“HOBO” My father found it important enough to explain to me the difference between a hobo and a bum when I was about 10 years old. You see, when I was growing up, we went to Nashville, Tennessee a lot, where my dad would often be playing music and we would encounter bums and hobos and everything on the streets at night in downtown Nashville. There was always this one homeless fellow that my dad would tip 20 or $30 too, and in return, the guy would make me a balloon animal of my choice. On one of those occasions, as we were walking away from the Man, my dad told me to remember, that there’s a big difference between a hobo and a mom. He said that a bum will beg for money, but like the man who made me the balloon animal which I was holding, a hobo will at least work for their money, by providing something of value.

New here apparently a local! Thanks for the history tour. I've always felt Antioch is divided by the freeway for some reason (north vs south being less sketchy areas) but good to learn the history of the city that I'm unaware of. I perhaps I should get one of these electric bikes! They look fun!

Beautiful! That company did their thing with that battery! I dont think super 73 does that. You have to get a custom battery from like powerful lithium. Which is not bad at all but why not stick to the same company. Thats just me.

I grew up in Pittsburg in the 60's, moved to Antioch early 70's , then moved to Pontiac MI, then back to Antioch 1980, then Spokane, WA in 82 , then back to Antioch 1984.... 40 years later... still here. Damn, I'm old ain't I ? Don't know why I clicked on your channel but... makes some money if ya can young man! 👍 and subbed

I'm from Pittsburg slick. Back in the day both Pittsburg and Antioch were small towns. Historically fishing, Steel Mill and early century Coal Mining. In the late 80's Contra Costa County and Alameda County started moving the section 8 (welfare) persons from Richmond and Oakland out to East Co Co County. It was on and poppin' after that . The county east mall closed because of the incidents and thefts and robberies. Its a ghost town now. Anyway, many of the Antioch people that were there in the beginning have moved east out to Brentwood and Oakley. There are still some nice places in Antioch off Hillcrest, Lone Tree Way and Deer Valley. So a lot of Antioch not shown is really nice as is Pittsburg. Both got a bad rap.

I remember learning about the kidnapping in high school in a criminal justice class still gets me sick knowing that happened to someone so close to home

Ground Zero off those railroad tracks my good friend was murdered. He was 15. A 15-year-old youth, who police say killed a friend so he could take the victim’s telephone pager, has been sentenced to spend a decade in the California Youth Authority. Juvenile Court Judge John Minney, in handing down the sentence Friday, said the authority is the only appropriate place for Manuel Walker, who the judge said has a history of violence. “The minor engaged in a brutal, cowardly killing involving an apparently defenseless victim,” Minney said. “It appears he has no sense of accountability or responsibility for what he’s done.” Walker, who turns 16 next month, was convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Ricky Martinelli last March. Authorities said Walker can be held until age 25.

One year late to the party, here. Thanks for making this video! I’m one of the old timers that volunteers at the Dow Wetlands. I’m the guy that drew up and made the benches. I have 8 of the type you don’t rave too much about. My initials and date of each beach is on the right(when viewed from back) leg. I have placed 18 benches out there. Uh, none of them are those ugly RR tie ones. The wooden things are called Things 1-15. I’m not a fan of those, but our team leader likes to make them. The year you made that video Mother Nature got a lead on us and everything grew fast. Plus we stayed to focused on another section of the wetlands. We are a bit more on top of it now. I personally have widened the path to the fishing point. I’ll widen it a bit more this fall. I’m also going to contact you at your email address. We are aging out and sure could use some younger blood to help us out. We meet on Friday mornings at the beaver ( not on tinder) pond area. Once, again, thnx for the video.
