Gamsat is twice a year?
What subjects did you select in high school and what scores were required?
Hello . Can you please share the details related to GAMSAT . How should I prepare for that and study material . I know nothing about this test
But how do we afford medical school in australia.can we do part time work ? Is there anything yo do to afford medschool
You're extremely resilient. I admire how persistent you are, you didn't give up. You kept on going for your dreams! I hope to one day get into Med School ! Sat my first GAMSAT, waiting for results, hopefully I can be strong as you to sit many more gamsats if need be!
where did you source the practice questions from?
Lol "never realised it was this small" 😅 that face you made was so pure haha made me laugh
This was such an encouraging video thank you!
Would love to see you going, mate. Need to an up-to-date vlog. thanks
Hi, what was your undergraduate degree? Did any certification for the healthcare jobs.
Ugh no 1 cares.
8 times. That’s what I call “never give up”. Well done mate!.
Just curious what was your gpa before honours
Can we have your anki decks? Haha
Hey mate! Love your content! I am a biomed student and was just wondering what honours program you took? Did you choose something specifically to expand your research experience within the realm of medicine? Or did you choose that honours program to improve your GPA? Thank you so much:)
i always think of this guy.. such inspiring resilience and patience!
Thanks for the great video. May I ask where your name heritage is from? It’s a very unique name. Thanks in advance.
Whens your next video? The anticipation is killing me ! :P
would love gamsat/med student motivational content this time of year...!
What was your atar?
Awesome vid. tht actually motivate me bt im so lte
Love the insight into med student life. How do you afford to be a full-time student in living Sydney? Do you have to work heaps or is that not possible with the amount of study?
Hi Dylan, thank you for sharing your experiences and giving us motivation to pursue medicine! My question is, I had a really low uni GPA for medical science and I'm thinking of doing Master's in Pharmacology or Bachelor's degree in Nursing to boost my GPA. Which one do you think would be more beneficial? Thank you!
Iam from india how should i get into Australian mbbs university plz tell me bro plz
U can’t
Hey man thanks for the vids, they really are inspiring. Hope to get into undergraduate med in 2 years 😀
I am 34 and I am bored of working as a pharmacist. Now I am in dilemma, shall I start preparing for GAMSAT now or it's too late🙄
34 is rlly young so its nowhere near too late to do your GAMSAT. If u don't mind me asking...why are you bored of pharmacy?
@@blueshorts8820 you hardly see any growth if you are working for someone. Moreover, 4 years of full time study plus 1 year full time internship, in total 5 years is not worth, if we compare the amount of money a pharmacist makes. Far less than all the trades🙁
@@jotdhillon4254 so what ur saying is...do one year of pharmacy then switch to med
@@blueshorts8820 if you can, better go for medicine. You won't regret it. Orelse do pharmacy and prepare for Gamsat simultaneously. So that you can do 6 years medicine in 4 years after your pharmacy degree.
@@jotdhillon4254 i def can't go directly into med so I will probably choose the second option
im currently studying a bachelor of Paramedicine, are there any extra subjects that I should pick up on the side? I was thinking potentially biology and/or chemistry, which is more important?
serious eye brow game
👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Dylan, your story is so so inspiring! Do you mind if i ask you what changed in terms of approach for section 3 when you compare your first attempt to your final which got you an interview? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
How to apply to study medical school in Sidney
This really depends on whether you are applying to an undergraduate or postgraduate course :).
I admire your resilience!!! I’m an undergrad now thinking of applying for the GAMSAT but I’m afraid of not doing well !! I didn’t do well for my A levels and this made me question of medicine was the route for me! Your video motivated me to give GAMSAT a shot THANKS !!!
My pleasure. I hope that seeing me fail 7 times at GAMSAT helps you to overcome that fear. I was a credit/distinction average student in undergrad but managed to pull my socks up and work hard when it counted There is nothing to fear from simply sitting the GAMSAT exam. The worst that happens is you don’t do well but you also learn from experience and that’s still a win. If you don’t sit the exam then the overall outcome is still the same yet you learn nothing and you will always wonder what if. You have to try if it’s something you really want to do. Best of luck :)
@@DylanAppelqvist I’m going to start prepping early:) Thank You for posting this video :) I’m sure this video served as a motivation for many aspiring GAMSAT takers like me:)I wish you all the best for your medical journey as well!!
@@amanda05112000 can you apply for graduate medicine without finishing your undergrad degree?
@@farzini9448 Nope I cannot
Can you please tell me which subjects should I choose in my 11th and 12th grade in order to get into Med-School? I'm good in cell biology, Mycology, Animal and plant physiology, Genetic engineering, I have done My BS in Microbiology in Afghanistan but our Education is too weak, I want to start from 11th grade after moving to Australia . Guide me which subjects I should choose to study in high school that can help me to get into Medical school. Waiting for your reply thankyou .
Hi Kashang, I didn’t do medical school straight from high-school so I’m not sure exactly what subjects would best suit. My best advice is to speak with the school careers advisor or look at the pre-requisites from the specific universities you wish to apply to. Best of luck
Hi, can you please tell me that -> can we get an admission in Medical school for mbbs just after the 12th grade ? If yes then how much percentage % we need to score to be eligible for medical school. waiting for you reply . Thank you
Is it possible to get into med school without ATAR? :<<<<<<
Hi there, short answer is no. You need to get an ATAR as it is part of the pre-requisites given the highly competitive nature of medical school applications.
That’s some mad dedication! And a lot of the same tips I always tell people too, well done 😊
Cheers man, dedication is one word for it :P. Appreciate the comment and glad we’re spreading the insights to the up and coming :)
Medical Science student here second year at Western Sydney University. I got into due to e doing Diploma of Pathology at TAFE, failed my anatomy unit and have to repeat.
Hey Dylan, what would you recommend if i'm struggling to get people to be a reference for me? and for some examples about i.e journey of self discovery.... who would be a ref that this? HELP!
Need to do another vlog, Dylan! The fans wanna hear from you mate.
Hey! Haha appreciate the nudge and apologies for the slow reply (i had a little break from YT). New vid inbound :)
@@DylanAppelqvist If i could re-like this video i would. I've sat gamsat 4 times so far. My score went from a 48 overall to a 56 on my final attempt. This March I'm hoping to break into that sweet 60s club.
Congratulations 👍🏻 Which post graduate courses are available in medicine or surgery field after clearing GAMSAT? Thx
Australian National University Deakin University Griffith University Macquarie University The University of Melbourne The University of Notre Dame (Fremantle) The University of Notre Dame (Sydney) The University of Queensland The University of Western Australia Wollongong University
So inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story.
My pleasure! Thanks for the comment
Hi Dylan, thank you so much for the video your amazing ! Very helpful. I live in Perth. I am in my second year Bachelor of Science(Health Sciences) and I really want to become a doctor! My question is I am thinking to change my course to Nursing, I got rejected from occupational therapy degree so I am really confused on what i should study. Or should i continue with the course. thanks
Hey Jemila, obvs without knowing your situation it’s difficult to say. My preference would be to move to nursing because you’ll get more hands on, learn great clinical skills and communication skills too. Most importantly though you’ll have a JOB! Too many degrees out there these days that don’t have great job prospects on the other end. I was so disheartened when I realised I couldn’t get a job with my undergraduate degree (apart from a research assistant gig) but I guess I thought I’d just go straight into med straight after medical science (this didn’t happen). Best of luck with whatever you decide is right for you :).
Absolute legend, sitting it for the 5th time soon 😅
Apologies for slow reply but have to give you credit where it’s due. Hope you got the result you wanted this time round and don’t have to sit it 8 times like me :P
Hi Dylan, congratulations on achieving your goal ! You showed so much resilience getting into med school, I can learn a lot from you. I’m a current RN and looking to go into medicine like you I’m tossing up between medicine and pharmacy. What made the decision easier for you ? In looking at the gamsat , how did you study for section 3? Aside from nursing I have a limited science background. Thanks :)
Hey Ian, thanks so much for your question and sorry I didn’t get to you sooner (took a bit of time away from social media). Ultimately, I wanted to be part of diagnosis and treatment/management as well as health leadership which I think is best offered through completing a medical degree. To prep for section 3 it was honestly a lot of repetition and answering as many question i could get my hands on. then I would review my answers and go to youtube to watch Kahn academy videos to better understand the theory. Best of luck
Ian, forget everything and go for a Master of Nurse Practioner!
Why did u sit gamsat not ucat? I’m a post grad but apparently medicine is a undergraduate program so I still have to do ucat.
Thanks for your comment. I applied to post graduate medical school (4 years after a bachelors degree) which uses the GAMSAT. There are also undergraduate medical schools which will require UCAT.
Hey there your video was very much so helpful As a first year uni student about to start I am about to study medical science and am wanting to pursue a career in medicine But I was wondering if I should do medical science which is a 3 year course and then while study8ng that also study for the ucat Or if I should do bachelor of nursing (RN) which is a 3 year course too where I would also have a relyable job whilst also studying ucat and getting money ?
Be a drug dealer, gets you more money and honey. No need for 4 years of medical school. Start by going to Mexico. Most Latinos do drugs instead of school.
💀
well done mate! I'm a registered nurse, I'm going to start studying for GAMSAT, I knew it's hard but not this hard, :( I don't know if I will get it, I'm not the smartest person, but certainly your story gives me strength for what's to come. :'( le't see how I go. I am very happy for you, congrats! and wish you all the best it's a beautiful career.
Hi, I also want to start studying for GAMSAT, but where do I get the material to study for it? I’ve been looking and no one has helped yet.
Appreciate the kind words Eddy and I hope you give it a go if it’s something that’s calling your name.
Hey! I am in the second last year of my science undergrad course, would it be okay for me to apply for gamsat sitting in september? Or do you have to be in your final year of undergrad to be eligible to sit in gamsat?
Hey, not sure if its too late for me to reply to this but yes you can use your score in September of this year to apply for medical school in 2023 and also 2024. If you decide to wait until March 2022 to sit then you can use this score for applying for 2023 and 2024 intake.
Hey Dylan love your vids, I’m in year 11 and im worrying if i cant get accepted into a course of medicine right after school. If I do a bachelor of science with the proper prerequisites in the course and do well in the MMI and SJT will i get accepted
There are multiple pathways to medicine even if you don’t get in straight after year 12. I didn’t start medical school until 25 and that was the average age for my cohort. That probably sounds really old but I’ve done a lot of living in the mean time. It’s impossible for me to tell if you will get accepted but keep doing research into the universities you want to apply to and look at their pre-requisites. If you don’t get the ATAR for undergrad med look at your options for post grad entry. I always recommend degrees like nursing, physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and pharmacy because I find these the most relevant to medical school and also you have a job at the end of your 3 years of uni. The job opportunities after finishing an undergraduate degree in science are slim :( (keep in mind i wasn;t that keen to work in a lab. If this is your thing then a degree in science could be for you :).
