I was pretty good in high school band, I went to all the competitions on sax and/or clarinet; regionals, districts states, etc . And then my band teacher said a group of us were going to be the pit orchestra for the upcoming high school drama/stage play. And then we got the sheet music. Oh wow, we weren't ready for it at all. NONE of us, accomplished musicians all, could even begin to play the absolute craziness we saw coming from the notes. Nope, wasn't happening and we tried at it for weeks and it was C R A Z Y I've never seen or tried to play anything as complicated and so far over my head again. I mean it surprised all of us that we couldn't put it together in the least. It wasn't unlike this demonstation.

This part on 0:34, the Allegretto Stretto part is just unimaginable just look at her lightning fast jumps over two OCTAVES??!!!😱😱😱 That technique is almost impossible to play flawlessly by like 90% of pianists in the world. Octave jumps are definitely mind blowing though but an octave jump over two octaves is just not human, did some new unknown composer reinvent the piano?!

The part at 1:00 is the same of another SHOSTAKOVICH piece, a piano trio (I don't remember the number or name)

I do not bash Yuja needlessly. She is a fine pianist. I also have goosebumps. However, I refer you to the FIRST recorder of Prokofieff Two--Jorge Bolet. The man played this concerto in colossal fashion. (The marking "colosalle" appears in the cadenza). Mr. Bolet gives the phrases of the cadenza much better shape than Yuja does, and his music therefore has overall more "relief" than hers. I believe Bolet's embracing this concerto paved the way for such recordings as this one. I heard Bolet play this with Stokowski in Carnegie Hall around 1971.

Most pros don’t even attempt to play this piece. And I don’t know if it’s ever been recorded this cleanly. The amount of strength she has in her fingers is inhuman.
