sure the Old man had help.

I see it more like other human species show other ways of being human. They are a different species precisely because of the differences, not the similarities. They were not just like us.. they were stronger and more robust, had better senses. And although they had larger brains, they were wired differently, with much more brain space dedicated to the occipital lobe and less to the prefrontal cortex.. hence better vision, better low light vision, but not the same level of cognition as us. Smart yes... but not inventive in the same ways as us.

You had it all good right until you got to the end. We know that feathers in dinosaurs are an evolutionary trait. Genetics has demonstrated this. In a Chicken embryo, before they hatch, they have teeth and a long boney tail that is only known in theropod dinosaurs. Those traits are lost as the chicken develops. Ostrichs still have one claw on their wings which is a left over of when birds long armed clawed hands. All of these are evolutionary features that link birds and dinosaurs together. I think you really need to stop defending the Young Earth Creation model. This whole video is you guys just contracting yourselves. Just be a science accepting Christian. I feel like if you just took the Young Earth Creation nonsense out of your, this would be great. You know that the Young Earth Creation stuff contradicts your acceptance of sciences. There's a conflation here between the word or common name and the scientific classification. Ultimately a common name for a species or a group of organisms may not have any sort of evolutionary implications, as you mentioned it may be non-monophyletic, but it can also be entirely nonsensical.
