Treating Retinitis Pigmentosa...? A Holistic Approach | English and Arabic

Most people who receive a diagnosis of Retinitis Pigmentosa (or any of a certain family of retinal conditions) usually also receive the hopeless news that there is no treatment and that their vision will very likely continue to deteriorate over time. It's mostly not strenuous on the eyes, and a lot can be done with the aid of touch and hearing! Not to men...

    I was born with albinism so I have been legally blind all my life. I use braille, and magnifiers. At the age of 11 I started acting more shy and I found myself dealing with severe anxiety. I have been through a few mental crises, since then I am now trying my best to control this anxiety so I don't lose control. I've been using breathing techniques and meditations, I found that those help me stay in control. Since I was 11 my mom has told me all the time just to maintain a positive attitude. Sometimes it can be hard to move on in life. I have convinced myself that I will not give up. I just don't want to hurt my family mentally.

    I did not know. Do you? High blood pressure causes 1) heart disease 2) stroke yes....but blindness? Yes as well. Sad truth. Retinal detachment is the result of an episode of spike in blood pressure I had. Never in a million years would a flooded garage would result in......I have became educated since 2014. I did not know I had high blood pressure at time. As a single mum of 5, teacher in/out of the home, Scout leader extectect......busy. Eventually my body told me to stop and I had an episode. No heart attack or stroke but stopped at my eyes. I instantly saw stars and floaters which is blood in the eye. Then nothing. Fast forward now I am now blind. The detachment was progressive not instant. Annnd now, cataracts. Matured cataracts in right eye I can not even use the lens in my eye. Dead. Left hasn't detached but has cataract growing. I need to get uncomfortably close to see. I just found this channel and I already feel a breath of relief. Some one else knows . Understands. I am my support. I became WHAT I need. I need help. You have helped me so much.🎉❤ MelissaTirona Reno nv

    Im visually impaired legally blind in my whole life since birth, the most hardest part of life with this kind of impairment is yes, you need to be always act as cheerful, always to be happy, hiding your pains, and always be extra ordinary as inspiring, like you need to show that you have a big talent just to be accepted by others or just to be appreciated by others, which is sad because we are still dealing with discrimination in reality.

    SATURDAY 13.12PM. MY DAUGHTER SENT ME A VIDEO OF YOURS AND I FOUND IT VERY INTERESTING AND HELPFUL. I'M A SENIOR WHO HAS RECENTLY BECOME VISUALLY IMPAIRED AND ALSO SUFFER FROM OTHER HEALTH ISSUES. HAS A WOMAN LIVING WITH THIS , I HAVE FOUND EVERYDAY TASKS I TOOK FOR GRANTED HAVE NOW BECOME DIFFICULT. I CAN LAUGH ABOUT IT BECAUSE THE SILLY EVERYDAY TASK LIKE BRUSHING MY TEATH, I HAVE MORE TOOTHPASTE IN MY SINK THAN TRYING TO PUT IT ON MY TOOTHBRUSH I KEEP MISSING THE BRUSH HEAD. I TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH CLEAR LOOKING OBJECTS, THE AMOUNT OF BREAKAGES WITH GLASSWARE AND TRYING TO PORE JUICE INTO THEM I MISS THE GLASS AND MY SERVICE IS COVERED IN JUICE. SOME OF THE THINGS YOU HAVE SUGGESTED IN PREVIOUS VIDEOS I HAVE WATCHED. I WILL TRY TO PUT INTO PRACTICE . THIS IS MY FIRST TIME MAKING A COMMENT , SO PLEASE 🙏 IGNORE ANY SPELLING MISTAKES, I KNOW, THE TEXT IS IN CAPITALS BUT I CAN SEE IT BETTER LIKE THIS. MY BIGGIST CONCERN IS THAT FRIENDS I HAVEN'T SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME, WILL START TO TREAT ME DIFFERENTLY OR MAKE EXCUSES NOT TO SEE ME, OUNCE THEY FIND OUT ABOUT MY CONDITION. I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW AFTER WATCHING AND LUSTENING TO YOUR VIDEOS I FEEL LIKE I CAN CONNECT WITH YOU, BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND YOUR VIDEOS INSPIRATIONAL AND THOUGHT PROVOKING, AS SOMEONE THAT IS IN THERE 60S PLUS I FIND THERE IS A MATURITY TO WHAT YOU HAVE SPOKEN ABOUT AND HOW YOU CAN OFFER ADVICE AND HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS TO OUR COMMUNITY. I THANK YOU AND NO LONGER FEEL TOTALLY ALONE ❤🎉

    Hi, thanks for the video, you're probably the only one on youtube sharing their personal account with electrical stimulation therapy. How long have you been undergoing therapy? And in that time, did the RP improve, worsen, or stabilize?

    • @legallyblind4215
      @legallyblind4215 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your question! Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to answer that question, because (a) every person might respond differently to the therapy, (b) it was never guaranteed to me that anything positive will come out of the therapy, but that it "might" slow down or stop progression, (c) tracking progression in RP can be really difficult medically (it certainly has been for me), and (d) we need a huge sample to be able to answer your question, and I'm just one participant. An N of 1 is pretty much meaningless. However, more and more data is coming out about these therapies with mostly positive, hopeful results! I plan to discuss and share this data in a video soon!

  • @leveragedLion
    @leveragedLion 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @legallyblind4215
      @legallyblind4215 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, thanks Point it is actually very difficult to tell because I don't do it as regularly as I should because the electrodes are extremely expensive for me. In fact I have one pair of electrodes left and then I will have to stop for who knows how long... I was told that it would help prevent or slow down deterioration, but I was also told that it's different for each person. I don't think my vision has changed much over the past few years.

    I am happy for you that you didn't have a lot of problems in school other than the incident you referenced in your video. For me, my middle school years were HELL! Rather than working with me to make the minor modifications I needed, many of my teachers would actually send me to In School Suspension/ISS. Yep. And because my school had a policy that mandated Out Of School Suspension for students who were in ISS for more than 5 days in a given term, I was actually once suspended from school simply due to my visual impairment!!! I hated that school, and often cried out for help, but not even my parents would help

    I am also visually impaired with limited vision and I use a white cane,I have never had any help with my very low vision loss in elementary and high school,and the teachers and school board never told my mom that there was a cnib foundation help for me during my years in school until after I graduation from high school in 1984,so my education was very hard for me to do,I only got basic learning during my school years.I started getting lots of help with the cnib,learning how to use my remaining low vision,using a white cane with an o&m mobility instructor,lot of eye operations over many years with ongoing eye problems that have stablized.I have learned to use different devices to read and see better even though I am visually impaired with limited vision and adapting to my impairment and shortness disabilities in our world,I am as independent as I can be with some help when I need it.I do not work because I was never given a chance to work and I live off of a disability funds on a monthly basis which is tough on me but I get by living my life and I find ways to face my challenges etc.that make me happy.I love and enjoy watching your video
