Neat video! I purchased a Step Star but it was not delivered as ordered. Many emails and phone calls with no resolution. At least with your video I might gain some additional satisfaction from the bike...
Brother, you are a real trooper for showing us how to do this, especially in your current workshop. This was especially appreciated because I have to switch out my shifter, which I totally destroyed in a crash episode 31 days ago. My leg is still messed up. I haven't ridden since then, but I do need to swap out my shifter, so thanks for that.
TY Chit for making yourself show this process. Definitely will be helpful to many. At 1st I thought it was just going to be a repeat of your previous video. TY Chit for making yourself show this process. Definitely will be helpful to many. At 1st I thought it was just going to be a repeat of your previous video. :)
Thank you for doing this. Even if we want a better set-up than what you replaced the original with, I think we're out of luck. I'll upgrade after I get back from my little mini vacation. I can't wait to get rid of some of that horrifying chain slap. When I first got my Dual Star, I'd pull over after I heard the chain slap to make sure nothing was broken. Again, thanks for the video!
Great mod and improvement. The 6/7/8 speed chains are all the same. Indexing is set by the shifter. So you can put an “8 speed” derailleur on the bike and it will operate the same as stock with the 7 speed shifter to save you from having to replace the shifter and freewheel if you wanted to 👍 Great video though, I need to swap my stock derailleur with one that has a clutch on my 24+ Wired Freedom. I already put a mega range 7 speed freewheel on it just incase I need to pedal it home without power for some reason.
@@shootthechit yup, probably. a Shimano should be a direct replacement. I like your 8 speed upgrade though, as I always seem to be between 5-6-7. Do you notice a difference?
Nice upgrade for a little money. The only thing I do not like about the shifter it only shows gear 1 and gear 8 on the shifter. I think you have to guess about the other gears. How does it ride and shift?
I've got this setup installed, and the upshift lever does NOT clear the throttle housing. There's no way to position the shifter to avoid it. The shift lever needs to be modified (cut)
Great details for the average home wrencher! If you could overcome all those challenges, certainly I could learn how to do my own bike repairs as well. Say, I've always wondered what it would take to swap out a motor on a Senada Viper Plus. Maybe someday we'll see that. Couldn't be too difficult, right?
I tried this, and the shifter would not work because the throttle shifter was in the way, I tried adjusted it like you did but it still did not work. The shifter levers are too far apart. I will try ordering up and down levers closer together. Before I change out the rear sprocket and derailer again
@rolandgadue4351 Same brand shifter? I've been able to make it work on the dual star and the five star although it is a tight fit. Rotating the throttle so the bulky part is on the top gives some extra room
@@shootthechit yes it is the same brand shifter, I ordered everything from the link on your TH-cam video channel. I think the diameter housing of the throttle on mine is bigger than yours. Because no matter what position I rotate it like in your video, the up shifter will no work because not enough room. The down shift works fine, I thought about heating up the shifting lever and try bending it a little but I am afraid it will weaken the plastic.
Update, I heated up the lever just enough to bend it just a little, and now it gives me enough clearance to shift, I even got it shifting properly. I had everything down but for some reason, there was not enough clearance to use the little shifter, until I bent it just a little using heat.
You need to move brother! Your upstairs too right? Pretty sure you lost your security deposit. Maybe find a storage unit nearby to make into a storage/shop combo. Good video, I'm going to send you a 21 inch wrench!
@RidinRetired I actually took a link out of this chain already, but not by plan. I noticed a few months ago that one of the outer links came loose so I took it off

@@Truth_Spoken Interesting, so put the 8sp derailleur on and set the limit screws and it would only shift 7 of the gears?
@@shootthechit that’s correct. Still need to match brands though, so if you have a Shimano shifter then use their derailleur.
@Truth_Spoken I read that the microshift shifter uses a different ratio pull than the shimano.

How much money is in the tupperware?
@IMBruceECLECTIC Hah a lot, I edited out the whole putting money in it gag. It's on the cutting room floor

damn how you get the freewheel off so easy, im trying to remove my freewheel right now and i bought the park tool FR nut thing and it won't come off!
@funguy2627 well, it wasn't as easy as the video shows, I had to really Crank it. Much harder than the other Freewheel I've removed
Hey buddy, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can remove the rear wheel without breaking the chain, no?
Don't need to break the chain to take the tire off, but you need to when you replace the derailleur
With this upgrade is the chain still loose enough to need to take a link out?
@RidinRetired I actually took a link out of this chain already, but not by plan. I noticed a few months ago that one of the outer links came loose so I took it off
@ My chain seems to be too long, I’ll probably take a link out when I break it to do the upgrade.

This works on the freedom as well right? Great vid bro.
@@sonofevil77 Yea, although I haven't done it on a Freedom personally, it has the same drive train so.I don't see why not

@@sonofevil77 Which fork are you looking at? Doesn't seem like there are a ton of options.
@shootthechit and there's a gold one from another brand as well
Why did you bother to break the chain? Just separate the derailleur from the hanger and lay the chain down out of the way.
Dude, when you Put that freewheel on make sure to put a little bit of grease on those threads. You’ll thank me later.
