Finca Life
Spain
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 มี.ค. 2021
We're Sharon and Andy. Back in May 2019 we bought an old Finca (Spanish farm), originally a Bodega, in need of total restoration in the Murcia region of Spain. The aim is to build a debt free, off grid home with our rescue animals. We are doing all the building and restoration work ourselves, using traditional building methods and showing exactly how we do it, so hopefully the videos will be inspirational or at least, entertaining! Learn from our mistakes and see how we did it! We are sharing our journey and daily life, focusing mainly on the house renovation.
We left our old life behind to follow a dream, we are currently living off our savings and have no income, so if you would like to support us and help us to keep on creating videos, you can do so at www.buymeacoffee.com/FincaLife or on Patreon www.patreon.com/Finca_Life

Glad to hear that you missed torrential downpours in your area of Spain !!
Andy please consider NOT climbing up ladders when you are alone. It's too easy to fall off.
Did you get any rain to save?
I am so sad for the Spanish people affected by so much loss, including lives. I send love from California.
We are up in Valencia, Andy. Thankfully our side of the city wasn’t very affected, but what has happened south of the city and in other parts of the province is horrendous. The scale is enormous. To make matters worse the Valencian President (Mazón) has been completely inept. We have been walking hours to the south to help clear mud and give out food, water and supplies. We have been channeling the Finca Life work ethic and just cracking on ❤️ Love to you both
We used to use chicken wire as support where lime mortar or plaster doesn’t stick well. Not sure if this would have worked here in your case! Great work! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My heart goes out to the people in Valencia, God, just devastating to see it on the news, just horrific. Pleased you’re all ok there, really puts things into perspective. On a more positive note, great progress Andy..I don’t envy the ceiling work. When we moved in here we had a big bulge in the kitchen ceiling from a leaking pipe. I had to cut a 3 foot square out and plasterboard it and skim it..that was five years ago and my shoulders are still aching 😔😐
I like the pipe idea for the light, as someone else mentioned, it has a bit of a steampunk vibe to it 👍…amazing that the leaky roof has cut channels into the plaster..would’ve started building stalagmites eventually lol 😂…great that the bigger channel seems to have solved it..but mad that someone built it with a roof sloping into the wall in the first place 😐😆
I know I’ve said it before but hats off to you both on your work ethic and dedication to your home..that looked a pig of a job but another massive job ticked off the list and another step closer..great stuff both of you 👏🏼
Careful Andy, don’t start the old penetrating fluid debate, everyone has got an opinion on it ha ha!..I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything so debated on bike forums etc 😂 my personal favourite though is Plusgas, but I’ve heard great things about ‘Freeway’ too..they use it in aviation I believe. As I say, everyone is allowed their favourite. I must get round to trying the atf mix though, I’ve not given that a go but have seen it used on TH-cam to free up seized pistons so there must be something to it 👍…floor is going great by the way, nice to see a bit of experimentation to find the best solution 👏🏼👍
Interesting video guys and it sounds an absolute minefield. Portugal seems nuts too. From what I’ve heard, properties in Portugal are often split equally between family when someone passes away. I heard of a couple who bought a property, finally got to moving date - and when they arrived, there was someone sat in their living room. Turned out they’d unknowingly bought the house and land with the exception of the sitting room!..that had belonged to a different family member, so they had no alternative obviously other than to buy him out. Crazy eh? 😯…can I ask one quick question please?..if you bought an already established home, with habitation certificate etc..just a bog standard house - can you work on that yourself?..I mean, could you fit a new kitchen/bathroom etc?…or would you need town hall permission and have a registered builder do the work?…really informative that, well done for giving people a heads up! 👏🏼
It's not so bad if you do it right, from the start. Hence the reason for this video and the other we did a while ago. In answer to your question, yes. Technically you should have a works licence from the local town hall - it's not difficult to get and costs very little - and there is usually no problem doing the work yourself. If it's work inside, nobody normally bothers with a licence. It's really only changes that are visible from the outside that draw attention, for obvious reasons. It's the same now in many countries.
@ ah ok, again, that helpful thank you..despite Brexit, I’m still not giving up hope!..one day, one day!..I’m still cracking on with the Duolingo lessons 😆👏🏼
Great work guys, the roof line looks so much better. Interesting to see the plan too, I’m wondering if it was council built 😂..all the angles and banana walls adds to the fun. Our house was built in 1933 and I thought that was bad enough!..hope Sharon had an amazing birthday too 😀👍
Great job.
Probably with your ground being so dry, it was a blessing that the water had a place to soak into and not cause flooding for your property. We are in a very dry spell right now here in the southern New Jersey in the USA, too much dry or wet cause issues no matter how you look at it. We are having trees go on fire in residential areas because it’s so dry. Also lots of brush fires and no rain in sight.
The prep work you do is boring but essential - it all leads to progress
🙏🫡👍
Really bad for Valencia luckily you both are safe.😊
❤❤❤
🌟👏👍🍀💐
There’s a pneumatic tool I came across that applies mortar extremely fast. I’ve seen a couple now but this one basically ‘spits’ out the mortar, continuously, with coverage of about 4” in diameter (range is probably adjustable). Works super fast. Not sure if you considered something like this with all the stonework.
This wasn’t the exact one but very similar. Link below, but the channel was as follows: @smartshorts6715 “Spray Plaster Machine”
What happened in Valencia is really unbelievable,we are so sorry for the people losing everything ...Hope you could collect some water in your wells , keep safe ...
glad to see you're ok and that you go on with this project... I have one question, do you know if one could use linseed oil on those stones (after repairing the wall) so as to protect them better from winds and sunlight?
The exterior wall is looking good. Only issue is there is so much more of it waiting for some love.
Hope your water catchment is filling up after all that rain.
Please forgive if you've already talked about this, but after you've done all the repair/rebuilding will you re-render the exterior of your buildings? And, relieved to hear y'all are okay!
Love watching you turn the ruin into a beautiful home. Take care of yourself , your animals and Sharon.
Think you need to do a Michelangelo with goggles on to get at that ceiling😊. Dust mask? You certainly live and breathe your work. Can see progress already❤. Have a great week.
You have made such progress this year. Lovely to see. ❤
Horrible job, but will be worth it in the end👏👏
Hi Andy and Sharon, I know Sharon goes back to the UK every few weeks to visit her family but Andy do you ever go back for visits to the UK as well? I have been a subscriber since the start of your channel and noticed you don’t seem to travel back to the UK. The finca is coming along in leaps and bounds - well done!
So glad you and Sharon are okay - sorry to hear about the tragedy
Yes, prayers for Spain. It's good you are safe there.
Here in the states thousands...not hundreds as they are reporting have died from flooding and mud slides in N. Carolina. So sad to see flooding happened in Spain as well. Prayers for all effected.
Lovely little marble mantelpiece there!!
Devastating Events🥹🙏Prayer for all the people receiving your message from Australia 🇦🇺
Hi, would it be possible to record at a bit higher resolution, toen we dan see a bit more details
Gracias😢👃🇪🇦
When are you never "cracking on" Andy? You (and Sharon) are two of the hardest working TH-cam content creators. The house is really coming along. Have you thought of cutting the ladder down a few rungs and hanging it on a rail like a Library ladder so it is hanging up and can be put flat onto the wall when not in use? You have made some beautiful black iron pieces so I'm sure a ladder rail would be easy enough.
I think I remember you saying that a similar event lead you to the finca. I’m sure this must be stimulating those traumatic memories. Glad you are ok.
So glad you and Sharon are not in the area of Spain that got a years worth of rain in one day and lost over 100 people!
It was very close to their area though....tragic event!
Looks better every video❤
Glad Sharon gets to spend time with her mother. Andy the finca looks better every video!
Thank you for letting us know you are safe. Praying for all those affected.
Yes it’s very terrible. Hope you are all okay. Can’t believe the pictures that are coming out 😮
Pleased to hear you, Sharon and the guys from Tales from the Caveside, Chris & Lillian are fine. So sad for the people actually caught up in this sad situation. We visited both the city of Valencia and the region a few years ago and the people were so warm and welcoming and we had a brilliant time. Wishing them all the best as they recover from the effects of this terrible weather event.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Sad ❤ to all those who lost their lives their family and friends and all those who have been flooded ❤ from NZ
